Oh yes, I am so glad were getting an english dub of Bakuman, though does media blaster do a quality job?

Overall Media Blasters tend to do cheap-and-cheerful releases - the packaging's usually okay but they don't really do much in the way of extras or anything. I own a few series from them and I'm fine with the purchases. Their initial Twelve Kingdoms release was excellent, however.

Dubbing quality will depend on the studio they contract to do the voices.

I fucking hate Media Blasters. Hate 'em. Don't get me wrong, I but their shit and they do a good job but both Moribito and Genshiken look like shit in motion. Fucking telecining or interlacing up the ass. Of everything I have ever bought and ripped onto my PC their releases are the only ones that seriously make me thing about fiddling around with handbrake or some shit and just re-encoding them, it's seriously ugly in motion.

The amusing thing is Moribito doesn't even look like that on TV! Not on Japanese nor American! Just the DVD looks like ass. I haven't checked out the Moribito Blurays nor did I see Genshikens Japanese broadcast but I doubt it would look like the US dvds.

But, 12 Kingdoms didn't have it and it was a good release.

Not really sure what you are talking about. I have Genshiken and Moribito on DVD and they look fine to me. I do notice a degradation in quality when watching on the computer but on TV it looks fine.

That was... damn. This is why I watch anime. Forget all the moe moe tea time. Forget all the high school hijinks. To see something so unabashedly creative is crazy. Granted, its narrative is so audibly understated you really have to keep your eyes on it, but it's not, however, understated to the point of being a chore. Between the visuals, music, and dialogue, you're given just enough to try and guess the mononoke's criteria before it's fully unveiled, and if you were right when the unveiling rolls around, the payoff is tangible. This is like a cocaine-laced banana for a prediciton-monkey. I love it.

E: C had ugly art in general, but I always said it still had a pretty awesome sense of 'stye' in its storyboarding. I'm seeing where that comes from now.

Mine suck through the computer or my PS3. Media blasters is the only company's releases I have this issue with. Depending on what you watch it on your TV or DVD/bluray player may handle it better, for instance I tried a XBMC nightly on my PC and it actually handled the discs just fine, better than my PS3.

My TV literally does nothing to a movie like a lot of TVs will, it's an old CRT so it doesn't have any fancy pull down options or anything like that so maybe yours just handles it better but I still feel like, why is this the only company's discs that do it on my shit?

This was not the show to watch after watching the end of Sailormoon S1.

I did not like the anime for that at all. I actually dropped it after a few episodes which is odd, since most shows I stick with after 1, I keep. Sure didn't make me want to give the game a try.

Togainu was pretty compelling and bloody, I didnt know it was up for a us release.

This is exactly why I agree with most of that infamous Dai Soto article. The pedigree of the staff doesn't mean a thing when the actual subject material is as derivative as all shit.

Also,
Okrain sucks at making plans. Like, in a hilarious fashion. All he needed to do was wait and ambush them with the part timer. Duh.

So they like being a situation that'll print money for them? It's an enviable situation, I agree. That just means that they're happily producing the same derivative scenarios we've been getting fed for a little while now.

Yeah
I think I like the fact that they portray Okarin as being downright inept when under pressure. Then again, I'd think that seeing your best friend/girlfriend killed right in front of you with little warning would knock anyone out of sorts in the time frame they're speaking about here.

Also,
I think it's obvious at this point there's some fatalistic element at work in this world line business. A few episodes back when Okarin pointed out how they knew Feyris even though she completely changed her own history was the biggest clue, and now the end of this episode seems to follow on that.
All in all, show looks like it's going to deliver the goods so I'm eager to see next week's.

I meant that the director of Idolm@aster, Atsushi Nishigori, is a big Idolm@aster fan that uploaded fanart of the girls and blogged about the games long before this new animation project was even conceived.

So it'll have a passionate presentation to it, that's real great, but doesn't exactly deal with what I'm saying. I'm commenting on the creative merit of the subject material itself.

All I'm saying is that it isn't as if the staff would rather be working in something else.

Street Fighter IIV 23-25 (I think those are the episodes) - The show trudges towards its drawn out conclusion... man, is this show boring. For a fighting show there sure isn't much fighting, and there's far too much tedium and Ryu charging his power. A little does happen here -- Ken escapes with a Shoryuken, and now is fighting mind-controlled Ryu, Chun-Li is also mind controlled and is in a costume that looks sort of like her classic one, Fei Long and Cammy are fighting (because she still believes Balrog isn't evil and is following his orders), Guile is fighting Zangief -- but that makes it sound a lot more exciting than it is...

