Fuck, I was almost ready to pick up a new ipod, but after reading that anand review... sub 300:1 contrast ratio? The whole reason I was looking forward to this thing was to have a nice screen. I guess I'll wait for the iPad 2 for my next iOS device, assuming they don't fuck that one up.

I'm not surprised at the 256MB of ram considering that is what the iPad has. I was trying to decide whether to get this or an ipad to replace my aging second generation iPod Touch, considering this info I will go with the iPad I think.

Is the new touch model going to be selling for the regular £170-£180 price tag every other touch has been?

Well it doesn't really seem any worse than the previous Touch, its just a minor upgrade, whereas the iPHONE 4 was a huge upgrade. Pricing isn't too bad, £190 for the base model and £250 for the 32GB unit but when you consider how much its been gimped well its pretty hard to justify. Definitely not worth the upgrade if you already have an iTouch.

Like I said, I could understand gimping the sub £200 model but when you're paying the best part of £300 you don't want cheap build quality, a near worthless camera and a crappy screen. You want an Iphone 4 without the contract, which is what the higher end Ipod Touch models always used to be.

sure they did. the screen on the old iPod touch, regardless of capacity, was always worse than the iPhone screen. viewing angles were always worse than the iPhone screen.

the first gen model’s screen was particularly poor.

this time they have a decent LCD screen but since it’s not IPS, it’s going to look worse at off angles.

i'm pretty sure that flick kick football's "universal" nature is just the retina display version stuck directly onto the ipad screen, given the aspect ratio. any developer could do this if they wanted, but evidently they don't...

The main overhead for making a universal app is creating a second set of UI and menus for the iPad. The other challenge is to then keep the packet under 20mb's!

Hoping that Apple will raise the limit again soon...

I did pay attention, but I can't confirm that yet. Since getting the update, I haven't seen any long cutscenes.

It's a guess, but based upon when they unveiled the iPad. Similar to the month always recurring for the iPhone and iTouch for their releases. Could be completely wrong, but since they didn't do it now I would expect a new one next Jan/Feb.

I beat the game quite a while ago, 108% I didn't want to post screenshots of the missing text because they are from the true ending, ie, beat the game with all four couples. You gain the extra 8% from beating PiuPiu post 100%

EDIT: Yes, it works. I earned two Flight Control Achievements off line and they loaded into Game Center once I turned on wifi.

Yep, four star'ed every dungeon, but like you said it's not needed to complete the game.

I just noticed that this pic (taken from an iPod Touch) has a similar color replication issue on the iPhone 4. This clearly won't affect gaming, but the relatively low contrast might (at least when compared to the iPhone 4; it's still ahead of the 3G.)

I have a dilemma, should I sell my PSP-1000 for a 4th gen touch? I never use my PSP as an MP3 player and I rarely play games on it. Do the games have PSP quality on the thouch? I thin it still seems great despite not being an IPS panel.

I use the PSP on trips as a games/movie/music device still but it is too big to carry around everyday, and I would feel like a waste to have a PSP and iPod Touch...

There are a few console quality games but generally most games are pretty shallow in comparison. On the plus side when there is something nice it's usually like $10 at most and most other stuff is under $5, occasionally free even. Like you might have some puzzler in retail that costs $20-30 but there's a bunch of good iPhone ones for around a buck.

Yeah the iPod touch was always gimped. Like it hasn't had a camera until now, had no speaker until 2nd gen (and no mic until this gen?), no GPS, no compass, 1st gene Bluetooth was gimped, etc.

If you want the iPhone hardware get a contract free one. If you don't want to pay that much then deal with the iPod just like every other one.

You can use the Nike+ GPS app for walking, I tested it the other day with a walk to work. Doesn't matter how slow you go, it still registers the distance.

Also, if you already have at least a 2nd gen touch but don't have an ipad, I'd personally grab an ipad rather than updating to a 4th gen touch. There isn't enough of an improvement IMO to upgrade - 2nd gen touch is still very slim, most games will support it as there are so many out there, and game center will run on it (plus folders for organising). Ipad gives you a different form factor which lends itself to different types of games really well.

As soon as they release an ipod touch with a decent main camera I'll probably jump, but I'd like GPS as well. Apple needs to relax about the thinness.
