Man, modded Morrowind runs like ass. I think I have spent 2 hours modding this game, and individual downloads don't help at all.

yeah i modded morrowind and then went back to vanilla because it ran so badly. turning down the 'distant land' distance helped a lot, but introduced some weird graphical glitch where distant objects would appear transparent on top of things infront of them... vanilla actually looks ok to me

just beware save files from the modded version won't work with it afaik

I downloaded "Morrowind 2011" and was running like crap so I uninstalled it, and installed it again. Now I'm using this guide here.

Is this game the newest one from them or an older series?

The newest and beginner-friendliest.

Two hours? Come back when you've spent dozens of hours spread out over weeks or months. ES modding is hardcore.

I really hope these peoples' "guesses" aren't true. Already bought it for $12 on GMG. They need to be more straightforward on their shit.

If you want to be 100% sure you get it on steam, why just not buy it on steam? It's not like the $3 difference is a big deal.

I've completed Deleted Scenes (wonder how many people have...). I don't recommend paying anything for it at this point, but I did remember enjoying the later missions somewhat. The early missions are a slog and you probably won't get through them out of sheer boredom/frustration. It's also archaic and very straightforward.

I remember trying to fool myself so hard into believing that I was enjoying that crap.

Anyone know how to get Strangers Wrath running on W7?

Mine gets as far as the launcher When I click play game the launcher just disappears for a second and comes back.

Has anyone had weird resolution issues with Crysis? For some reason, if I change the resolution to anything that's not 1920x1080, I can't navigate the menus. Like the mouse is askew by a lot. I really wanted to finish the game this week, but that's putting me off of it.

I have that regardless of resolution on just random launches. Try launching again, it might go away.

It makes no difference when you're in-game though.

Okay, if you're having any problems with Stranger's Wrath, any at all, then please read this post!

Right. Bit of background information here, if you don't want to read it then skip this paragraph, it's mildly nerdy. Right. First things first - where is the problem? The problem is dwm, the Desktop Windows Manager. Why? Well, it appears that dwm enforces vsync on the windows it controls, but what happens is that if an OpenGL app tries to exceed that with its framerate, it freaks out.

This can cause all sorts of issues; crashes, black screens, random drops to 5 FPS, and more. Sound familiar?

Solution: Open your Steam folder. The easiest way to do this if you don't know how is to hold the Windows key and press R, then in the window that pops up, type: c:\program files\steam or if that doesn't work, try c:\program files (x86)\steam and that should do it.

Once you have your Steam folder open, go into steamapps, then common, then stranger's wrath, then bin. Locate stranger.exe, this might be a problem if you don't have extensions on but you should be able to find it. Right-click it and click properties.

Click the compatibility tab at the top, then check Disable Desktop Composition. Apply that, then try running the game again.

SING MY PRAISES!! (Well, not really. But I hope this works for you!) >_>

I found out this via my own experimentation and some research over on the OpenGL dev forums which confirmed all my worst suspicions.

You can give this a shot. I think I might reinstall and see if it addresses my framerate issues.

Stranger's Wrath makes it past the main menu for me but when I try to start a new game it just hangs after the first cutscene. Watch it, skip it, either way it hangs on a black screen.

Edit: I've got an old save from a previous abortive attempt at playing this game, starts me off in the intro tutorial. Game seems to be running smoothly without the fix from the Steam forum applied. I'll run fraps.

Revenge of the Edit: With V-Sync off the frame rate is wildly inconsistent, hitting peaks of over 300 fps then dipping down to below 100 fps, depending upon how much of the environment you have framed by the camera. The frame rate is erratic and kind of annoying but nowhere near the unplayable mess it was when Stranger's Wrath first launched. It doesn't dip down to single digits anymore. With V-Syn turned on the frame rate is capped at 60 fps and only dips to 55 occasionally, based off of what little of the tutorial I've played my way through. I prefer having the game capped at 60.

The camera sensitivity needs tuning, in first person the control feels fine but in third person I find the camera to be way too sensitive and it 's easy to send it spinning around. With the frame rate capped at 60fps I find the camera to be more manageable with a lowered sensitivity.

The UI is awful, it's very controller centric. You have to use the cursor keys for everything, your mouse or keyboard don't take over navigation or input in the logical places. And there are no graphic options to speak of but they at least have modern resolution support and the ability to turn v-sync on and off in the launcher, so that's a win, I guess.

Good news is, the game is finally playable, if you can get it to run.

It looks like Avadon will be $10 on Steam. That's great for us, but I'm wondering how the fans who paid $25 will handle it.
Interesting.
Last week he confirmed that Avernum: Escape from the Pit will be launching at $20, so this is probably lower in price just because of the delay.

BTW, for anyone curious about either Avadon is a fun little game but Avernum is the real deal. That re-release is going to be awesome.

Eh, the game is good, I am fine with it. I'd also really like them to have some success and $10 on Steam is the best way to achieve that.

