Nuclear Dawn looks kinda badass.

I've got Red Orchestra 2 pre-ordered but I just hedged my bet and pre-ordered this as well.
I think it looks neat, but most any FPS game that isn't CoD, Battlefield, or TF2 makes me suspect its community will die within like 2 weeks.

The RTS aspect does look interesting to me. I suspect it may end up like that old Allegiance space fight game. If you had an awesome commander, the game would be fun. "Hey guys, I bought you these new super fast missiles. Have fun!" If you had a bad commander, you'd get owned. :P

I've got Lead & Gold, Monday Night Combat, Section 8: Prejudice and Brink in my Steam library, so I know all too much about niche shooters with either small, dedicated and frighteningly hardcore communities or ghost towns. If I want to try this game, I've got to jump in at launch or never buy it, unless it freakishly beats out the odds and gains some sort of a community.

I'm just really sick of TF2 at this point and I need a new multipayer shooter. I've been playing Quake 3 Arena lately but I can't get into online matches, so it's just me and the bots. Kinda refreshing to play straight up deathmatch, but...yeah.

Oh my god.

I finally got Assassin's Creed II working with a controller, so now that I'm actually playing it, I have that huuuuuuge loading/lod/whatever problem. The textures are fading in and out just walking around the city. It's making this unplayable for me :/.

Any way to fix this?

It's just a shitty PC port. There's no way to fix it. The LOD is atrociously obvious on PC :(

I thought some people were able to get rid of it? Dammit. I really don't think I can play it. It's extremely distracting.

Yeah, it's a shame. Assassin's Creed fares much better on consoles as is.

Brotherhood is a better port, though, I hear.

Damn, I was going to make the transition to PC for Ass Creed after checking out AC1, it looked gorgeous. I got AC1 & 2 during the Steam sale and was going to get Brotherhood when it was cheaper, is AC2 really that bad? Any videos of this issue?

From a few pages back...

SalsaShark said:
The stupid part is that AC1 was much better regarding this issue, and the .ini files were highly adjustable, there was even a LOD value that you could change that almost eliminated the draw distance completely.

But behold! AssCreed 2 ini files dont have any other settings than those in the in-game menu, let alone a LOD slider. For fucks sake Ubisoft.

http://youtu.be/SZUh-s62Hzg <- look at the shadow draw-in

its beyond ridiculous

edit:

http://youtu.be/X6B21w70W1k?t=1m15s LOOK AT THIS PIECE OF CRAP

this piece of shit isnt even worth 10 dollars (wich i paid for), fuck Ubisoft in the ass, this PC port had like 6 months of difference between the console versions, what the flying fuck?

im mad. AC1 looked a million times better, holy shit.

It's not so much that it's an "issue" you can take video of; the problem is, the aggressive LOD scaling of Assassin's Creed on consoles is way, way more apparent at 1080p+ resolutions than it is on 360, where the game is rendered at 720p. I played AC2 on 360 and barely noticed the LOD, but I recently bought the game on PC and it's really impossible to ignore.

AC1 on PC had an easily tweaked .ini, but not so with AC2. :( It's a shame, because the game's assets are really quite gorgeous, but the loading is just too close and obvious on PC. Brotherhood is better with loading, both on consoles and PC.

well im playing it.. and look at my posts in the previous pages

i guess you kinda get used to it? dont know, its certainly making it less enjoyable to me. Worst part in my case are the shadows for sure, they get to their proper res when im literally 1 meter away from them, no joke.

Just wanna get it done and get Brotherhood for fucking $5 or something.

I wanna say its worse than on consoles by default, not just more noticeable. Im playing AC2 at 1360x768.

Im also thinking it has issues depending on the card as well, since the shadow stuff im talking about is more noticeable in some videos and not so much in others. I think the Nvidia 500 series gets it really bad with the shadows as i said. I even have this flickering issues where ALL the shadows are "animated" and move 2 frames even when they are completely still. In short basically EVERY distracting thing that could happen in the game, happens.

I played (and still own) ACII on 360, and the LOD issues where nowhere near this bad. Someone fucked up, because things literally load a few feet from me. Never had a problem with it on the 360.

It's the LOD for the lowest graphic settings. They neglected to enable the higher LOD's for the higher settings.

