Super Smash Bros. "Special Broadcast" coming December 2015

I doubt Snake is Sakurai's call.

But surely the company that owns him is easy to work with!
i know it doesn't mean much, but i do distinctly remember konami's official twitter account retweeting a fan saying that he was voting for snake in the ballot. like i said, i know i'm getting my hopes up too high, but i can't really help it. i love MGS and he had a great moveset

Konami's official twitter account retweeted a tweet that literally said "Fuck Konami."

They don't pay a lot of attention to that thing.

Hoping to see:
- Wonder Red or Blue
- Rayman
- Bayonetta
- Ridley
- Crash Bandicoot, just to see the internet burning again ;)

Something from Rare would be nice, like Banjo-Kazooie, even if it's a Duck Hunt Duo clone, just to represent the time Nintendo and Rareware were together.

I really dont understand the thought process that Banjo & Kazooie would be Duck Hunt clones, none of Duck Hunt's moves really make sense for Banjo. Maybe I can see the clay pigeons working as eggs, but the barrel? The Gunmen? Just doesn't work.

I honestly feel like Cloud getting into the fray just busted the door wide open for who can get into Smash. So here would be my wishlist.

  • Bayonetta
  • DMC3/DMC4 Dante
  • Crono
  • Sephiroth
  • Kingdom Hearts Mickey Mouse
  • Solid Snake
  • Simon Belmont
  • Ryu Hayabusa
  • Geno
If all these happened it would end the Internet.

Why would he ever formally announce this lol.

He's been fairly direct in the past about the toll developing games take on him, and in Iwata Asks for Brawl he alluded a number of times to creating the game as if it would be the final one.

It is silly to think he'd do something like that, and it's only a hunch he would, but I can't put that possibility past him either. The insane roster for the Wii U/3DS mostly gives off vibes that it is a "grand finale" of sorts -- how they'd manage to match that, let alone top it, makes my mind sweat.

Best way to top it is to use it as a foundation for an NX Smash. Instead of starting from scratch, start from this game with its entire final roster.

Tweak movement, speed, and basic mechanics in the same way Project M did (in whatever direction the development team sees fit). Improve the graphics and character models and add new characters and stages.

This isn't a "boom this is so easy" post. It's a "this would save them time and minimize cutting characters" post. They don't need to start from scratch again, Smash 4 is a great base.

Seeing Smash Brothers as an ever evolving service-like game might be quite smart, I could dig it.

What are the chances that they have been working on bringing Cloud to Smash for quite a while, before Sony decided to fund in with the FF7 remake game, and they only had the chance to reveal it now?

Which means that Ballout character is what is being worked on since the introduction of that system

So will the December Smash Broadcast be our salvation from Smash insanity, our last ticket to the hype train?

I know that what Sakurai said on Twitter may sound like Cloud being a result of the ballot, but I doubt it. By talking about "requests", he could be talking about normal requests, fans saying that their dream is Cloud in a Smash Bros. game, as he said there were requests for Ryu.

Moreover, the character seems basically done, I don't think it's plausible they could develop it in such a short amount of time since the ballot ended. Especially the stage...look at how dynamic and frenetic it is, all the Summons...Cloud participation in Smash seems something that was in the works for a while (and they're bringing stuff like Chocobo hats as well); I say the chances of Cloud being related to the ballot are very, very small.

I'm confident that if Linkle was releaved earlier she would be a shoe-in to be announced. I voted for Krystal, but I'm expecting more 3rd party characters than anything else.

Good god, if smash finally gets a new zelda character and they waste it on a spinoff character, I will not be pleased.

Alot of people need to go play banjo kazooie.

I think some of you are right. Seems there's a good chance of a KoeiTecmo rep.
Eh... Koei Tecmo isn't really a major publisher on the scale of Bandai Namco, Sega, Capcom, or Square Enix. Its flagship franchise (Ninja Gaiden) has barely sold more than 7 million units, which is peanuts compared to the third-parties already represented in Smash Bros.

