With my recent Right Stuf order, I ended up using a $1 bargain bin mystery box to get the final few cents over the free shipping limit. I'm simultaneously curious and terrified of what it could be.

Anyone who's ordered one before, what kind of stuff did you get?

I probably shouldn't drag this digression away from anime past this post.

If it's meant to be a literal cartoon, where I'm supposed to laugh at the campiness of Hydra, then the tone of the film didn't really fit the inanity of the actual plan.

This entire run of comic book movies has been about making movie-going audiences accept ridiculous camp as meaningful drama by taking it seriously and surrounding it with strong presentation. Marvel Studios' greatest success is a movie about a jealous Norse god taking a wizard staff and brainwashing a scientist to build a portal so an alien army can invade. It's all absurd to some degree.

I certainly wouldn't say that Captain America's second half is an unqualified success (and its political philosophizing tends to be rather... on the nose, so I understand why you felt like the movie was talking down to you), but I figured stuff like Hydra just came with the territory. It would have been nice to have some small sense why they were so good at recruiting, but it's not vital.

Even Code Geass is a strange thing to say, R2 isn't exactly an example of good writing.

It's not, but firehawk seemed to be claiming that this movie was some uniquely terrible offender. There's only one helicarrier in R2!

Enjoy your random volume of Kurau Phantom Memory.

Chill out. It is a story. Fiction is full of fridge logic.

I'm joking around. Most people are in here.

Fate/Zero spoilers:
I have to say I didn't even thought about it that way. Did you by any chance read the light novels the show was based on ? :p Because I swear either I blacked out/ couldn't read between the lines during all the relevant scenes or they simply were not there in the anime. After that kiss in episode 3 we had a few Kiritsugu-Maiya, Kiritsugu-Irisviel and Irisviel-Maiya scenes but none of them, as far as I can remember, spelled out or even implied the bolded part of your post. Which is why I took issue with that plot point as I thought the nature Maiya-Kiritsugu relationship and Emiya's real feelings remained confusing and unexplained till the end.

Read the wiki entry on him. It's written with more info on his character from the LN as a whole. It gives more depth than the show had a chance to give.

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou 05

I actually really liked all that talk about files and love life. Pretty interesting take on it.

Ginga e Kickoff!! 07

And now here I really like all this focus on Reika and her struggles.

Line Offline Salaryman 90-114

I like to say I had enough office humor for a while.

Ping Pong 4

Fantastic episode. Looks like we have official rivals/goals for Smile and Peco. Smile has cemented himself as the main lead now with Peco being secondary at best.

Admittedly, I haven't seen the Thor films, and even not taking into account whether or not this "MCU" is separate from X-Men/Spider Man/Fantastic Four/Ghost Rider/Punisher/whatever else I'm missing, it's just idiotic within the MCU's own continuity YOU HAVE FUCKING INTERDIMENSIONAL SPACE ALIENS WHO DESTROYED NEW YORK IN A 9/11-ESQUE MOMENT and this is the petty shit that Hydra can come up with.

I'm not even asking why Iron Man can't show up when he sees Washington DC blow up because I assume he's off fighting his 16 different suits somewhere at the same time. Meanwhile Hawkeye and Thor are off taking a dump somewhere while Thor is being emo space god. I accept that, like the comic books, only the main hero can solve that particular movie's problems. But when the villains are inconsistent within the same framework of your continuity? Combine that with the fact that their villainous plan makes literally no sense. Like, literally no sense whatsoever... and well, I just felt like the film was wasting my time.

But yes, probably best to move on. I was just literally getting SAO PTSD flashbacks while I was watching Robert Redford be an idiot for the last 30 minutes of the film.

Aw yeess Eiffel Polnareff is here. Good episode, it sure is nice having actual fight animation!

Joseph's schoolgirly reaction to
pulling the bud out of Polnareff
is great. You could probably re-edit the audio of Part 3 into a hentai. :p

Jojo Starburst Solid but Juicy 5

We finally seem to have the whole crew. The episode was great, the best part was the reaction to the tentacles. I'm glad the team other than Jojo can hold their own in a fight. It'd be boring if they all got beat outside of Jojo.

Also this continues to have the best ED of the season

stardust crusader 5

some really good flame animation, makes fairy tail look like a joke.

and that ending to the fight, got naruto vs neji vibes.

might just be me but i can see the background music of the ED could mix well with prince of bel air song.

