Test Drive Unlimited 2 |OT|

This game really is the most enormous piece of buggy crap. After thinking I was getting off scot-free, the save file corruption bug got me. A million bucks, a bunch of cars, 18/20 pictures, all the wrecks, tons of races, etc all down the toilet.

This game was plainly, obviously, 100% clearly not ready for release. If you had more than three game testers in SPAIN doing QA, you'd know that.

Thanks Atari. You suck.

After telling myself I wouldn't do the 100% discovery on Ibiza, I started doing it anyway. Section 1 went pretty much OK - traversed all the roads and got credit for it.

Section 2 though, I'm stuck at 99% and I can't find whatever tiny patch of road I'm missing. I've searched the map completely and cannot find it. At least in TDU1, for the "drive on all roads" achievement, they let you off if you missed a few small driveways and whatnot, but in 2, I'm stuck.

Anyone care to share their "last piece of the road" story so that I can maybe find the small piece I'm missing in Ibiza 2?

I had the same issue for a while. Navigate to the area of the map near the salt mines at he bottom right. Just below the airport there is a small hill with a windmill on it. The road leading there looks like a driveway but it is a piece of road that is discoverable. Hope this is the section you are looking for. Good luck.

Crash is temporary. Annoying, but temporary. The most you'll lose is that sesson's progress. Save corruption takes out EVERYTHING - days or weeks of work.

I'd take a TDU2 that crashes a 100 times before the one we have that randomly corrupts save data - when the "corruption" is probably mis-named files due to sloppy programming. The PC version "corruption" is fixed by renaming a temp file.

Thanks again, Atari. You suck.

There's a tiny 200m offshoot towards a tower on the only road south / southwest from Eivissa towards the salt flats that's really easy to miss.

The only other thing I can advise is check junctions. I had a couple of gaps where roads met that I obviously hadn't crossed the last 10m or so to the intersection.

So I decided, maybe I do actually want to start all over again just to use a different character and sort of re-experience some of the progression of the game through the races, using some different cars in the process. It's completely absurd that I have to make a new profile to do this, but whatever.

Oh, what's this?

ilIm5s.jpg

I don't understand why you let me put it on my computer without telling me this to begin with, and I thought that was the point of putting in my atari account at that same time, but okay whatever, I'll just get rid of it.

What the fuck.

And saying start new game on the selection menu results in endless load screens.

So should I pick this up for PS3? I have a G25 and am seriously considering it, but the bad reviews and problems have been putting me off.

Still the best free roam game out there. Cruising Ibiza and Hawaii are second to none. The s/p races will also keep you busy though if you're more than a racing casual they'll be somewhat easy except for the timed events. God they even dumbed down the race around the islands. No challenge at all. So sad. A AAA game is in there somewhere.

Yeah, I still open the launcher to see if it installs a patch... nope.

So my nephew came over today, and I thought I would show him TDU2 as he was interested on checking it out.

I loaded up the game, selected the HDD selection and then a new game began. I was like wtf??

So I tried it again, though this time offline. Same thing.

I played it last night and it loaded fine. Now itI seems I have lost @30 hours of game play.

fffuuu!!!

I am going to be really pissed if the patch doesn't fix it. Fuck you Eden for releasing a buggy p.o.s (how can a bug like that get missed during the beta testing?).

So the patch is out...and my save file is still gone.

Fuck I am pissed. I dont know if the save was corrupted or what as it came up with no message. The game just decided to start from scratch.

What is worse is that I think the moment a new game starts, your old save is overwritten. Fuck I hate games that only give you 1 save file. All games should be allocated at least 2-3 slots, just so shit like this doesnt happen.

Imagine if Fallout only had one save slot.

I'm now extremely glad I didn't buy this game after all. The game would have been in much better hands with the likes of Criterion or Black Rock.

I had an urge to pick up an arcade racer yesterday and opted for NFS HP over this due to the bug issues being posted in this thread. I was leaning toward Test Drive, but just didn't want to bother with the chance of losing game saves and whatnot.

It's been more than a week since I've played TDU2, but so far I've been able to avoid having my save be corrupted. It sounded like a patch was coming out soon to fix the save issue and a bunch of other issues, plus they were giving out free DLC, but I haven't heard anything about it in 2 weeks. That's probably not a good sign.

Finally!