My expectations for the show is the following:
-Announcing that Smash Run is coming to the Wii U version and that the 3DS version gets a "New Classic Mode" based off how it works on the Wii U version.
-Show off Cloud and explain how his moveset works; show off the MIdgar stage and explain how the summons work
-Announce more ballence updates throughout 2016 and more classic stages from Smash 64 and Melee are coming to both versions
-Fountain of Dreams, Rainbow Ride, Poke Floats, and more coming to 3DS and Wii U versions; Fountain of Dreams releasing after presentation
-Announce that eight new characters are coming to Smash Bros from Dec. 2015-May 2016
-Cloud Strife (FFVII), Paper Mario (PM Series) and Ice Climber (using a modified moveset to work with only one character; Nana and Poe can be selected ala Robin or Villager) releasing after presentation
-Announce the poll winners; three winners and will come out throughout 2016
-Likely winners (from a link I found here): Ice Climbers, Wolf, King K. Rool, Snake, Bayonetta, or Inkling.
-Out of those characters, could see the following enter Smash: Wolf, Ice Climber, Snake (all three are vets and the could re-use movesets from Brawl) plus an extra winner (Shovel Knight or Bayonetta) and the Inkling
-Depending on who wins, three-four stages will be added to Smash U and 3DS (Wolf: Star Fox Zero Stage, IC: Summit or IC Stage from Melee, Snake: Shadow Moses Island, Shovel Knight: Great Planes or Enchantress Castle, Bayonetta: Falling Clock Tower (opening from Bayonetta 1, Inking: Inkoplis).
-Close the show by announcing that Smash 4 will come to future Nintendo consoles and that the game was a great success
-Montage of Smash Bros U/3DS plays and it closes with two shadows standing in the background, hinting at more to come after the poll winners

I hope in the Direct they openly acknowledge something like the top 10 characters just so we know what the community wanted at large. Assuming that development didn't start on ballot winners until the poll ended, maybe we will only hear what characters are in development (like Mewtwo) but won't see them released for a long time?

Agreed. I seriously hope Nintendo took his votes into consideration.

They obviously saw the support K. Rool had or we wouldn't have gotten a costume. Nintendo has had to have seen the votes for Banjo.

I definitely think there was enough votes to at least grab attention from Nintendo. I'm hoping they at least got a top 10 rank. :D

Sakurai needs to add a worthwhile online mode like communities or something. Smash tourney mode reminds me of Capcom's attempts to add modes no one wanted or asked for in SF4 that no one used outside the first week. Just give us a Smash 4 lobby where we can play nonfriends (or a community with multiple rooms where you can join and fight).. How hard of a concept is that...

Also he needs to buff Palutena..

You know who is the best Sega rep to add?

Him.

Yes, but do you know who would be a close second?

This would be my preferred second Sega rep. Forget Tails, Knuckles or whoever. Eggman in his Eggmobile would be a blast.

Imagine this as his Final Smash.

Cool idea.
-Heavy character
-Villian character
-Another SEGA rep.
-Stage: eggman land or scrap brain :D

Thoughts

1) This is the last major Smash Direct. We will likely get multiple characters released right after the direct, and told what characters to expect for Q1-Q3 2016 (I do not expect more than a few left at that point)

2) Maybe a balance patch and more modes, possible other dlc like events and colors.

If they added a new Zelda character I would want Ravio.

He would be awesome! I made up a gameplay style for him long ago, and it dealt with him getting Rupees ala coin battle to power up his specials in a way similar to the item rental mechanic in ALBW.

I think these surveys are useless for 2 reasons
1. Population can't be considered representative by any means
2. Most of them ask you to pick one character, but despite the ballot site asking people to limit themselves to one vote, I think most people voted multiple times (I didn't personally, but I know a lot of people did) which means a character who is everyone's second choice but few people's first would do horribly in a poll like this, but amazingly in the actual ballot. Unless Nintendo finds a way to use ip tracking to cut out extra votes (perhaps by limiting an ip to the first or last, or giving a little leeway in case of a shared computer and allowing two or three in.) but that then cuts out a lot of votes anyways

I know the colors that flash by on the text of the announcement doesn't mean anything, but I thought this was a neat connection to make.