Their entire relationship consists of the girl blushing and the guy staring at her. Cake best, etc.

Articalys asked about bad romcom tropes, this is another one - the main girl is so boring that it is inexplicable why the guy would fall in love with her. Perhaps she's as blank as he is, so the anime viewer can project their own 3d waifu onto the 2d waifu for maximum waifu-ing.

Indeed, things got convulted more often than not. Especially in a few of those introspective type, was it a dream episodes.
Ergo slaughtered proxies and survived the magic bullet. Ergo is OP, I wish I could be like him.

Thanks though.
NP, it was fun discussing.

I had this in the backlog since forever and decided to give it a look:

What... the hell... is this?

I have seen two episodes and it´s the most random stuff I have found in long time... I wonder if I should drop it before it affects my mental health but I'm curious.
More people watching 2012's best show is a good thing.

Crescendo!

An excerpt from an analysis paper on Beethoven's Piano Sonata Op. 10, No. 1:

Measures 12-16 (new material) are effective in providing contrast to mm.1-8, and are transitory due to intensification in the bass voice which includes: half-step resolution over the span of two octaves (mm. 12-14), szforzandos on the weak beats (mm. 14-15), and a large fortissimo downbeat that occurs under a fermata (m. 16).

Sometimes real life ends up being like that, heh.

Natsuyuki Rendezvous 1-11 END

A nice short shojo series with a pretty interesting premise. The worst thing about this series are the fantasy segments and how the main character is trapped in that world for more than half the series. Would've liked more time to be dedicated to the ending as well. Not bad but also not great.

Maturity, bitches.
Captain America is an idea that should have been retired 50 years ago. The fact you keep him around isn't doing the US any favours when it comes to image.

So over the last few days King Records has been posting the foreign language versions of the Tonari no Seki-kun OP "Meiwaku Spectacle" -- from the just released "Tonari no Seki-kun Uta Janai!?" OST -- and I've got to say they're quite interesting. Looks like they're uploading one a day, and here's what they've put up so far:

Incidentally, the other languages on the CD are Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Russian, Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean. I wonder how many they'll put on YouTube.

Interesting. Hope they put up the Swedish one.

Well... The Moomins are actually Finnish so there's not even that.
I thought it was considered half and half due to being written in Swedish. Still they have the show. Actually when it comes to animation it's Donald Duck (Kalle Anke) that they love. Man they really love that duck.

Honestly, when I go over there I'm not on the lookout for Sweden's anime and manga consumption so maybe I shouldn't mock because it may be even better than the UKs and I'll one day have to accept the only way I'll get the YrYr and Mitsudomoe mangas in non Japanese and French is Swedish.

So the P4GA thing had me thinking about some kind of manga/anime show called new game plus where the protag gets killled in the first 10 minutes which is, like, a climactic battle (think the first episode of Hataraka Maou-sama) and wakes up in a NG+ version of his life before it starts to go weird, except now he has pre-knowledge and hella stats cos it's NG+

Not really sure where to go from there though

I liked it, but yeah those fantasy sequences were the weakest part. Was nice to see it was about adults and not teenagers again.

Swedish is an official language of Finland though.

Not only Sweden that loves Donald Duck. He's more popular than Mickey in all the Scandinavian countries.

And I don't think the manga and anime situation is that different from Norway aka. you need to go to specialist stores which sells UK and US manga and anime.

Hey, Kurau is pretty good! (I am hoping you are merely insulting the randomness and obscurity of what you get in those boxes)

If duckroll is serious about the Bones rewatch thing in the summer I would love to do that in particular as I don't think I ever finished watching it.

(hell, I'd be serious about doing ALL the Bones shows at some point, even the shitty ones. Well, maybe not all of the shitty ones.)

Whoa, this episode was chock full of consistently great animation which was especially jarring after watching the latest Ping Pong episode earlier today what with how much of a mixed bag it is production wise.

As you might have seen from Twitter, the whole episode was animated by two people!

The story of a foot fetishist and an inept paedophile.

Seriously though, Shinkai needs to stop writing movies. This was some Tomino quality stuff.

I vaguely remember something like that on my twitter feed but I didn't know it was talking about this episode.

Those ads he directed are the only consistently excellent things he's ever done.