"Loyal TDU2 Fans,

Thank you for making TDU2 a huge success worldwide. We’ve reached the top of the sales charts in many territories and continue to work diligently on making TDU2 the best persistent-world racing game on console and PC.

The first of our game optimizations for console will be live tonight on Xbox 360 at 1am PT (9am GMT) and PS3 is soon to follow. This update will resolve a corruption issue that some players experienced with their saved game files. In some cases corrupted files will be automatically repaired.

Available on Monday, 3/14 at 1am PT (9am GMT) will be a patch that should address many of the outstanding concerns that some of the community experienced on PS3 and Xbox 360."

Nice! I guess I spoke too soon.

With the console patch coming out on Monday, we can talk about setting up a club. I've got the 360 version of the game. Should we make a list of gaffers still playing this?

I wouldn't get your hopes up. They apparently fixed clubs on PC, and I can see plenty of active clubs, but can't set up a match with anyone. Whatever system they're using (it's so vague I can't even tell... maybe something like SF4?) is completely broken. Goodbye to over half of the intended experience.

I can understand unexpected problems, so as I said, I am giving them a month. We are halfway through that month now, and if they don't get the game FUNCTIONING then I will not support them. There are many ambitious things about this title, and spontaneous challenges is one of them and those work, but setting up matches between members of clubs is not revolutionary at all. It has been happening on PC across the entire spectrum of development budget and manpower for over 15 years now. There is absolutely no excuse for it being completely broken.

I got into the HYPE and bought the First Game for Xbox360 Brand New Sealed on eBay for 40.
I wish I could stop making stupid decisions.

But TDU1 is awesome.

I've been holding off on TDU2 after hearing all this stuff, but if the new patch actually addresses everything, I'll pick it up next week.

I shudder to think how awesome it would've been in the hands of someone like Rockstar San Diego, who did Midnight Club LA.

Interesting side note: They also did the Midtown Madness series of games!

I've slowed my playing out of concern about getting a corrupt save, but I'd join a club when/if they get them working, now that the save patch is out.

I just picked Midnight Club LA up last night, and for me it trumps TDU2 is just about every way. MC:LA has more of a sense of place, more rewarding arcade driving (subjectively of course) and a better day/night/weather cycle.

And its got the best damn cop pursuit logic out there. I'm loving it.

But just like TDU2 I wish there was a way to run over my cellphone.

I liked Midnight Club LA much better after turning off the character voices, as they insist on saying the same thing every ten seconds or when you pass them in a race.

I still found it to be one hell of a grind, however, as you earn so little money and the races start off so difficult that it can be frustrating.

Wouldn't mind seeing a combination of the two games. Though to be honest what I'd really love would be GT5's cars and physics with the laid-back open world structure of TDU.

Yeah, I'm still on my first car as the money doesn't flow when you're free roaming around the city for kicks. ;p

But holy crap can you customize the holy hell out of your car.

Know what sucks most about it? It's not on PC. Playing it at 60fps in 1080p would be fucking awesome. I'm actually pretty upset about that, as everything else is perfect. Looks amazing considering it's never really been that massive in the community.

Finally got into playing this one over the weekend. I'm going against the grain though and saying I've really enjoyed it so far! Handling took a little while to get used to, but I've come to TDU2 off the back of NFS:HP (and compared to that, TDU2 feels like it's got GT5-quality handling), so it's been a nice easy transition.

I finished all the licenses, all the A class events and the B class events yesterday. Been pretty easy so far, but it's great - at least there's no bloody rubber-band AI!

Pleasantly surprised.

I got suckered and bought the Casino DLC, that was a tremendous waste of money, but other than that, I've had a good run so far.

It seemed to me that the patch went live last friday actually.

I noticed that the yaw-cam seemed a bit less, butt that could just be my nice mclaren and its low body roll.

i let my gold expire this month, but was really happy to see that you can still interact and even quick-race with other players???!!

COOL!!

I'll join the NeoGAF club on 360 if it's up. I want achievos too. I just completed every race/tour on single player and need to work on my social status.

btw, saw no patch today

I'd still be in for a 360 club. Haven't played much the last few weeks while waiting on the patch. Have the A licenses left to do.

GT is the same as my GAF handle.

I tried to add people to the club last night. But the friends list ingame wasn't working. No one was popping up. Not sure if you have to be a friend and online at the same time, or if the server was just wonky. If you want to search for the club it's called "Gaf Rollers". I'll send you guys FRs in the meantime.
