The Evil Within 2, is going to be a Critical Hit, Commercial Bomb.

I feel like doom switch has gotten more exposure and marketing then this game, and im pretty sure the marketing blitz for doom hasent even started yet

It will do just as good if not better than The Evil Within. I just got done with the first one last month and am playing through The Assignment now. I paid 10 bucks for it. I will be getting TEW2 on day one after seeing E3 and recent YouTube vids.

I didn't have many issues with the first one's gameplay, though I must admit i never finished it. I like crossbows with many ammo types no matter which game they're in.

All I know is that Mikami didnt want to make just another survival horror game yet he had to under contract with Bethesda, so i cant help but really think what his mindset was for this game.

Elder Scrolls Online already has loot boxes.

As to what what the thread is about: I think reviews will be about the same and it will sell worse.

I wasn’t fond of the original, which is why I never finished it. Hopefully this is better, because I am always up for a good horror game.

I loved the evil within 1, but i won't buy this one day one. If its like the first, thats great, but I got 1 for 9 bucks, all dlc included. So it's going to be a very tough sale for me.

I agree with OP

When will Bethesda realize that their policy is harming them commercially?

They have some of the gen’s best games but none of it receives any proper coverage

Hope TEW2 sells well, Tango did their part perfectly (according to the impressions) and deserves another chance.

A bunch of streamers on twitch got it early and are already streaming it today

This. They're foregoing the traditional reviews and working with influencers for maximum exposure.

Good on Bethesda for The Good Within campaign though. That's something I look forward to taking part in once I buy my copy.

First of all, it seems like Bethesda is actually changing things up for this game. Some outlets got the game yesterday so that is a good sign. Embargo ends the 12th before release on the 13th.

I hope it does well too but what really seems to be the issue is the anemic marketing compared to the first one. For games like this a long time to hype people up goes a long way. RE7 suffered a similar fate but because the marketing did not show what type of game it really was. Most ppl thought it was an outlast clone. It is not looking good for TEW2 commercially but it seems like Bethesda rather let Wolfenstein 2 get the spotlight (which makes sense to them).

Just my thoughts on the matter

Yea, I wanted Tango to do a whole new game after TEW1, I would hate for them to be stuck making TEW sequels and spinoffs.

As a creative your mind has to be in it. TEW2 looks much better then the first.

I'm ready for it.

I really liked the idea of TEW1, but it's relative poor performance across all platforms really stuck out as a sore point for me. I even tried to download the Steam demo last night and it still seems like it takes a LOT to get 60fps in that game. Couldn't even get a locked 60fps at 900p.

I had bought the game on PS4 the day it came out in 2014 and just couldn't hang with the performance issues at all. I had hoped boost mode via the PS4 Pro would at least iron out a smooth 30fps but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I've kind of given up trying to experience TEW1 all the way through because of the technical issues. I can get a sound 30fps on PC but... on PC, I have a strong mental block from accepting 30fps on that platform. I know that's probably silly as hell to some people, especially since I've well versed in console territory and play 30fps there all the time, but nevertheless, that unreasonable quirk is very real in my stupid little mind.

ALL THAT SAID, I've tried my hardest to try and get a sense of if TEW2's storyline will draw heavily from the first game. If it's relatively separate, or maybe more loosely connected ala RE1 -> RE2, I'd love to give it a go... Assuming the optimization and actual quality is reported back to be good. I'd love to play another action-survival-horror from Mikami, and it's a genre that feels a bit absent this generation for sure.

I do agree with OP, though. I can't recall if TEW1 ended up being a commercial success -- I seem to vaguely recall it doing mediocre/okay. But if the audience for 2 has to know the events of 1, and this is the full extent of their marketing push, I think Bethesda is letting the game go out there to die, and that's kind of sad, regardless of my own relative lack of strong investment in the franchise. :(

With how things are looking. This is probably the last TEW we ever see

im sure he likes working on Evil Within though, its fairly different from RE

How much did the first one sell?

Can't find numbers

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Evil_Within#Sales

The Evil Within was the second best selling game in the United Kingdom for all-formats during the week of its release.[57] In the United States, the game was the third best selling game of October 2014. The game set the record for the highest-selling first month of sales for a new survival horror intellectual property (IP),[58] but the record was later broken by Dying Light, when it released in January 2015.[59]

Have you heard of id Software?

Is this a Trick Question?
I never heard of that , um game company?

It's an alternate history World War 2 game where you fight nazis and nazi robots.

The newest ones take place during the 1960s in a world where the nazis won.

Ah, like the man in the high castle - Also, the whole plot of Nazis winning sounds disrespectful , but it's just science fiction I guess.
and LOL nazis robots. :D I'm going to google that later , just in case I'm being trolled.

On topic: Yeah, I hope TEW2 doesn't bomb, I want to see tango studios come up with a new IP in the future,
but I get they must have their fair share of money first, like platinum to be able to expand a bit.

How old are you?
I mean, are u kidding us? D:

What does age have anything to do with not knowing who id software is?

Chill dude.

I'm really excited but the lack of promotion and late copies going to reviewers means this is pretty much being sent out to die.

