The Darkness: The Official Thread

GSAU: The game is obviously quite violent. Were any modifications required to meet the Australian restricted MA15+ rating and pass classification?

JM: Australia has been supercool. As far as I know the Australian version is completely intact. Much unlike the German version, which is severely modified.

God, the germans are such nazis when it comes to videogames.

Any word on the demo?

A bulletin recently posted by the official MySpace page of...The Darkness, has clarified several details about the new release. The juiciest of these tidbits is the revelation that a demo is slated to be released before the game hits store shelves. The bulletin notes that the demo won't be finished in time to make any magazine covers, so it will download only. Currently, the demo is scheduled to arrive approximately 3 weeks before the title debuts on June 25th, so it should be on Marketplace in the first week of June or so.

I'd wager the demo should be popping up Live next week probably.

We just received a tip that The Darkness demo has hit an unforeseen road block and may not make it to the Marketplace before the game ships later this month. Being a subscriber to The Darkness' MySpace group, Ben Furneaux says that he received a subscribers only bulletin message from Lord Sonatine stating that the demo has been delayed, but will release as soon as possible. Again, we aren't cool enough to be subscribers to The Darkness' official MySpace page, so we didn't get the message to confirm its contents. But you can take Ben's word for it and check out the bulletin message he received, posted after the break. The Darkness can be stopped ... by Microsoft's certification team.

"Delayed. Will be released as soon as possible."

I don't know how that translated until after the game is released. It will probably be released towards the end of the week or early next week.

It was probably slated for today.

Now I don't have to listen to all you guys playing the demo while my system is broken. Sucks though.

Great trailer, my favorite so far. I am worried it spoiled too much tho :/. A lot of cool stuff in there.

Looking forward to a HD version of that trailer.

Holy shit that's violent.

I preordered a copy of this yesterday. Paid in full. In Starbreeze I trust.

Game purchase confirmed.

Good god.

Now the choice on what system to buy it on. For some reason I'm wanting to get this on PS3(probably because I'm desperate to buy something for the f*cking system), but the 360 version has rumble, achievements...you know, the standard stuff.

Can't believe I've been sleepin' on this game. It is mine.

This is the most violent game i've seen yet.

Until next month, when Manhunt 2 comes out on Wii.

I took some screencaps from the trailer. Enjoy!

I have a feeling this won't sell too well, unless word of mouth carries it.

Why does it seem like the most badass games get hardly any advertisement?

EDIT: JB1981, for whatever reason you aren't able to receive PMs so I'll ask here. What system are you getting the game for?

Really. Pretty much nothing outside of the usual gamer haunts.

If they can manage to get a demo up on XBL, and it's good, this game will sell. Starbreeze's heritage + comic license + good demo = $$$

Yeah but even then not everybody who owns a 360 has Live. Seriously based on the movies I've seen this appears as if it could be the 3rd best shooter of the year(behind Halo 3 and Bioshock).

I'll do my part to push this game as I'm a ASM @ EB. This game looks way too good to pass off if you're a FPS fan(and most of my customer base at my store are Xbox/360 gamers).

Looks amazing. How long will the game be though? And no multi right? If the game is decent lenght, I will probably get it for the PS3.

There is multiplayer. The voice acting is sure to be pretty good as well. As someone said earlier, Patton as Darkness, Kirk Acevedo as Jackie, Lauren Ambrose (the daughter from Six Feet Under) as Jenny one of the VA's from Psychonauts (Razputin) as a darkling.

so is it just a joke or is the story really him taking out his "Sexual frustration" on people

It's a joke but what they said is true. He dies at conception as the darkness is passed to the unborn boy (and it will be a boy...). Also, I don't know if I've plugged it yet but the official site IS awesome and one of the better flash sites I've seen..ever. http://www.2kgames.com/thedarkness

Hint: shoot out the streetlights.

Hahaha apparently shooting it out with a police helicopter is one of the least exciting things to happen during the game, because they put it in the credits sequence. Damn this game is going to own.

As long as it is at least over 4 hours long. How long was Riddick?

I don't remember off hand. Definitely don't remember it being short. I mean when I was done I felt like I'd gotten my money's worth. And obviously that just ignores the fact that irregardless of its length, Riddick was the best FPS game of last generation, gut stomping contenders like Half Life 2 and Halo.