So I'm happy and may even DD in hope that the Geneforge will make its way to Steam.
God I hope Geneforge gets a re-release, or even better a remake. One of the greatest and most under-appreciated RPGs ever.

I've never played any Oddworld game, worth picking them up?

I tried to play them on the PS3 (they are free to plus users) and found it just weird and did not felt compelled to go through it at all... but people seems to love it, so who knows?

I simply adored Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus back in the day when I played them on the PS1, they were absolutely brilliant puzzle platformers set in a fantastically unique universe. Even to this day I think the Oddworld games stand out as being really creative and unique. I don't think there has been any other game or series that has approached them. I haven't installed and played them to see how they've held up. I imagine they would have to be played windowed in their original resolution, otherwise they would look like ass.

Munch's Oddysee, apparently, was as buggy as Stranger's Wrath when it was first released in the Oddbox.

Question about GMG referals (If I'm allowed to ask) : If the referal'd one buys a game, both the referer and the referal'd get 5 cash. Does it also work the other way around?

I don't think they were that original if you had already played Another World/Flashback/Prince of Persia/Blackthorne etc.. The setting was pretty original though.

Dirt 3 would be better without the gymkhana junk and "hi broskimigo that was awsum!" unskippable gold star bullshit taking a dump on the pacing of the game, and if the rally stages were longer like in old but far superior games like CMR2

Under no circumstances should you play Dirt 2 then. They actually toned down that crap for Dirt 3, believe it or not.

Assuming you haven't played Dirt 2 already. If you did, then ignore this.

I kinda like the Gymkhana junk :(

Actually, I really like the whole game, and I'm generally not a racing game fan :(

I just meant the world itself not the gameplay, sorry, I probably could've worded that better. Oddworld Inhabitants created this fantastically ugly, dying world and populated it with such bizarre creatures and characters. They're just such imaginatively weird looking games, I think Zeno Clash is probably the closest that any game has been released since Strangers Wrath came out that's matched the Oddworld series weird for weird.

The gameplay itself, while not as unique as the setting or characters, was just well done.

I think I've talked myself into installing the entire series and playing through it.

Not sure this is the right place to ask this but I figure someone here must have experienced this. Whenever playing any source game I constantly have loading issues, always when loading chapters in L4D2 and TF2, it's taking me over a minute to load maps/levels. I have tried turning off multiple cpu rendering, turned off anti virus/firewall, defragged steam, redownloaded the games. I have no idea what is going on and wondered if anyone had any suggestions? I have a high end PC so it shouldnt be a issue to play these games, i7 2600, 8gb Ram, 560ti.

Just in case anyone else was having similar problems, I found a solution. If you have GamerOSD or SmartDoctor (both Asus utilities) then uninstall that stuff asap. L4D2 loads so much quicker, no more skipping in Portal 2, basically any source based games run as they should. Hope someone finds this useful.

Wow, it has actual art! I've been thinking of playing some of their games, but I've basically been disgusted and turned away by the character portraits.

I did, but a long time ago.

I don't remember it badgering me throughout the whole game though, and pretty sure most of it was skippable apart from some initial stuff.

The DLC pushing and 'upload it for your fans' crap and most of it being unskippable is what drove me crazy in dirt 3.

Dirt 2 at least let me play.

I tried right click > properties > General tab > Launch options in my Steam library but that only brings up a dialogue field for you to type a command into. Is there some general command you can use to force windowed mode on a given game in Steam? There's no option for it in-game. You can re-map your keyboard or gamepad and play around with the sound options, that's it. No option for windowed mode or even a full screen mode with that game playing at it's native resolution with borders. What did the Just Add Water crew even do?

I navigated to my steamapps common directory and found the executable. There doesn't seem to be a windows side option via right clicking the executable > properties > compatibility. The only .ini present in the directory just has editable variables for the keyboard and controller.

I'm going to go root around the Oddworld Steam user forum and then use my weak Google-Fu to find a solution. Abe's Exodus is playable but this game came out in 1997, it would be nice not to have it blown up and looking kinda ugly.

Edit: There's DXWnd which forces a sketchy windowed mode.

It doesn't sound too hot.

Nope, wasn't the case. About the same amount of unskippable voice cues in the beginning, the only big difference is it being visually toned down in Dirt 3.

So is it still kosher to trade DiRT 3 keys for things in this thread?

I'll trade my keys for nearly anything I don't have already on Steam. Or some meaty amount of items/hatz for TF2.

I believe the phrase used was "man, the prison economy we had going for Dirt 3 keys has really bottomed out."
Eh I had some pretty decent offers when the keys first started coming out but I didn't go for any of them, the depreciation of value of DiRT3 keys you could predict from a mile away.

Not asking for much, I don't have some arbitrary value quota in $ for what I want like it appears some people did in this thread, just want to offload these keys for something I don't already have.