Wolfenstein has way more momentum behind it for obvious reasons and I think that coming out in in the same time frame as this and Asssassins Creed and Mario Odyssey is totally daft. I don't understand Bethesda.

Yeah, you can really feel the difference in expectations Bethesda has for Wolfenstein 2 and The Evil Within 2 ever since both games were revealed at E3.

The latter has been very low key in promotion and coverage versus the former.

Mind, I'm not sure Wolfenstein will knock it out of the park either, but Bethesda's behavior suggests they expect The Evil Within 2 to tank instead of just being a modest seller.

I think Bethesda knows the audience this time around. They probably don't see a favorable ROI when it comes to marketing it like they did with the first.

The people that are going to buy the game already know they're going to buy it. I'm not sure if a multi-million dollar marketing campaign will bring in enough to offset the cost.

saying that you hoped Tango worked on something else i disagree, since the ending of the first game they were already hinting at making a sequel and Mikami had the chance to expand and polish the ideas presented on the first game

Must be base on location but I seen trailer ads,Web ads, youtube channel coverages and articles and all in positive light
It's also featured to pre-order on most Internet stores and is almost always has a thread on our first page in the last month
DOOM Switch I seen an thread about it being 720p and that's it.
So I can't say I agree

With no review scores and no sales numbers This Thread is the equivalent of calling a psychic hotline number all fluff and no facts and lots of guessing

Not sure if this has already been said, but I think another big issue is that the cover art just does not convey the same "oomph" factor that the first game did.

EW1 had the nail going down into the eye. It was striking and clearly a horror game. Logo was organically tied into this imagery. I know several people who picked it up because they were looking for a horror game, and it looked like a good candidate. You look at it and immediately understand the genre and even some of the themes.

EW2's cover is a mass of white. It takes a few moments to even figure out what the hell it is, much less the information it is supposed to convey to you. Personally I think the artwork is great, but that's only because I've played the first game and I see what themes the new artwork is conveying. The average consumer looking at this white mass on a shelf has nothing to go on. There is no sense of kinetic or striking imagery, like the nail coming down into the eye. There's just this artsy blob of white that doesn't even look "horror-like" per se, at least not until you sit there and really look at it for a few moments.

I prefer EW2's cover, but I do not think it is marketable artwork. And for how little hype the game will have due to Bethesda's draconian review policies, that "I saw it on the shelf and thought it looked interesting" factor will be a lot more important.

See, I feel like I'm looking at a different game than everyone else. I thought a collective agreement was the first game's environment was its primary draw. The one thing everyone could agree was great about the game. This sequel is visually cleaner but these environments are so, so boring looking. A city setting, A featureless farm house. The one interesting thing I saw were people draped in sheets, hanging from chains. Even then they were an accessory to what was a boring hospital setting with bloodied up tiles, corridors and double doors. Just not feeling it.

That’s what happens when you let youtubers play the first half of a narrative focused game weeks before it launches.

Some won’t like it. Some will just wait and watch them play the second half of it.

The Arkane Austin one is heartbreaking given how criminally underrated Prey was, and it's disastrous sales. Gamers love loot boxes, hate terrific games like Prey. Depressing as hell.

Come on, that's an unrealistic depiction of what the average consumer does when browsing for games. You place way too much emphasis on the coverart as if it's in a vacuum.

Even the dumbest idiot can guess what the genre of the game would be with the giant ominous blood red title "THE EVIL WITHIN 2" on the cover.

And even the laziest sloth can muster the effort to read the back of the cover.

We're looking at the same game, trust me. But I did enjoy the first and will be going back for seconds here.

I don't expect a TEW3 but I like how cleaner TEW2 is, it's almost more accessible from a user/gamer standpoint. Maybe that's kudos to Johanas and why he was picked to hell the sequel...to add some clean Western flavor from a design aspect. I dig it.

Already preloaded here and I await Friday. It's a Evil Within week for me.

Nope. There just isn't any other horror games out now that are like it. Besides Silent Hill, The Evil Within is one of the best psychological horror games to ever grace a gaming platform. But with XBOX releasing in November, Mario right around the corner, and Friday the 13th physical launching the same day, it might not get the reception needed for a 3rd entry. Hoping for at least 500k but that's pushing it.

A lot of ppl either slept on TEW or were too scared to finish it. Only 13% of ppl that bought it on Xbox actually beat it. And that was on Casual. Survial is currently sitting at 6.9% and Nightmare is below 3%. This isn't a walking simulator like Soma. This is combat driven horror with tank controls. It's old school as fuck.

It's a shame that so many great games are releasing in such a small window. Add on top of that I already have a backlog from earlier this year so some games I want to purchase will be put off for months until I can get them for <$30. I'm probably only going to grab 1 of South Park, Wolfenstein 2, or The Evil Within 2 and just look for the rest some time next year.

I don't really keep in touch with videogame stuff these days but I saw a few of those ads that cover the entire side of a bus around the city I live. So I guess there is some degree of marketing effort.

It’s absolutely fucked. It could literally be the best game of the year and it would still be fucked. (Poor Dishonored 2 etc etc)Horror is niche at the best of times; and the first didn’t do well enough to have mass demand for a sequel. Coupled with its release window? It’s fucked.