It's Groundhog Day & The Butterfly Effect! But seriously, I agree with other comments, Okarin is really inept in this situation. His emotions are clouding his ability to formulate a proper plan. Obviously though, there's definitely a special system to this whole world line thing and perhaps her death is inevitable. Personally I don't see why he just doesn't ask the part-time worker girl what the hell is going and what does she know. You'd think with her comments about "knowing what Kurisu will do" and kicking ass so quickly he'd stop and say, "maybe she can help."

I also just started watching Saint Seiya for the very first time in my life. I started watching The Lost Canvas on CrunchyRoll and became interested in the source material. I like how unlike other countless Shounen shows I've seen over the years, Seiya immediately starts with the tournament arc, weaving in small bits of character development.

Yeah, it seems that
certain things just don't want to change. I suppose we'll see exactly what it takes to make one change soon, though...

That or Okarin becoming a miserable bastard for the rest of the show :p

My one question for episode 13:
How did Okarin do the second leap? How did he get away? It seemed like he was more or less caught, then he was just suddenly at the lab.

Yeah I was wondering that too, maybe the lab was right there? Idk, that was a weird jump. One second the chick says Okabe has been captured and next we see him at the computer.

I've watched too much anime today, I'm at my limit. @_@.

Great character interactions, and shit slowly starting to get real, not enough Dr Pepper pimpage and Rukako is a guy.

Oh, wow. That's seriously impressive stuff, and neither K-On nor Gundam are my cup of tea. How did they put that together? Some of it I get because it's just fanart layered over existing footage but there are shots of the girls in sci-fi uniforms that look convincingly like actual anime art. Is there an episode of K-On where they end up like that they've got the footage from?

(plus one of my favourite Chiaki Ishikawa songs)

There's plenty of other important questions to ask in Steins;Gate anyway, lets go through them one by one:

What was with the pre-historic vision?

Did the SERN kidnappers set call in the bomb threat? This seems likely, but why would they do it? Are they aware of the time-travel hyjinx and that's why they've cut off this escape route?

Are they really from SERN, or is this just some cover to play into Okarin's crazy ravings? (It seems most likely that they are)

Why are SERN's thugs so low rent-looking?

What does the part time warrior know (apart from marital arts and possibly the future, judging from her earlier comments)?

Shining finger made a number of strange comments during her phone calls. One that stands out: "Mayushi was the one who died" seemingly implying that their have been other times where others have died OR that one of them needs to die. Also, in a later phone call where she said something along the lines of "Okarin, I mean Okabe." It seemed kind of an odd slip up to make. Was she talking to another Okarin? That sounds like crazy talk as well, but TIME TRAVEL.

Why does the universe hate Charlie Mayushi?

Yeah, but
only certain things. Like Mayuri's death. Why that, specifically? And how does that even work? Science, really?

Those who played the game have been assuring people that "everything will make sense, just keep watching" for a while, now. I already had some doubts, but after this week's episode... I dunno, guys! Things aren't looking good! It appears to be one of those "she's just destined to death" deals, and that sounds a lot like the rallying cry of the Contrivance Army.

And yeah, Okarin could have asked the part-timer for help, but also for some clarifications. And not just this week either: this has been bugging me for a while, now.

So risks don't always equate to a reward, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be taken. I'd prefer that this talented team take a wild gamble on something similar to Ergo Proxy, and try to do it right, rather than pour themselves into a project that, even you'd have to admit, is a pretty safe bet.

Ergo Proxy did have some good ideas. They were mostly confined to the first few episodes and Busy Doing Nothing, however.

I can't imagine what it must be like to be a female animator and work on, say, Lotte no Omocha, or Manyuu Hikenchou or whatever it's called. Do you just suck it up and get on with it, or are they choosier about what shows they'll be employed on? The first female animator I could think of is Atsuko Tanaka, who has mostly worked for Ghibli (of course), and most of the other female animators I can think of appear to work mostly on either artsy shows or shoujo.

It's probably like being a male animator who works on that kind of stuff. It sucks if you're not into it, and cool if you are?

Shouko Nakamura directed episode 2B of Panty & Stocking; Shouko Nishigaki directed, and animated all by herself, episode 11A of the same show. They were also regular animators in the Gurren-Lagann TV show and the two movies. Iizuka Haruko worked as character designer and animation director for Umi Monogatari and Okamisan, two relatively male-driven shows. Iizuka Haruko is currently working as one of the chief animation directors of Goripon's Idolmaster.

Regardless, I think the best examples of animators that work mostly on fanservicey/moe fare are the KyoAni girls. Haruhi, Lucky Star, Clannad and K-ON!(!) all have female character designers that also worked as the "chief animation director" of the shows they designed the characters for.

There is a time for ambition and there is a time for good ol fun in anime, and I'd like the latter to have talented staff who actually care about the material to put it on screen.
