So true, it has been amazing recently! It's a great time to be a gamer. I'm all over Rock of Ages but I'm going to hold off as I suspect it is Steamworks. Might be a cheaper deal elsewhere in 3 weeks.ROBOKITTYZILLA said:What a glorious month for Steam! Limbo, From Dust, Bastion, Rock of Ages, Edge, Trauma, Deus Ex: HR.
My wallet is crying. I'm also looking forward to Dead Island right after Labor Day weekend when I get back from Dragon*Con.
From what I've played, offense feels like a more obstacle heavy version of Monkey Ball. Defense is just trying to screw over the other player and it seems to be completely optional. Although I'm sure the better players will do both well.ShironRedshift said:Hmm... Looked pretty interesting, chuck-full-of-humor, great game based on the videos to me until I noticed this in the description:
I pretty much have no interest in the tower-defense genre, so this is taking away a lot of my interest in it. The rest of it looks great, but unless the tower-defense components are minimal/ignoreable for the most part (which it doesn't really look to be from the screenshots), not sure if I'll get this... The wrecking stuff with a giant boulder definitely peaks my interest, but having to deal with a strategy/tower-defense component makes me reluctant... Will have to think about this one, unless it does turn out to be something that even people who aren't fans of tower defense can really enjoy.

Is there anyway to convert my amazon credit to steam gift cards/credit? Amazon doesn't sell anything that resembles a Steam "gift card"(whether digital or physical).
I am absolutely certain that they mention VATS in the tutorial chapter. Maybe you just went for mouse 1 without reading the instructions though.1-D_FTW said:Fuck me and my aversion to reading anything about the games I play.
Got about 5 hours logged into FO 3 and I was about ready to quit because it was just raping my ass hardcore.
When I woke up in the middle of the night, I had two inspired ideas: #1) I'd look and see if I could reallocate my skill points since I'd clearly messed something up and #2) I'd remembered when the game was in preview state and I saw some cool videos where the guy would target body parts with some GUI. Figured I'd go into the control options and see if that existed, or had to be earned through an upgrade. LOL
Needless to say, playing the game without using the VAT is a complete clusterfuck. It takes like 15 shots to kill something (and ammo is extremely precious). Gah. Clearly I've been playing like a moron, but come on! You make a tutorial that lasts 1 hour and you can't sprinkle in the whole - V is for combat nugget?

1-D_FTW said:I remember skipping dialogue once during the tutorial (on accident). I think it took me 70 minutes to get out. Pretty much listened and exhausted every dialog tree. Talk about bad luck if true. Still, they should have made it mandatory to get past that shooting sequence.*
*It's possible they did mention VAT and I glossed over it because its sounded like gobbledygook. Should have been mandatory for the BB sequence.
Oh well, if I liked the game enough to muddle through before, I should really start enjoying it now.

Ookami-kun said:How much is Alpha Protocol in Steam currently? Sadly it's not available in my region =/
TIPS
Search other regions of the Steam store-
adding'?cc=uk', '?cc=us', '?cc=fr' at the end of Steam's address.

It's easier to ask somebody to gift it to you here, on the Steam Gifting Thread.Gintamen said:Would it be possible using, proxy + 2nd account?

LocoMrPollock said:Legendary isn't bad. Pretty run of the mill generic FPS with some supernatural shit thrown in. Takes about 8 to 10 hours to play through it.
The PC port of GUN is based on the PS2 build and is shit. Runs in 4:3 with bad graphics and controls. The game itself is pretty great though. I am probably the only person in the world who had more fun with it than RDR.

to be fair, there's been a client that allows you to download D2D games using gamespy comrade or whatever that's called.3chopl0x said:Gamefly/D2D client incoming, time for more shitty Steam clones

Some of the language in the promotional video is kind of weird though. It makes it seem like there will be a tier of games that Gamefly members can play for free, kind of like what Gametap used to be.

I have to ask does STEAM actually have server listings for non-steamworks MP games and for the non-valve games? I know this seems quite silly, but I just don't get beyond the store and pricing, what the huge plus of Steam is. I know this is an incredible basic question, but this is also coming from a guy who never bothered setting up an icon for his avatar or adding friends. I'm just trying to figure out how I can use Steam to it's full potential now that I have a gaming rig PC. To an extent this also helps me better understand why people rage when a Game is Steamworks (Civ5) or that a game won't be on Steam (BF3).
Thanks!

Oh really? Is it hard now? I JUST GOT to Hell. Fuck me.Forkball said:Wow at that Terraria update. Why didn't I get all the molten armor before it hit?!
Baha said:No, if a game is using GFWL or gamespy or EA servers, Steam won't have access to that server data. Try using the community features and making some friends if you really want to get the most out of Steam. As for raging whether a game is steamworks or not, that comes down to purchasing/drm preference. The thing you have to understand is that Steam had time to lure people in and let them build communities around it, something the other services are scrambling to do atm.
1-D_FTW said:No. To be able to use server browsing of multi-player games, join friend's games, etc; a a game needs to support Steamworks. LIVE, UPlay, Origin, etc, will not show you games through Steam.
Why is it a big deal? Because many games do support Steamworks. And it's fantastic when they do. On the other side, it sucks when they don't because then you're stuck with an infinitely inferior system for no good reason. Steamworks is free to developers and great for the customer. The fact we were headed for a unified system that benefited everyone and now we're colliding back into the clusterfuck of 20 different sub-par systems/friends lists is why I get riled up on the issue.
Funny, I've never thought to use the in game browser for that. Heck, I never realized you could even use it for that purpose.Baha said:Ah the in-game browser, such a great tool. Especially when I have to look something up in-game w/o alt+tabbing or if I'm waiting in a lobby. This is the kind of thing I'd expect to see on some bullet point list for why I should pay for an online service and yet I have access to it for free.
Manos: The Hans of Fate said:Thanks I appreciate it, it does help explain things a bit better, but I do see groups for games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 which isnt Steamworks. Is it a game is Steamworks and nothing else or can it use multiple services? I mean Civ5 is Steamworks, but seems to use Gamespy and I could never find servers listed on Steam for it.
