Just crappy porting, no way to edit the ini files etc. To be fair almost every console port has that "circle of defition" around your character where shadows and objects get more detailed as you approach them, but with this game is ridiculous, holy shit. Im planting flowers as i walk.

I don't think it's fair for people to give LovingSteam grief about it until he shared it, and for others to now do the same thing he used to do without sharing. :P And with Valve already being aware of it I don't see a problem. If they want to block it they'll block it.

Also quote this post for another reason

Whatever man, I just hope you realize that in your quest to give people access to information your making it more likely for no-one to have access to it.

No problems with AssCreed II here...im i have a generic PC (Q6600 and 5770)

look harder, im finding everything from forum threads, pictures and videos showing the terrible draw distance. 99 percent sure its not my PC.

edit:

look closely at the environment there. Its like nothing ever stops gaining detail until you are literally in front of it, really distracting. Much easier to see when you are actually playing, but you can get a bit of a look at it there.

Everything from buildings to shadows to people clothes, its like everything in the world changes depending on how close i am to it.

GUESS THE ANIMUS LOADS SLOWLY DERP

yeah thats the one issue with the ac games, that and no 16:10 support. i posted about it on their forums but seems like they're busy introducing new features like hundreds of different varieties of bombs rather than make the pc version better.

still, day one

Nope. After googling it seems to be a normal issue, its all over the steam forums.

It sucks but you'll notice it less the longer you play. The worst is roof textures when you're running rooftop to rooftop.

The stupid part is that AC1 was much better regarding this issue, and the .ini files were highly adjustable, there was even a LOD value that you could change that almost eliminated the draw distance completely.

But behold! AssCreed 2 ini files dont have any other settings than those in the in-game menu, let alone a LOD slider. For fucks sake Ubisoft.

http://youtu.be/SZUh-s62Hzg <- look at the shadow draw-in

its beyond ridiculous

http://youtu.be/X6B21w70W1k?t=1m15s LOOK AT THIS PIECE OF CRAP

this piece of shit isnt even worth 10 dollars (wich i paid for), fuck Ubisoft in the ass, this PC port had like 6 months of difference between the console versions, what the flying fuck?

im mad. AC1 looked a million times better, holy shit.

Anyone have any suggestion of getting a trainer/mod to work with gta iv through steam? I've already beat the game on xbox and want to get the achievements from gfwl as quickly as possible. I do not want to use the trainer or mod online in the game, i'll earn those legit.

I'm specifically looking for a trainer or mod that will give me infinite health for gta iv, and the dlc but not get me in trouble with steam/xbox live/gfwl etc.

Any chance this exists?

ok i dont remember getting that, i remember ac2 looking good albeit a bit washed out. your gonna have to soldier through that shit. dont skip out on acb, its great

..I think you exaggerate, its a very decent port(load fast, work good with average PC, great control sopport)

EDIT: Really...check your graphic driver, with Tropico lol and this

I'll get Brotherhood when its 5 bucks

Fuck this shit, i cannot believe they got away with something like this and even SELL a PC version. I never bitch about these kinds of things but that's because its never THIS bad, im talking about things getting proper detail when im 2 feet away from them, there's this "line" that draws everything in detail as im getting close to said object/wall/etc, its quite possibly the most distracting graphical issue i can think of, and they go ahead and remove the fucking slider to fix it that AssCreed 1 had.

Cant believe this shit, seriously.

are you looking at the videos i posted? ITS THE WORST PIECE OF SHIT PORT IVE EVER SEEN.

"sure lets make the game look great and run at 60 frames per second but FUCK THE DRAW DISTANCE AND LEVEL OF DETAIL, nothing distracting about EVERYTHING in the environment constantly changing as you move"

That never happened to me, and I have worst card than you...so check you graphic driver...

It happens in every single youtube video of the game i could find, and people complain about it everywhere from steam forums to ubi forums

it is what it is, a standard pc port with nothing on top. the fov problem exists, i remember it myself, but it really didnt affect me this much. you gotta be sure its not your system, so go through the normal shit like updates

edit: think of it like this, you are in an Animus which is a computer simulating DNA memories with barely enough power to run it in a place with constant power failures.

I think this guy in youtube knows whatsup:

I think its glitch, i also noticced low lods everywhere as well as short render distance of shadows. When i tried low details setting instead of highest, there was ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE , so i think that game was not designed to look like that but High settings just broken, dont work, and Ubi careless enough to fix it! Really, every one just try detail settings at minimum and maximum! NO DIFFERENCE so that real clue that this is bug wich makes AC 2 looks uglier than AC1. Spam ubi forums !

I just checked and there is indeed no difference, Ubi just screwed up that option on the PC version, it does nothing.

Anyone know what is happening? I loaded up BF:BC2 for the first time and got logged in and all and went to play the single-player to see how it looked on my system and when I get to the difficulty selection I hit start and the game says, "Please wait" and then doesn't do anything. The little cycle dealy turns and that it. I went and took a shower while it did this and nothing had changed when I got back. I can bring up the task manager and it says it is running and can end task without getting a freeze message. It just closes down. I verified the game via Steam and all ok and my system is way higher than min specs.

