Oh nice 4.1 did give my touch game center, yay I am happy!

Feel free to add "Diab" to your friends list, kept the name short and simple :D

Flight Control must be raking it in atm as its one of the major Game Centre enabled apps - Just wish more of my games would update with it

I have never owned flight control but I have seen so much if it and it's clones out there, plus I like Firemint so I really should buy it today now that it has game center support.

Think I'm gonna buy it at this rate - almost everyone on the friends list has it or has played it :lol

Yeah, I got Flight Control as well (finally?). Not because I wanted to test out Game Center, because I already had Zen Bound 2. I just thought... it's one buck for a supposedly fun game with GC so why not? And the devs deserve some support.

I'll be curious to see numbers. Every game that had Game Center at launch must have seen a huge spike in sales yesterday. :lol

edit: Also how does iPad handle games that support retina on iPhone?
It doesn't. Once we get iOS 4.2 I suspect it will render those games at the proper resolution, but until then, it simply present the app in the original 480x360 resolution.

Won't that wreck the business model of having retina versions as a free upgrade and selling HD versions as a separate app?

There seems to be a bug in Chaos Rings. The sound effects all pretty much stop working almost immediately. :\

I think it's a bit of a mistake from apple, they knew that they wanted a high res screen in the iphone 4, not having instant support for it on ipad is a bit weak, having seperate app's for ipad is also rather dumb for some games where they release two versions, yet the iphone version then get's retina support, wasted cash.

The controls and interface would still be unoptimized for the larger screen.

More importantly, it might cause developers to stop releasing universal apps, which is what we should really want.

Blame the developers, not Apple. Any dev can make their app universal if they choose to.

Seriously? hmm maybe i will hold off on buying it tonight until it is fixed

Genre folders for games, purpose folders for apps. Deleting the stuff I don't actually use. Works well for me!

Well, the sound effects aren't exactly amazing or anything and the music still works fine.

Damn. Just got through the entire first chapter of Megaplex Madness and raked in about 12 achievements. I played Diner Dash maybe once at a computer at work but couldn't get into it, but the movie theater theme hooked me in somehow.

Looking at the GC iTunes page and seeing Pac-Man there, I'm hopeful Pac-Man CE gets a GC update. DLed Farmville, but I don't know how often I'll be playing that. I originally had the other farm-sim game (We Farm?), but I got annoyed/bored/impatient with it.

Text also gets cut off at the edge of the screen when a sentence is too long. I think they just ported the iPad version and cropped off the left and right edge of the screen.

i'm pretty sure that flick kick football's "universal" nature is just the retina display version stuck directly onto the ipad screen, given the aspect ratio. any developer could do this if they wanted, but evidently they don't...

Folders for each genre and one for new games (or I lose them quickly) and one for favourite games on the front panel

Folders for genres and sub-genres.
I also installed Infinifolders on my JB phone to break the silly 12 app per folder limitation.

The Chaos Rings update is terrible. As noted above, it's missing sound effects and it gets really, really slow during special attacks in battle. The graphics didn't even improve that much. For those of you who have the game but haven't downloaded the update yet, I suggest you hold off.

Worse than before? Guess I'll hold off, hopefully they'll re-update it because of the big sound flaw. Dark10x made it sound like framerate was same, but you're saying it worse now...

It's mostly the same (shitty), but it does actually seem to slow down a lot more when transparencies fill the screen.

Never could figure out why 1) the game ran so slowly and 2) they didn't use texture filtering of any sort.

I'm not trying to sound condescending, just checking: You are playing on an iPhone 4, right?
It definitely looks much sharper, but it still lacks texture filtering and all of the backgrounds remain low resolution. Looks like a PSX game run through an emulator now.

Has anyone seen Anad's review of the new iTouch?

http://www.anandtech.com/show/3903/apples-ipod-touch-2010-review-not-a-poor-mans-iphone-4

Pretty disappointing tbh, I was actually considering one and (perhaps wrongly) assumed that all I'd really be missing out on is the 3G modem, well that's definitely not the case.

Among the complaints are much lower quality build quality, terrible contrast ratio and viewing angles on the screen (this is the major downer for me), a really poor placement/quality speaker and mic which make Facetime without the $30 wired mic all but useless, 256MB of RAM, no GPS, and a really crappy camera (that can't capture native HD video despite Apple's claims).

A real shame, I'm not willing to accept that many downgrades from the Iphone 4, it looks like they really cheaped out in as many areas as possible this time.

