No, sequels usually aim to be bigger and better on all fronts. This literally started life as a pack of new Galaxy levels. It ended up being polished into a full tradition sequel, but that may not have been the original plan.
I only recall them reusing some boss fights in a secret level, what levels did they reuse? Keeping in mind that Throwback Galaxy was redone from scratch, not simply "ported" from Super Mario 64.
Edit: I think I recall the tower level being reused too, but with a different spin on it?
reminds me of "triple Samus"
Im pretty sure a few devs have gone on record with saying "The ideas we couldnt use for the first game are the first things we aim to do in the second" which is what his sentence past your bolding was getting at
Oh god, I fucking hated that cover. Great game, but triple Samus made no sense to me.
lol, that is so badreminds me of "triple Samus"
I like it a lot actually lol. What's with the hate.
there is no way that's the final boxart, not after the amazing wii u boxarts so far. I refuse to believe that this mess has been designed after pikmin 3,w101 and dkcrtf. no, just no.
Remove the cats from the bottom, and just have peach/luigi in the costumes at the top. Not two whole sets of characters that are the same sizes, at least shrink the cats.
Ahhnn...

Nope I wouldnt surprised if I saw a news article claming someone was stuffing the Wii U disc inside of the 3DS forcing it to go in and work, breaking it in the process. It's literally the 3D Land boxart just with an emphasis on the Cat power-up instead of the Tanooki tail...are they even trying to differentiate these two games?
Boring-looking cover for a boring-looking 3D Mario ┐(´ー`┌
I don't know what is going with Nintendo, but their recent boxarts are really lazy, generic and boring.
they need some big change.
I miss the super charming SNES/GBA 2D boxarts.

Gonna be alot of salty people when it has like a average 95 rating...

Ewwww Toad's supposed to have RED SPOTS
Nintendo apologize for this insult or kiss your sales goodbye
Well good things we just dont look at games, unless..If that happens, there will be a lot of very happy people. Only people who don't like games want this to be mediocre. However, it does look mediocre to many, myself included.
I know you werent I wanted to be silly. I have no idea I believe Nintendo could not crank out a real 3D mario this holiday so they went with this.I wasn't insinuating that people wold get the two confused. I'm just failing too see what is so new about this game. It feels more like a sequel to 3D Land than "The new 3D Mario game", and honestly why is 3D even in the title, when the game is on the Wii U?
Super Mario Bros. 2 is a dream sequence. The Mario Kart Toad with RED SPOTS is canon. /nitpickerSuper Mario Bros 2 Toad is blue. The characters have their Super Mario Bros 2 abilities.

also they fixed him in the All-Stars version

Mario 2 was a dream... However, shortly after that Shyguys and other enemies from that game started appearing in the rest of the series.
So, that makes one wonder if it really WAS entirely a dream.
