Took a little bit, but it looks like my fieldrunners and flight control are updating in GC. Sweet.

'Vyer' if anybody wants to add.

managed to get a new Touch at Best Buy tonight. Thing is fucking beautiful. Gotta hand it to Apple. Added name to Game Center thread.

Please Apple, give us a new theme. Felt?

You may have heard NZ had a large earthquake in the past week. We thought we'd help out via one of our relevant iPhone games -

New Zealand iPhone Publisher Supporting Christchurch Earthquake Victims

WELLINGTON, New Zealand – September 9, 2010 – PikPok™, a leading smartphone game developer and publisher based in New Zealand, today announced that for the next month it will be donating half of all profits from the #1 selling app, Flick Kick™ Rugby, to support victims of the recent Christchurch earthquakes.

With multiple earthquakes registering between 5.1 and 7.2 on the Richter scale over the past three days, the destruction has been devastating, causing more than $4 Billion in estimated damage. PikPok will make its donation to the New Zealand Red Cross on October 11th, 2010.

“Rugby is New Zealand’s national sport and we felt this could be a great way to help the many people that have lost their homes, businesses and cherished memories in the recent quakes,” said Jos Ruffell, manager of the PikPok label. “As a New Zealand studio, we have many friends that have been affected and we hope we can provide support through our games.”

Flick Kick Rugby is available in the iTunes App Store for $0.99 at: http://links.pikpokgames.com/web/rugby

Alternatively, you can make a direct donation via www.redcross.org.nz

Getting everyone at home and the office to buy Flick Kick... I didn't buy it before because it's Rubgy >_>

(Got Bird Strike, forgive me Mario :P)

Wow, holy shit! Perhaps there is hope after all for FFT supporting retina.

Holy shit. Glad I held off on the iPad version :lol

Also, if it hasn't been recommended already, Super Mega Worm is awesome fun, and dead cheap right now too.

iPad screen looks like shit by today's standard (after iPhone 4 and iTouch 4 came out) :lol
Can't wait to get next year's iPad with Retina screen and camera built in.

Does maths elude you?

How is a device the size of an iPad going to have a resolution greater than an Apple Cinema Display?

Amazing shots below, can't wait to update it and check it out!

FF:T is comprised of significantly more 2D assets, and they originate from a time before HD mattered so, I'm still putting the chances of proper retina support at like <1%. But I guess even pixelated 2D artwork / UI mixed with higher res 3D battlefield edges would be better than nothing.

As you can see in the Chaos Rings shots, the 2D elements (aside from the UI) remain low-res (textures in battlefield, and pre-rendered backgrounds). With FF:T there's a lot more UI to recreate, and I don't see them putting in all that work.

Has anyone tried Crimson Gem Saga? It's currently 50% off on the app store and I'm kind of tempted.

I haven't played it very much yet, but aside from a little inefficient use of the touch screen when navigating menus / shops, it's an excellent port, and most people would recommend it. Definitely grab it at half off if you're interested!

Wow, what a huge difference in Chaos Rings. I may have to pick this up now ..

Was worth picking up before, now even more so! If you enjoy FF games, you should definitely enjoy it. Very well done, fun puzzles, and best use of controls in an RPG on the iPhone to date.

Why?

Looks better (smaller screen so things will look sharper) and cheaper on the iPhone/Touch I'd guess!

Facepalm.

I'm curious about the Chaos Rings update.

In this video, the iPad version looks like it runs REALLY slow. Does this accurately reflect how the HD version of this game runs?

If so, I hope that the new retina display update doesn't make the iPhone/iPod versions run at the same sluggish speed.

Also, thanks for the heads up about the Crimson Gem Saga sale!!! I would have missed it otherwise. Is there a better way to keep on top of sales? I signed up for Appshopper.com, created a wishlist, but received no email notification this morning it was on sale.