The ball in the last shot should be yellow, um yeah.
:/

:/

I just test drove several Touches and iPhones at my local Apple store, and maybe it's the store lighting or maybe my untrained eye, but the differences were not even close to that extreme. I did notice that the viewing angle on the Touch is worse (but still great), but other than that the screens looked very very similar.

I am definitely bugged by the 256MB Ram and the apparent lack of Gorilla glass (the Apple people had no clue) as well as the 0.7mp camera (yes it's pretty weak), but otherwise, the device seemed pretty sweet. Definitely not canceling my order.

Bought a new ipod touch. I don't care about the camera, probably won't ever use it. RAM is a bit odd, but I won't complain until/if games come out which demand more. The screen difference is only noticeable to me at sharper viewing angles. At regular angles the games/screen looked just as sharp as on the iphone 4.

Well the numbers back it up, the black levels are dire, no two ways around that and the viewing angles are just something that don't jive well with a device that's going to be titled so much. Its killed any chance of me picking one up.

Reading that when remembering that the last iTouch was pretty much on par with the iPhone at its time leads to sadface.

Exactly, that's the issue I'm seeing, this isn't an Iphone 4 without a modem, its a completely different product which is inferior in pretty much every way. I don't mind them gimping the entry level model, but cheaping out on damn near every area possible on even the £330 model kills it for me.

It's half the price of the iPhone 4. Of course they 'cheapened' out on it.

Lack of IPS is an annoyance more than anything, did people really complain about the previous displays Apple used that didn't have IPS?

I have a dilemma, should I sell my PSP-1000 for a 4th gen touch? I never use my PSP as an MP3 player and I rarely play games on it. Do the games have PSP quality on the thouch? I thin it still seems great despite not being an IPS panel.

I use the PSP on trips as a games/movie/music device still but it is too big to carry around everyday, and I would feel like a waste to have a PSP and iPod Touch...

And the masses only need to see bullet points like

Facetime
Retina Display
HD Video Recording
Better Gaming.

The framerate is relatively fine, until you trigger a special attack. Divine Fist slows the game down dramatically, even after rebooting the device.

Heh, sure. What I mean is, the graphics update is not noticeable enough, especially on a small screen, to be worth all the bugs. I fell in love with retina display the first time I saw it in action, but if Chaos Rings was the first game I saw it in, I would probably feel differently.

By the way, a quick Chaos Rings question. I've completed the game with three pairs so far, three times each, fighting all the super bosses. On my third playthrough as Ayuta and
Shea
, the hub area is blue. Is that a bug of some sort or is it supposed to be like that?

Damn that's some real cheap corner cuts from apple there, it's not worth trading all that off just for some better power for apps, means shit if the screen is crap and sound is fucked.

Is the new touch model going to be selling for the regular £170-£180 price tag every other touch has been?

I have another page with the remaining folder letters. Problem is that I filled the S folder and I have to split them into S1 and S2

I was going to say as I saw how you organized it S must be busy. It's a popular letter in English for game titles for some reason, always has been.

I just have Genre folders. Action, Arcade, Puzzle etc.... multiples of each of course...damn 12 icon limit.

This is an awesome idea.

Don't think I can be arsed to go through all my games, though.

Are you serious? The screen is a massive upgrade from the previous model, and now it's corner cutting? Who looks at their device from such extreme angles? How are people not impressed by the screen? Do you think these 10° shots are indicative of what it looks like front on?

Everything about the iPod Touch is better than the last model, for the same price, yet some how people manage to be completely underwhelmed, despite there not being a single product from a competing company to compare it to.

How did you get those icons next to your folders?

Nice idea. I've only had my iPhone for about a month, and I sort of liked the idea of keeping everything on a single page, but it's already becoming difficult to maintain, so I might try something like this instead.

With one of those Emoji keyboard App, the ones that allow you to type emoticons, icons, etc. for text messages. You can not type it directly into the folder, just type it in any Notes app and then copy and paste into the folder name.

You can type it directly into the folder name without needing to copy as long as you have the emoji keyboard enabled.

By some reason when I tried to name the folder, it doesn't let me change the keyboard to the emoji one.

edit: Damn, I just tried it right now directly into the folder and now works :-/

I'm not surprised at the 256MB of ram considering that is what the iPad has. I was trying to decide whether to get this or an ipad to replace my aging second generation iPod Touch, considering this info I will go with the iPad I think.