Any ideas?

I think you have to sign into an EA account to play, so if you have a firewall or a program like Peerblock running, it could be blocking the attempt. It should pop up a 'Failed to connect to server' message though. That's the first thing that comes to mind any way.

Can't you play steam-games offline any more?
I am at a location with poor internet connecctions so most of the time I have no internet.

Before there hardly been any problems playing my steamgames when I'm offline but the last couple of weeks it has been impossible. Has not worked a single time. I have heard of more people who had this problem.

Off-line mode has not worked at all.

What's up with that?

Is this some kind of new Steam DRM?

I loved the Assassin's Creed games on PC, never had any graphical issues with them... great ports IMO

you sir are blind, because this issue is widespread and not on my part

to be fair, AC1 was much better and i hear that Brotherhood as well, seems to be an issue with 2

creepers have no eyes!

Salsa Shark have you tried turning the post process filter off? That's the only thing I got rid off as I didn't like how it looked and is the only thing that comes to my mind that would produce what you say. in Brotherhood I actually had it on, they seemed to fix it there.

It's definitely one of the weakest parts of Steam. A LOT of people (myself included) get this problem. It's weird because that didn't used to be the case (at least for me).

Yeah I have 2 and the pop in is terrible. Also I get some terrible performance with an i7 920 and gtx 260. Game stutters framerate is unsteady unless I drop my resolution down(which there's still pop in and junk which is ridiculous) which I've never had to do with any other game.

It blows my mind how no one in Brink uses a damn mic. People barely even type at that.
As far as I remember, mic can be used in fireteams only. And it's not close to be obvious how to create one.

The pop in is ridiculous and could easily be fixed. Didn't have stuttering though and I think I played it when I still had my old triple core and 4850 (albeit overclocked).

That's pretty typical for PC pub play for most games in my experience.

I've always found that there's at least a few people in Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 1/2. Counter-Strike Source and Day of Defeat Source on a given server that use a mic and generally it isn't too much of a problem to get a modicum of teamwork going. With Brink it's the bare minimum encouraged by the experience point reward system, generally. You might get your weapon upgraded, ammo refilled (been extremely problematic for me, bots are better than people at handing out ammo), health buffed and the occasional revive but that's been it in my 20 some odd hours of play.

Also played a bit of Hunted: The Demon Forge tonight and man am I glad I didn't buy that game for full price. Got it as part of the 40$ QuakeCon pack and all of the older titles in that bundle are looking like they're the bigger win. I've derived more enjoyment and playtime out of zDoom and Quake 3 Arena.

That's one of the problems of pub play atm with the increase of new players, but I find that a lot do listen when you address them via text. We even had some cool moves going on a pub - suppressing with the EZ-Nade, flanking and finishing the objective, quite rewarding.

What the hell is going on? I opened up steam and like 5 games started a fresh install, even though they were already installed. After some tweaking only half of New Vegas needs to be downloaded again, though I have no idea what it's actually downloading since the entire install is already on my HDD. Torchlight is not installed and just gone from my computer so I actually need to redownload that.
Brink, Fallout and some other random games all started redeem loading today. No idea why.

I verified game cache and that got the downloads down to only 1gb or so each :/

Just looked up Assassin's Creed: Revelations on GMG.. With the 20% off code, it's only $33.96. Ridiculous. I'm thinking about preordering another game from them, but I'm going to wait it out because I don't want to take the chance if I don't know if it's going to be activatable on Steam.

Also: Driver San Francisco is only $33.96 for the regular edition, and $37.36 for the deluxe.

It might be a bug? They listed:
Fixed case where games would appear or start to be re-downloading when they shouldn’t
in the changelog for the beta today.

And yes, there is an Ultra option for textures, dont know why VicViper is saying otherwise.

The option is there, but the textures aren't. You will only have "high" textures on the ultra setting. It was the same in the Tropico 3 demo.

I also get insane popin with all three Assassin's Creed games. Shadows in particular change resolution just a few feet away from the camera. It was distracting at first but I just got used to it.

That's no doubt why performance on all three games is so good; We're using console pop-in settings. Sure would have been nice if Ubi bothered to change the code for PCs.

Offline mode has had problems for ages, but I comfort myself trying to tell myself that it will hopefully work if I ever need it. I think they've done 2-3 different patches that were supposed to fix it but (apparently) didn't, so who knows if it will ever improve.

Then again some people probably have no problems, so it's up to luck or whatever.

*edit* I just did some testing.
I first had Steam online, then pulled the network cables. I could still start games (Portal, Terraria, and I tried maybe 1 or 2 others), though Portal complained about not being able to sync.

I noted that if you're offline and logout (change user), you can never log back in. As long as you have your password entered automatically then it seems to work, though.

If I remember correctly, I just also tried being online, quitting Steam, pulling the cables, and restarting Steam. I verified that I could launch launch Mirror's Edge, Portal, and Terraria. Quitting Terraria via the exit option on the main menu while offline made it crash once or twice though, so I don't know what's up with that.

Try it with turning on your computer with no connection at all.