The iPad version does look really slow. The iPhone game seems to move a bit faster, but it is still a choppy game over all (very low framerate all the time). Performance seems no different from the original lower resolution version, for the most part. Transparencies near the screen do cause a bit of additional slowdown, but it's not a huge deal. It's not really a technical show piece. Looks like a PSX game running in a higher resolution with perspective corrected textures.

Would love to see a game like Chaos Rings created for UE3. Would be a perfect type of game for that engine. Epic Citadel runs much smoother than Chaos Rings, that's for sure.

Can't wait to get next year's iPad with Retina screen and camera built in.
Good luck with that. Achieving the same DPI as the current iPhone screen on an iPad would require a tremendous overall of the GPU in the iPad and a lot of extra ram. The resolution would be stupidly high. To achieve 264 DPI (still lower than iPhone4), they would have to raise the resolution to 2048x1536. Do you really think their portable hardware is capable of driving such a high resolution? That's without considering the costs of manufacturing a 10" LCD with that resolution.

Downloading Crimson gem saga now as well as the Chaos rings update. I kinda regret not getting the 32 gig iPhone now =>

Small question, is iOS 4.2 not out for touch devices yet? iTunes for me keeps saying 4.0.2, I have the 2nd gen touch which can use game center.

Didn't you hear the rumours that they're also going to put an nvidia GTX 460 in it?

I did not expect to game on the thing much. I regret not getting the 32 as well.

It was one of the better RPGs I played on the PSP. The writing was great (and funny), standard but fun battle system, very nice graphics, good music, the works.

I now have 26 games on my iPhone 4 and none of them have updated for Game Center. :(

I would personally suggest Flight Control, Real Racing, Azkend and Zen Bound 2. a decent mix of genres. all quality and all look great on the retina screen

(And Fieldrunners if you like tower defense - I do not)

I played some Flight Control for the first time since I played it on my G1 iPod Touch however long ago. Damn that game looks good in Retina. I'm still only decent at it but I'm apparently #13 out of 20 on the friends leaderboards. Got to fix that shit, stat! :lol

I get so unreasonably pissed off by the 'CRASH' sound the game makes when two planes collide. It's so sharp in my ear!

Edit:
Anyone try Megaplex Madness yet? Playing the tutorial now. Seems like an interesting concept. I guess it's like Diner Dash or something.

WSOP is actually pretty fun if you're looking for a decent SP poker experience. There's a little career mode and stuff and it's really easy to cycle through hands. Not bad overall.

Once I get game centre i'll be replaying Real Racing for sure, love that game when it came out and played it a ton, replaying it from a clean install will be a treat.

No one know about iOS4.2 on touch devices? still not showing in my iTunes. Is it for a later date on touch?

I downloaded it last night on my 3G Touch. (4.1 I guess to be clear.)

unfortunately, we won't be getting 4.2 for quite a while.

but I was able to update my 2nd gen iTouch to 4.1 last night! :D (in the U.S. if that makes a difference.)

Like 75 games here (on a 16GB too!), only Flight Control and Field Runners support GC I think. Just give it time, it usually takes Apple like 2 weeks to get updates approved, so in another month+ I'm hoping around 1/3 of my games support it.

I have a feeling having GC support will lead to increased sales, so it's in the best interest of the app developers to add it in.

I've got like 150 apps and none support GC!
Chaos Rings for the iPhone 4 just got a retina and multitasking update.
Hybrid 2, sequel to Chillingo's side scrolling ARPG just hit for $5.
Defender Chronicles really is surprisingly awesome. Not big on TD games but I'm happy i gave it a shot.

I bought Azkend cuz i saw it on one of my friends' recently played lists.

I am but a pawn in Apple's game.

(still a great game. i should've got it years ago)

Oh right I take it 4.1 gives us 2g and above touch owners game centre, right? right? ;_;

How does Crimson Gem Saga play on iPad? Does it look good enough?
I only have an iPad since I jumped ship to Android on phones.

DoDonpachi looks great and Final Fantasy is alright too but for example Phoenix Wright is a bit iffy on iPad. (Still like it though)

edit: Also how does iPad handle games that support retina on iPhone?
