The Darkness: The Official Thread

My guess is that it's censorship issues. According to previews it's the most violent game in years (some say ever), and that's saying alot.

Take-Two with a controversial violent game? No way! :lol

I bet this one wasn't even on Jack Thompson's radar . . . he's probably too busy whining about Manhunt 2 and GTA IV.

Just saw the commercial for the game while watching the baseball game on ESPN.

I was surprised. They showed quite a few scenes where you could tell the dude was about to get lit up(they had that part where the darkling drilled the guy on the ground with a saw or w/e..of course they didn't show it all the way).

If I didn't know about the game it would of def. caught my eye.

I just saw a TV Spot that had some song that went like "This is evolution..."

What I heard was really interesting. Anybody know who sings it?

Man this game is going to kick a lot of ass. The more pics and vids, I see, the more I want it. I'm picking up the PS3 version. Not to knock off the 360, but I just don't want it freezing on me like Graw 2 :(

I think I will be doing the same thing, barring any major downgrades.

OHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOO!!!! looks like the ps3 version is delayed 20th july dont know if this is just for europe or not but damn you damn you will have to get the 360 version now they will have lost alot of ps3 version sales if this is true.

Yep, it's delayed. Presumably due to Vegas being out at the same time, then Harry Potter, then Sigma.

Here's the cover of the first issue of The Darkness.

How are they losing sales by consumers purchasing the 360 version?

Nooo! Don't let this be true, I was planning on picking this up next Monday.

game.net has posted the delay on their site.

Exactly 1 month between 360 and PS3 versions.

Never mind, I'm all out of money this month anyway.

Seems like it's still on track for the 25th of June in North America. Europe must be screwed once again. europebailout.gif

So by people opting for the 360 version they arnt losing sales of the ps3 version???.

I doubt 2K Games or Starbreeze care which one sells the most, as long as they are swimming in money.

Well it's not bad for the company. They care about the MONEY, they don't care if it comes from the Xbox360 sales or PS3's. It's bad for the PS3 user though. If the sales on the PS3 will be bad = less incentive for Starbreeze to port their next game to Sony's machine.

Any idea how many hours the single-player is gonna be? And also any good unlockable stuff or new game + type thing incentive to play thru it again? ****ing next-gen is killing me with the price

But dark10x cares!

I second the question asked in above posts - how long is the game?

I'd imagine PS3 fans in general care. Why is that so hard for you to grasp?

The one that's out first... :)

No idea why it's delayed over here, but stand by for a US delay too...

If they delay in the US, they just lost my sale. My 360 is pretty much dead so the only choice is PS3 version. Moving to July would cause me to NOT buy it considering the July releases I want already. Next week or bust for this game. =/

Sorry, didn't want to make that sound like it was going to be delayed, just that it might. If it makes it out next week in the US I'll import it.

There's too much out in July to make it worth the wait.

I know you said might. =P That's why I said "if" =)

Wow. It's like console trench warfare, but the strip of land being fought over is a wide swath of fermented shit.

But isn't that a self fulling prophecy? I mean you can't purposely kill the sales on one system and then say, "oh well next time lets make The Darkness 2 360 exclusive because it sold better."

YAY!!!! How do you know this?
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/789/789233p1.html
While we went through the opening chase sequence through one of New York's tunnels with Mikey and Nino again (culminating in Nino's beheading and Mikey's crippling via accident shrapnel), we were told that managing to shoot every construction worker in those tunnels would result in an accomplishment for the PS3. That's significant because, apart from Lair, this is one of the very first titles for the PS3 that's actively acknowledged an accomplishment system (akin to the 360's achievement system) from the start of development. How that might tie into Home's trophy room system is anyone's guess, but we were told that many of the other items that you could unlock would include full Top Cow comic books, cheats and behind the scenes movies with the developers of the game.

If a game being delayed for 1 month makes you not buy the game anymore, then you weren't really interested in the game in the 1st place.

I remember hearing on On the Spot, I believe, the game will be around 14 hours to complete on a straight run through. Apparently, there are other side things you can do to extend the game that'll unlock extras.

Yeah, because that next month has NO games worth purchasing either right?

Doesn't work that way.

What games are you going to buy instead? And couldnt you just add it to your backlog, you had money for it in the first place right?

Ninja Gaiden Sigma, NCAA Football, and Persona 3. I only budget myself to buy 2-3 games a month and these are it. There won't be any time for The Darkness to fit in here if it moves to July.

Then again, I may just go through and join Gamefly and cut back to one game a month to buy to save some money. The more I think about that idea, the more I like it. Puts more money back in my pocket to use for my new HT Speaker fund. :D

It's a weird aspect of the market dynamic, but I've seen it time and again, that when a game comes out even just a month later one platform after another, it goes largely ignored on that 'late comer' platform, even by people who *only* own that console and have no other means of playing it. It's as if the excitement over the game has expired, everyone has moved on, etc.

Now, it's not always the case, but it seems to be the case really often. IMO, it's never a good idea to stagger the releases like that if you want to maximize sales.
