Really pumped for Bastion tomorrow. That art is going to look incredible @ 1080p!

If anyone is worried about controls for PC (people without pads) check out this blog post. There's also a screen comparison from 720p to 1080p if anyone is interested.

So I finally picked Monkey Island 2 out of my backlog of shame, and I'm wondering why I waited until now to play it. Between the colorful and lively art, the accessible but engaging puzzles, and the ever present humor, I'm have a great time with it. It's just so damn pleasant, you can't play it and be in a bad mood at the same time. It's a breath of fresh air after all the murder simulators I've been playing lately.

While I wait (and hope) for LucasArts to continue to remaster the series, I'll probably check out the Tales of Monkey Island series. The 3D art is a turn off for me, but it'll be worth it if they have the same charm as the classic MI games.

If you can get a hold of a physical copy of Curse of Monkey Island you can very easily play it on modern operating systems by using ScummVM. All you need to do is extract certain files from the discs.

I loved 1-3, but I just couldn't get into the 3D Monkey Islands.

I remember getting a ways into MI4, but I stopped after a particularly awful puzzle involving a wooden leg. You can't really tell what you can interact with unless you walk near it and the option in a menu appears.

It really does kill me how much I disliked the movement in the Telltale one because I love those guys and was really looking forward to playing it.

It's frustrating enough when I can't solve a puzzle when I have everything I need to solve it, but when I can't solve it because I wasn't in the right position for a menu option to be visible it's a deal breaker for me. :(

I... just re-finished MI2 this week and started the Tales games. The 3D art is indeed pretty painful after MI2, and the controls are absolutely horrible, but the writing is pretty solid so far. The puzzles aren't... as good as classic MI, to be honest.

Where in classic MI, the puzzles were logical... a crazy kind of logic, but logic nonetheless, quite a few of the Tales puzzles are pretty random "try everything with everything" and "click absolutely EVERYWHERE else you'll miss an important item" (and so far there's been two "follow the map" mazes to pad out the game length, one per episode)
Still, I enjoyed the first 2 episodes.

I think Duke Nukem Forever is being released on the Mac this week. I wonder if that will yield some kind of steam sale or something.
If it's confirmed to be Steamplay (current owners don't have to rebuy it for Mac), it probably will get a sale.

Dat art! So glad I'm over the XBLA days and that they're actually coming to PC relatively quick after release!

I want Bastion less after having seen how hack-n-slashy it is but I am lured by the eye candy...

It kind of annoys me that unlocking games on Steam is confined to US times only. I want to play Bastion right now (it's past midnight in Denmark at the moment), but I will have to wait until 19:00 :(

I bought Bastion on XBLA and it was worth the money, but man I do feel a little burned the PC release has come out so soon. The developers never hinted at such a quick release after being out on XBLA. If I had known I would have waited. I'll pick it up again on Steam during a holiday sale.

So Bastion's res is maxed out at 1080p? That's annoying.

Hand-drawn art makes it kind of hard to scale to arbitrary resolutions and disasterous visually to upscale by a non-even multiple. I mean, I guess they could provide a soft 1920x1080 mode where if you go to 2560x1440, you get a black boxed or bordered 1920x1080 window, but beyond that I'm not sure how to solve the issue.

Isn't 1440p the next standard multiple up from 1080p though? I'm not computer literate so I don't really know about this stuff, but why wouldn't the assets be done in a higher resolution that would support higher resolution screens?

Not really sure why they picked 1920x1080 for their asset target. You're right, of course.

The game will keep you engaged with it's presentation, both in great visual and sound design. The unique RPG-esque elements they've implemented also kept me going. They manage to keep the pace fresh by introducing new mechanics at a decent rate so that you'll never find yourself doing the same thing for too long if you don't want to.

Whatever the reason, it's a better call than Machinarium's 1250x790. Still don't know if that's even a possible stock pixel resolution anywhere.

Smart of them, IMO. A good way to hurt sales of a game debuting on console is to let people know a PC version is in the wings. A sizable group will then wait to buy. Then the initial release looks like less of a success and you get less "chatter" from players online. Finally a sizable portion of that group that held off on the PC version decides to wait for deep discounts during the next sale because their Steam backlogs are already huge. Aside from goodwill I don't know what benefit telling people ahead of time would get the dev or publisher if the PC version is going to come out later.

I think it's best from a business perspective to either have your PC version ready when the console version comes out or keep quiet until after the console version has had time to sell.

would this have anything to do with why i can't login into steam period? I just got a new internet connection setup, and somehow my offline mode wouldn't work because it said steam account hadn't been validated or some nonsense. not a huge deal because i've been busy moving, but zero access to my 200+ games for the past week has been pretty annoying and now with internet finally connected no login :(

Don't get Burn Zombie Burn the TotalBiscuit video put me off. It basically runs at 10 to 25 FPS and has no crosshair.

this game was included with one of the indie packs i got last Xmas on Steam ...i think it was a horror themed pack.

anyway, since he said he was getting such a terrible framerate in that video, i decided to check it out myself with FRAPs and i was getting around 30 to 40ish during gameplay ...might have ducked into the 20s once or twice. (1080p maxed graphic options)

anyway, aside from that, the game is pretty bad. if you could play it as a twin stick shooter it might not have been so bad ...the worst part is that you aim with the same stick you move with.

so you essentially end up moving towards zombies in order to shoot them, when you really want to get away from them while shooting.

shit game.

Warhammer demo and sale incoming:

THQ have confirmed that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will be receiving a playable demo prior to it's release. The demo will go live for XBOX360 and PC on August 23rd with the PSN to follow on the 24th.

Players who have pre-ordered the digital PC version of Space Marine through Steam will receive an exclusive early access period starting on the 18th of August, running through the weekend. Steam will also be running a Warhammer 40,000 bundle sale at a very special rate during the same period.

The Space Marine demo features two very different areas of the game. The first pits the player against an Ork horde outside the gates of a munitions factory. Armed with six devastating weapons, including the iconic bolter and lethal chainsword, the player will get to experience Space Marine’s seamless mix of melee and ranged combat first hand as they take on the rampaging invaders. The second area gives players a taste of the exhilarating Jump Pack sequences where the game’s hero—Captain Titus—takes to the skies to rain death from above.

Dead Island is $34 on Green Man Gaming after the 20% off code SUNNY-SAVER-20PEC. It's a Steamworks so it activates on Steam.

Seems to be a better deal than getting the 4-pack at $37.49.

I get "The voucher code you entered is invalid." when I try that code, though I may of already used it for a previous game, I'm not sure.

If you used it already then you can use it again. Its once use per account.

Try 20PEC-FACEB-SAVER for 15% off instead, if that doesn't work then you have to wait for a new code.

Yeah that one worked. Thanks.

BZB runs extremely well on my machine. I am uploading a video of some gameplay, even with like 100 zombies on fire, there is no chug at all, even with fraps running. I will post a link once its has finished uploading and processing.

Bastion is really tempting me with a day one purchase. too bad they aren't offering any pre order discount, even though it looks awesome I am probably going to wait for the first sale.