Oh shit, just saw that video. I might be remembering ACB on 360 but I could have sworn it wasn't like that in AC2 either. I can't see that being a resolution thing (ie It's lower on 360 so I didn't notice it) as that is blatantly obvious. Any word on Brotherhood being better, cause I won't even get it cheap if it has these issues.

The worst part is that in the comments everyone mentions the same shadow issues with Splinter Cell Conviction on PC :/ was kinda looking forward to playing that.

fucking ubi.

Generally speaking, there's a reason you don't buy most Ubisoft published titles for more than $5-$10.

i wanna see them try and fuck up the PC version of From Dust..

Hmm, never noticed those issues at all in SCC.

Seems like that specific shadows issue depends on many things (card, drivers, even read something about version of windows and updates :/)

are you experiencing that shadows issue that is shown in the videos? try to recreate the scene in the vid and see if you get the same results.

Oh yeah, in ACII I'm getting those same exact issues. Maybe a teeny better, but it's the same. I can't play it. Gonna skip replaying this, and just jump to Brohood, on the 360. I was hoping to pick up Revelations on PC (if it's there day 1), but I might have to wait for impressions...

Idk about that, supposedly they got Brotherhood on PC right, but who knows, gonna need someone to step in and confirm that.

ACII is a horrible port. I can't even get it to run with more than 20fps :lol

While idk about lesser rigs, i gotta say the performance is superb on mine (except for some completely random fps drops, but figures in a bad port), constant 60fps

i5 2500k stock and gtx 560ti

so that's one complain i dont have

So I used Steam Mover to move Left 4 Dead 2 from my SSD to my HDD. I got it on the HDD and then deleted it from the SSD.

When launching Steam and selected Left4Dead2, it says "Game not Available at this time". So I added the Application from the HDD version and it launched. However it views it as a "non-Steam game" so I can't do stuff within the Steam community and what not.

Is there a way to trace the "official" Left 4 Dead 2 app on the Steam tray and link it to te other folder?

When I try t join a game in Left 4 Dead 2, I get this.

Shouldn't have done that, the program creates a 'symbolic link' so it appears that the data is on your SSD when it's actually on your HDD.

Hmm... that's not saying much then. I haven't tried Assassin's Creed 2 (PC) yet, but the PS3 has an atrocious framerate... so bad that I grabbed it on the PC.

I'm kinda dreading installing it now.

FWIW, I didn't notice any graphical issues with Conviction on the PC.

PS3 version also got some hate, 360 seems to be the safer choice.

Conviction looks and runs great.

Well Mirror's Edge was alot of fun while it lasted. Kinda shocked I beat it under 5 hours though. Gorgeous game and I will play it again down the road I am sure.

A so its really not in the SSD? Its just everything as a Shortcut?

It's a bit more advanced then a shortcut but yes, it's not actually on the SSD

I manually set up my symbolic links so it might be different but the folder icons should look like this

You've just finished the tutorial, time to start the real game.

Yeah it was like that.

Is their a similar program in which I just have Steam download the game to the other hard-drive from the get-go?

I kinda like the Gymkhana junk :(

Actually, I really like the whole game, and I'm generally not a racing game fan :(

Yeah i actually enjoy it now that it took me hours to get the hang of it. Dirt 3 isn't perfect but i'm 9 hours in and just discovered multiplayer.

My beef with it is...why can't i upgrade cars or "buy" new ones dammit? All i get is rep and these cars unlock for free? Base on the 3 "stats" they give you (BHP, weight, and drivetrain) every single one of the damn buggies is the same, so the only determining factor is the amount of rep you get for completing their objective. That takes a lot of the reward and fun out of actually doing the races. At least give me something like in Need for Speed: Shift where i can buy different models of cars for different events and then can upgrade them as well.

Just started Back to the Future, and it NAILS the atmosphere/VA/music. It's very accessible too, I'm still new to point and clicks.

Yeah Telltale has done a really good job of making the genre approachable.

I really need to set Steam up to have a few games on my new SSD. Had it installed a week or so and it's great for booting up windows/applications, but I haven't seen it benefit a game yet!

Then again, I can't think of any games which take that long to load as it is.