I guess the more realistic expectation for future Smash content is more online modes (communities and lobbies like others mentioned already) for both versions alongside 3-5 more characters (alongside Cloud). Plus some more patches making things more balanced and making the unlocking process of custom moves easier would be nice too.

Considering we got major representation from Capcom, Sega, Bamco and now Square-Enix, I feel that we will close off third party character with one from Konami or Ubisoft. The former already has a character that can be re-used from Brawl (Snake) while the latter while not friendly with Nintendo now, helped them out a lot over the decades (the GC era got many multiplatform games from Ubi, the Wii got a lot of support from them and they were early supporters of the Wii U before they cut their ties 2013-2014).

I could see Rayman really come to Smash (representing Western developers supporting Nintendo) but I could also see Shovel Knight doing that too (as it could representing Nintendo having strong connection to Indie developers.

Honestly thinking about it.....I could see the following join Smash with the final wave of DLC.
-Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII): Already announced but likely releasing in December after the Smash Event. Looks awesome and comes with the Midgar stage on Wii U (not sure if its coming to the 3DS version though, at least with the summon gimmick the stage has)

-Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid): Look, Nintendo got Cloud in Smash (basically a PlayStation characters through and through despite it being a Square character), so they can get their other Sony guest star in Smash again too. If Nintendo is friendly with Konami (which they seem to be, considering all the GBA Castlevanna games coming to the Wii U E-Shop and being friendly in the past), then this is possible. Little work too, as they could re-use Snake's moveset and stage from Brawl as reference or port that over to Smash U/3DS. After Cloud's announcement, I'm almost expecting to hear about Snake next month :).

-Inking Girl & Boy (Splatoon): Big Nintendo surprise hit of the year and a prime Nintendo new-comer to Smash :D! Really creative moveset and I could easily see a really great Inkopolis level join Smash. Hoping Iinking(s) come to Smash in the future :).

-King K. Rool (DKC) or Paper Mario (PM Series): I could see either join Smash but not both. This is likely the Nintendo Poll Winner, so they only have room for three (1 Nintendo, 1 Third Party, 1 Indie Character) winners. Both have a lot of moveset potential and each will add to the respective franchises representation (a playable rep for the Mario RPG titles or finally adding in a DKC villain into the Smash series). Could see them bringing a new stage (TTYD Battle Arena for Paper Mario or King K. Rool's ship from DKC2).

-Wolf (Star Fox) & Ice Climber: Both are bound to be coming to Smash in the future; both are similar to Lucas, Mewtwo and Roy (already having a base moveset to copy over from older Smash titles) and would be great to see them back :). Ice Climber can easily work on both versions; only have one of them playable but have their attacks have double impact (Ex: Down B has him/her using both hands for the ice blast, Up B has him/her throwing an pick-axe in the air and gabbling to it, Side B has him/her using two hammers for a spin attack, ect). Could see them launching with Cloud this December.

-Shantae or Shovel Knight: One of them representing the poll winners (Indie side). Both have a lot to pull with Movesets and both have great stages to use (Shantae: Scuttle Town with Risky shooting cannon balls into the town and tinker bats roaming around/Shovel Knight: Great Planes, Plague Knight's Lab or The Enchantress's Castle).

-Rayman: He could represent the third party poll winner (if Snake doesn't represent that) and his moveset is filled with potential across Rayman 1 (throwing fist, hovering in the air), Rayman 2 (Energy Balls, Stronger Hovering), Rayman 3 (Costume abilties, Kick attacks) and Rayman Origins/Legends (Dash Punch, Ground Pound, ect). The stage for him is tricky.....as you could have one from Rayman 1 (Glade of Dreams), Rayman 3 (Land of the Livid Dead), or Rayman Legends (any location).

For Glory has a lot to be desired. No ranking system means getting paired with any random player regardless of skill, no matchmaking means getting paired with players across the world that means games lag really badly, still only having the option of playing Final Destination leaves no variety. Also still no custom moves or Mii Fighters allowed, would love an option for standard For Glory and Custom For Glory

Plus tourney mode still sucks badly (Short matches and generally quite boring) and the only thing I'd say for For Fun is giving the choice to vote for a stage.

the way For Glory works really kept me away from the game. being stuck on FD is just brutally boring to me
