I wonder where this notion keeps coming from... the time played counter has actually been quite accurate in my experience. I once had a problem where I had 6 hrs played in a game drop to 2 hours for no reason, but that was it. Also, the timer may get inaccurate if you lose steam connection while playing a game (if steam goes down for maintenance or something). And, of course, the timer doesn't count if you play offline.

But, overall, it's been accurate 98% of the time. And for a non-critical feature, that's not bad.

It's not accurate at all.

It says I've played 560 hours of Team Fortress 2. But when I see my in-game stats, and tally up my playtime with all classes, it's less than 300.

You sure have idled in spectator mode a lot. :P

Mine are pretty accurate.

Something about the fact that it randomly reduces the number of hours played the next time I log in? Or randomly only counts, for example, 2 hours of a clear 3 hour+ gaming session? I've seen this happen while playing TF2 so it's not because I lose connectivity or Steam goes down. I'm not the only one that sees this sort of stuff happening. Oh, and this was fairly high profile. It has to work 100% of the time (not including syncing over offline logins, that's understandable), else the whole thing is useless.

Steam tracks from when you first start the program.

You in-game tracker only counts actual time spent playing X character.

I dunno... all I can say is that I've only ever had that problem once, and I never had it happen again.

Exactly. Chances are it works the majority of the time. Yet it does regularly not work, and in order to know which of my playtimes are correct and which aren't, I'd have to keep track of them myself, which defeats the entire purpose of the system.

Multiple people complain about this regularly, this is hardly isolated to just a few cases.

It is of course a completely extra feature though and once I accepted it's worthless in its current form I got over it I got over it pretty quickly. Hopefully someday they'll patch it and put it in the patch notes that they fixed it, otherwise I'm not sure I'll ever notice.

Edit: Apparently I don't know what superlative means.

How is the PC version of Borderlands? I thought I read somewhere it was a real shitty PC port. Still tempted to buy at this price...

It's a bit of a lazy port, as the interface wasn't really made to work with a mouse & keyboard (no mouse wheel support when reading quest logs, for example...need to Pg up, Pg dn). Otherwise, it's perfectly fine, and well worth the asking price.

It's shitty, but playable. Well, the SP is playable, the MP is a bit rougher. Sometimes you can't connect to friends and stuff, the voice chat is completely worthless too.

Well, AA doesn't work iirc, but the rest seems solid.

If you're in the US I'm trying to get a 4 pack party going. You can get it cheaper still then. There's already 3, only need the 4th from the US.

I am having a very tough time deciding between the Shogun 2 Limited Edition for PC on Newegg or getting Borderlands. GAF! Help this undecided!
Shogun 2 is better in SP and co-op (2 players only though).

Borderlands if you have friends to play COOP with.

If not, Shogun 2 all the way. Only if you have a beefy PC though.

I wish Amazon offered Steam gift cards. I've got a load of trade-in credit on there I'd love to convert to Steam.

It's pretty ridiculous they haven't had something like this years ago. Especially with Steam Wallet coming out almost a year ago, I fully expected them to have gift cards or something right around the corner.

Sorry for the late reply, but this post is so full of shit I just can't let it slide.

G2play is an unauthorized reseller of Steam games, because Steam doesn't Authorize anybody to sell Steam games. They authorize Steamworks titles, yet have nothing to do with the selling of said titles.

G2play sells retail cdkey's ripped straight from the game box, you even get a scan of the inlay when you buy a game of them. They just buy shit up in Singapore for cheap and use the region-free set-up of Steam to their advantage.

As for selling Valve games, no shit dude. So does my local recordstore which probably could be where G2play gets their cdkeys. I've never heard about them using stollen CC's and that just seems borderline crazy, unless they use those CC's for retail games because every game you buy from them comes with a scan of the inlay with the CDkey.

