one thing i don't like about free weekends is how the games don't uninstall cleanly
still having remnants of brink in my system
any figured a way to keep the steam folder clean?

I think they do it that way in case you decide to buy the game, then it will probably download a few unlock files and be done, instead of having to download X GB again.

I think it's probably the case that they don't have a way to remotely run the installer at the end of the weekend. It does suck, because some of these games are several gigabytes.

I completely agree with this as long as Dead State and Project Zomboid both get a pass - they're both shaping up to be incredible.

I'd like to see an indie dev work on a ninja aRPG or (even better) an SRPG where you have an army of talking (but definitely not wise-cracking) dinosaurs (humans must not be in the game, neither should any kind of technology)

As long as the game is great, do utilize whatever you like. Though, I must agree they are overused a bit.

So here's my "Recently Played" list.

If you went back in time to early 2010 and told me I'd be able to play the above variety of games on Steam in the next year, I would have told you that you were delusional. But I'm loving it, and I hope that Steam keeps bringing in such a great variety of indie games.

Is that not somewhat indicative of the time of year though? Not to imply that's a bad thing, the summer lull is a great time to be pushing the indie stuff, but presumably when the big fall roll out starts, your recently played won't be so out of what you'd have expected a year or two ago.

I played Painkiller earlier, I don't like it, but I've only played one level.

Need to keep trying, it keeps getting better. Play it back in the day, it settle with me in that Witch level.
Yeah, I've not deleted it or anything, I plan to give it three more levels for it to grab me.

I caved. Bought the QuakeCon pack. Still had 25$ in my Steam wallet, so it only costs me 45$... or some stupid justification like that.

Let's see if I can start some Doom 3 later this week.

Forgot to comment that physics in PainKiller are a sight to behold even today. Watching corpses flying everywhere or getting nailed to a wall always impresses.

I have a Steam question (Steam noob here):
I have Steam running. I can view my library and brows the store. But everytime I run C&C4, Windows pops up a window asking for permission for Steam.exe to run.
What is weird is that every time I click yes, then it tells me it has to install Microsoft .NET framework. After the game starts booting up, the Steam window on the lower right side of the screen pops up telling me CD key as if I am booting the game for the first time.
I haven't tried any of my other Steam games to see if this is normal or not, but it certainly doesn't seem that way.
I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but I have BitDefender as my antivirus.

Is this all normal or is something going on here?

Thanks.

Keep in mind that you're supposed to be jumping constantly. It's faster than the regular movement and a lot more fun.

Indeed. Mastering the bunny hopping and mixing it with old school circle strafing makes the game a lot more fun.

This is what I'm most thankful for when I started to pay attention to Steam more. Just how many wonderful small indie games are out there. Sure I love a big fall blockbuster from time to time, and my wallet might hurt in the coming months, but the fact that I can't figure out what to play lately shows my tastes are really changing.

Have been getting bored with games with combat as well, I tried to play Civ 5, and it was addicting sure, but it felt like I was just more into the building aspect, so I probably should play Simcity 4 instead or something.

I did start The Longest Journey though, so that should keep me entertained.

WTF Fallout 3 dropped to 6.75! :(

I should of waited.

edit: nvm thats just for Fallout 3 without dlc.

Not to be picking on you, but can someone explain to me why I read "would of", "should of" or "must of" a gazillion times in the last few weeks? Is that a common error in the english language at the moment?

It's just a mistake lots of people make.

Stallion Free said:
I think it's more common in speech than in writing.
That a good point actually. There are those little inconsistencies often, for example not using an for vowel sounds that aren't vowels themselves. People almost never make that mistake when speaking, but constantly when writing.

In speech people are actually saying "would have, should have, could have" but we talk fast so we contract it to would've, should've, could've, and then people hear that enough that they start writing would of, should of, could of.

At least, that's what I've always thought happens.

The shortening definitely makes sense linguistically. Its just a bit weird to see so many interpreting this as "..of" in the last time. Never noticed it before.

That has been going on for many years. I'm not sure how you've managed to miss it.

Me neither. Anyway, thanks :)

I think it's because people could care less about being grammatically correct.

Could care less is accurate, it just doesn't mean exactly what is intended. If you really couldn't care less, I doubt you'd comment.

I feel pretty shitty now that everyone's analyzing my grammatical mistake. Sorry I didn't take the time to proofread my writing.

Well, that would make sense if I was personally offering a defense of the position. But I'm just relaying what the defense is.

Eh, don't read too far into it. I don't think Toma is a native English speaker, so little linguistic quirks in the language are interesting to him.

Yeah, I am actually studying that...sooo dont take it too personal please :)

As you should, you dirty grammar-mistake person.

Quick question I have FO3 on disc for PC non GOTY edition, if I buy the GOTY edition on steam I can just use my old save right?

Yes. You may or may not need to move your saves to a new folder. You probably won't even get a "This save uses data that's no longer available" message unless you had mods installed as well.
