Mario boxes have always been pretty plain and generic.

it's as if nintendo america doesn't try!

there is no way that's the final boxart, not after the amazing wii u boxarts so far. I refuse to believe that this mess has been designed after pikmin 3,w101 and dkcrtf. no, just no.
Remove the cats from the bottom, and just have peach/luigi in the costumes at the top. Not two whole sets of characters that are the same sizes, at least shrink the cats.

No, sequels usually aim to be bigger and better on all fronts. This literally started life as a pack of new Galaxy levels. It ended up being polished into a full tradition sequel, but that may not have been the original plan.

I only recall them reusing some boss fights in a secret level, what levels did they reuse? Keeping in mind that Throwback Galaxy was redone from scratch, not simply "ported" from Super Mario 64.

Edit: I think I recall the tower level being reused too, but with a different spin on it?

I didn't mean to imply that Galaxy 2 didn't start off that way, I was just saying that most sequels use some ideas left over that didn't get used in the original game. To answer your question though, They reused the Cyclone Stone from Beach Bowl Galaxy for a few stars, as well as the Mario and Luigi levels from Toy Time Galaxy. Also, Twisty Trials Galaxy was taken from Sunshine.

Im pretty sure a few devs have gone on record with saying "The ideas we couldnt use for the first game are the first things we aim to do in the second" which is what his sentence past your bolding was getting at

But he's trying to overgeneralize. There's a difference between a level pack and a proper sequel.

Not exactly what I read before, but found an Iwata Asks that describes something similar: their original plans were to reuse the original Galaxy 1 courses almost entirely. They got carried away with adding new content, though.

The "Super Mario Galaxy More" name is also embedded in the game's files.

So like I said to begin with, Galaxy 2 at least started life as an expansion pack, or an expanded edition of the original game.

Super Mario 3D Wörld, eh? Probably doesn't make a difference to you US guys, but here where ö is actually a character of the alphabet it looks pretty funny. (Yes, I know there are three dots/paws over the o, but I'm still seeing an ö there.)

I'm pretty picky about box arts, but I don't get what the problem is. Looks fine. Nothing stellar, but nothing horrible either.

Box art pretty much nails the feel of the game. Check.

Will probably look even better in a real pic. Check.

I dig it.

Seriously, Wii U boxart has been so good.

Nope I wouldnt surprised if I saw a news article claming someone was stuffing the Wii U disc inside of the 3DS forcing it to go in and work, breaking it in the process.

I wasn't insinuating that people wold get the two confused. I'm just failing too see what is so new about this game. It feels more like a sequel to 3D Land than "The new 3D Mario game", and honestly why is 3D even in the title, when the game is on the Wii U?

If that happens, there will be a lot of very happy people. Only people who don't like games want this to be mediocre. However, it does look mediocre to many, myself included.
Well good things we just dont look at games, unless..

I know you werent I wanted to be silly. I have no idea I believe Nintendo could not crank out a real 3D mario this holiday so they went with this.

Super Mario Bros. 2 is a dream sequence. The Mario Kart Toad with RED SPOTS is canon. /nitpicker

also they fixed him in the All-Stars version

Mario 2 was a dream... However, shortly after that Shyguys and other enemies from that game started appearing in the rest of the series.

So, that makes one wonder if it really WAS entirely a dream.

The renders are definitely new so if this isn't the final box art, it's pretty damn close to what it's going to look like. I haven't seen that Mario and Luigi render anywhere. With Cat Mario though they just conveniently changed his eyes.

I like the new renders and they ought to definitely appear on the cover in some capacity but I hope they make it subtle and fix up the abused exposure of the new cat power up. Admittedly you can't say that this isn't accurately portraying what the game is - four player 3D platforming.

And something resembling the Subcon fairies appear to be in some screens and footage. It seems they're really going with the theme.