The only keys from G2play which got pulled on large scale was MW2/BLOPS. And that was due to Activision cracking down after MW1 got pirated to hell on PC.

pretty much it, these key sites aren't committing mass cc fraud to sell some cheap keys, they just get the stock from the east for peanuts and sell a little below retail for profit.

an example of stolen cc selling would be the PSN account fiasco - eastern sellers were loading up PSN accounts with $150 max limit using stolen cards and selling those accounts for $20-$30 saying you have 24hrs to spend all the money
in the account before it gets locked

If anyone is curious, Super Laser Racer is completely awful.

I strongly disagree, it doesn't have much staying power after a couple of hours but Super Laser Racer is pretty fun while it last, $1.66 is a fair price imo.

Agreed. I spent a few days with it and thought it was pretty fun. I mean it's not gonna blow anyone's mind but for what it is you could do much much worse.

Shogun 2 is a steal at 15. Paid 30 and i have 45 hours so far with a small xpac coming in sept with a new campaign.

Support Creative Assembly!

I ordered it. You can auto resolve battles right? I think I remember reading that. I played the demo, though admittedly not long, and the battle portion of the game was a bit so so, from very limited time with it.

So how is Borderlands on PC? (Vs. console?)

I have it for console but only got up to level 10. Was thinking about getting this so me and a few buds could play, plus all the DLC.

Bought.

Really liked the first episode, on par with the Telltale stuff for me.

Never really liked the telltale games .. Disliked the shift to 3D.
How's the overall humor in this? The trailer makes it sound pretty funny.

Juvenile? Or at least in a good taste?
I honestly don't need to buy a game that sees sarcasm as it's selling point :<

edit: Bah, I might just skip this until some sale. I can spend the money on something more needed atm.

Yeah, it's definitely juvenile and that kind of humor is definitely the main selling point, in my opinion. A lot of sex and drinking jokes. It reminds me of something you'd see on Adult Swim. As for a point-and-click game it's pretty standard stuff.

Meh, thanks for the headsup. Deprived of a good adventure game, but will wait for a decent sale :<

Man, Steam support is such a downer. I've been trying to get them to remove Saints Row 2 from my account, since it's the censored GG version and I now have a D2D key, but no response from them after three requests.

The automated responses say they'll email me, but it hasn't happened after a few days. :(

Yea you can auto resolve all land and sea battles and play it more like civilization or fight every battle, or just drop in on the ones youd like to command personally

Good luck playing with friends on the PC version, since it uses Gamespy.

Giant Bomb did a quick look. It's basically crude UK humor. Definitely not classic TellTale.

Steam Support refunded my From Dust, even put it in my Steam Wallet like I asked. Time to buy a good game that isn't from Ubishit.

On the topic of finding people to co-op Borderlands with, just find some bros that want to play it.

I just bought the Borderlands GOTY edition on Steam's special and i only got the keys for Mad Moxi, The Zombie Island, the duke nukem first access. I thought the General Knoxx and Clap Trap dlcs were apart of the of the GOTY edition. When i started the game it said that i unlocked everything, but i don't have the CD keys for the last two.

Did this happen to anyone else?

They might be included with the base game. When I bought it I think you have to got to the games folder and run the installers for the DLC to get them to show up in game.

Thanks. One other thing though.

How the hell am i supposed to enter the keys? I went to Jacob's Cove and it locked on the loading screen. There was a pop up on the desktop behind the game that came up that wanted the serial key. Is there another way to input the key without getting stuck on the loading screen for the DLC? I didn't see anything in the options.

I mostly brought up Telltale because they're pretty much the only developer still making solid (if not always stellar), old school adventure games.

Yes, the humor in Hector is pretty crude, but the hit:miss ratio of the jokes was as good as the Telltale stuff IMO.

I also liked that it's a more polished modern adventure game: no really obscure inventory puzzles, no pixel-hunting, no mazes, optional tiered hint-system etc. That is pretty much what I demand from any modern adventure game.

Heh, I dealt with that too. Over three tries, one time the dialog appeared in front of the screen. Turned out I didn't have the key in my clipboard that time. And if you alt-tab out, the dialog goes with the game window and the game will never come back up. That was the exact moment I gave up on the PC version forever and bought a copy of the GOTY edition on the 360.
