STEAM- Announcements & Updates 2011 Edition |OT2|

I'm trying to create a new Steam account using Steam itself so my wife can have her own games, but it's been stuck on the "Creating account..." screen for 30 minutes.

Should I just kill it in task manager and try doing it thru this website? When I did it directly thru Steam it didn't ask me to check if the username I wanted was available, so perhaps that's why it's stuck.

I killed it and restarted Steam, and it did create the new account.

The amount of people that got it the way you got it does kinda matter.

i guess, but its not like i have 50 dirt keys ready to trade for new releases, waiting to prey on gaffers who want dirt. i have a spare key, and i've wanted to try mirror's edge - if i can do that by trading the key i will.

Well here's hoping you don't get anything for it, since everyone trying to do that is a dick.

Is Dirt 3 really that good of a game that, despite the massive supply of free keys, there's still enough demand to argue that it's worth $50?

A dirt 3 key on gaf is not worth more than $5, considering your asking for a $20 dollar game for a key you got for free... excuse us if people call you a grinch and a dick.

They sold what, 2 million copies?
They only gave away about 5000 copies, it's peanuts compared to the market for the game.
And no, gaf did not manage to grab half of those:p

No, it was free. People like free stuff, some missed, some didn't meet the requirements. The demand comes from the entitlement the they should own it, but didn't get it for some circumstances like the ones I just listed.

Might as well buy it for 3 pounds. I had a very hard time trying to exchange Dirt 3 for a freaking beta key, let alone a full game.

Thanks. I'm really holding out hope EA will eventually put a sale on in the UK. I want the Origin version ideally. This will be triple dipping for me, so I'm hoping for the game and DLC for £10.

A better question, then, is why hasn't anyone who wants Dirt 3 gotten it yet? It's been out for three months, during which time it sold, what, 2 million copies, and was on sale twice during that time including once as a daily during the summer sale. How large is the demographic of people who want Dirt 3 but haven't bought it yet and think it perfectly reasonable to trade $20-$50 worth of cash or merchandise for a key that someone else got for free?

GAF will not buy anything from steam unless it hit's the magical 75% off marker or it's less than $10

I'm just responding to his wording which suggested they gave away so many copies that the game has no value now.
They didn't.

Maybe on gaf with the giveaways everyone who wanted one has it, but elsewhere that's not the case.
And the only thing devalueing it here is that people could get multiple keys, if it was 1 per IP it would still be worth 50 dollars on gaf.

Anyhow, I enjoyed giving my exta copies away to friends, and one to a kind soul who gave me a battlefield alpha key without asking anything in return for it. He was surprised and happy, I was happy, everyone wins.

First person to quote this post with his/her steam profile with Dirt 3 on his wishlist will get a key (only got one left... I was saving it for a friend who already got it for free like I did :P)

See? Giving free stuff away. Anyway, I don't want Dirt 3, just in case I quote this first.

It's perfectly rational, but it's still gouging. Your request is about as reasonable as calling someone a duck.

Eh don't fret, 5 bucks is more like a token price for the effort of doing the stupid contest and trading it.
I wouldn't even bother trying to sell something for 5 dollars, not worth the time spent.

(assuming it's not in bulk, before smartass comprehensive reading impaired gaf raises their finger)

So I want some of my Steam games installed to one hard-drive and some others installed to another.

What's the program to do that again? I can't find it on Google.

Why the snarky comment? Why would I guess the name to be Steam Mover being that it moves the games and not Steam itself.
No snark intended, just showing that Google did in fact have it.

And, really, what else were you searching for?

couple of thousand codes become free (for the entire world, not just gaf) because of a limited promotion, and suddenly the game must be valued at next to nothing, or given away free because otherwise it would be unfair to those who missed out, talk about entitlement.

what inky did is nice, i've done it myself a few times, but because a few people got it free, and some missed out shouldn't shave $45 off its value, or mean i have to give it away. its not like im trying to trade littlebigplanet right after the psn promotion, its dirt 3. jesus lol.

anyway, if you want dirt 3 and are down for a trade pm me
