I enjoyed our best of 3. I feel like my eyes freaked out at the end of the last one and went nuts slicing your stuff :lol

I wouldn't be too sure about that; voice chat is directly supported even! It has its own section in the Game Kit API docs and everything. So adding text chat support by yourself isn't really a stretch.

Is there a rejection precedent for this?

Come on guys, there's no conspiracy. They just got Game Center up and running, and it's Apples first ever gaming service. Maybe give them a version or two before gathering the pitchforks and torches?

I see that a few people in this thread have Lumines. How does it compare to say the 360 version? I love it on 360 and it would be even better on portable. Anything missing or added?

Yes there's TONS missing. Fewer skins (though some new ones) and the controls are pretty tough to get used to. That saying, I still love it (too big of a Lumines fan) and they have little medals for time and score attack which were fun to get.

Honestly I have absolutely no idea.
I'm new to the whole iPhone thing.
Besides, mine's jailbroken, so I do have access to other texting apps.

But there's got to be a reason why they're going to Cydia instead of the App Store, I'd think.
Texting's basically free money for the phone carriers. There could be contractual issues there between phone carriers and Apple.

*shrugs*

Agreed. I love the new skins. The touch interface will slow down the game a bit but I absolutely love the game.

That said, how do you unlock the time attack modes?

MI2 looks so crisp on Iphone 4 now after this update, it's ridiculous. Used to be a bit blurry even on 3GS, now it's like a night and day when I compare the two versions (3GS vs. 4).

Here's few more screens. They forgot to update the icons, but not a big deal.

It was a terrible port. Don't know if it was ever updated to fix controls either. I'd strongly recommend 'Unify' instead. Here's a demo: http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/unify-lite/id335451778?mt=8

When I click on the pack, it lists single, endless, and all times (though I don't remember if I had to do anything to unlock):

Bummer they haven't released any skins other than the comic pack. Would certainly buy another just to go through new skins and get the medals.

Yes, they did.

If that were the case, they would block IM apps, Skype, everything. They don't.

Why? Different protocols and technologies; and typically at least somewhat proprietary as well. Texting is basically universal; hardware and carrier independent. Admittedly IM tech doe seem to be going a similar route, though not quite there.

Do you really think that the makers of BiteSMS wouldn't rather have their amazing and full-featured texting replacement app on the App Store? Citing App Store/Apple restrictions, the full-featured BiteSMS stays on Cydia, leaving only the heavily stripped down (and Apple compliant) version called MunchSMS on the App Store. MunchSMS might as well be another proprietary app, for how limited it is compared to its bigger brother.

Man, Fruit Ninja update, MI2, Stardunk and Pocket Frogs added just because of the last few pages. :lol They are all awesome though.

Someone please make a pocket frogs thread. I would but, you know, junior member : (

Everybody needs this game. It's so ridiculously addicting and fun. It's also really cheap (free). I've been trying to breed this damn frog for like 3 hours lol.

Chatting in Game Center is closer to IM than texting, IMO. I just see this as a 1.0 software thing, not a evil nefarious lockdown thing. Words with Friends has had in game chat forever, for example.

And yes, Pocket Frogs is growing on me. :lol

Why are you not able to breed it?

Hot damn if that screenshot trick isn't fun to play with....

sorry if these are 90 degrees off rotation... photobucket takes some time to update changes :/

Something seems to have gone awry in my Game Center, because I suddenly got around 10 or so achievements for Word Scramble Challenge without having done anything.

The new unlocked achievements aren't even listed as unlocked in the game itself. :lol

Having some trouble with the MI2 update. Its downloading than fails about half way than restarts and does it over and over and I have no idea what I need to do :/

Fruit Ninja or Stardunk?

It's not the cost, it's the fact that I still have too many games to play. :(
But I don't have a true MP iPhone game yet (WWF doesn't count, I think).

Fruit Ninja but Stardunk is pretty fucking addicting. Honestly you should own both :lol

If it's any consolation, The Secret of Monkey Island just hit 99 cents.

came in to post this. the two of the very best adventure games ever created for 99 cents each is just goddamn amazing (monkey island 1 and 2).

even though i already own both for pc (original and remakes). :p

I don't know : ( I still haven't figured it out the best way to do it. None of my frog combinations are making the correct breed. I can't think of a more simple way to do it other than hopping around till I find the correct frog with the right pattern.

It's like a puzzle. Break the frog down into it's three parts(main color, secondary color, pattern) then breed frogs that have one or more of those parts. Once you build up a nice catalog, it's easy to mix and match.

For example, to get this frog:

c82d5714.jpg

I already have a yellow anura, but it doesn't have the right blue cheeks. I can breed it with this guy:

1b090f4d.jpg

And I have a 1 in 8 chance of getting the frog I want. However, If I breed it with another Anura with the right secondary color:

4ba18bf5.jpg

Now I have a 1 in 4 chance of getting the right frog. Easy peasy.

IM is pretty close, you can already send and receive text messages to/from phone numbers. And I'm pretty sure there's a few apps that are meant entirely for that, when you register you get a phone number that can receive texts (pushed to the app) and can send out from. It looks like that's what munchsms does actually...well they make you pay for messages though.

BiteSMS pretty much takes over or augments the regular Messages app doesn't it? It has nothing to do with texting restrictions as much as it sounds like it does a shit load of stuff that just isn't allowed code/dev agreement wise, which is 99% of jailbreak stuff.

Any decent basketball games you guys can suggest?
Star Dunk doesn't look like it's a basketball game...but it is, well it's like a Pop a Shot game but from a side view with worldwide simultaneous multiplayer.

If you want a full regular basketball game I don't know, I think NBA Live might be on there.

I'll redownload it then. Hopefully they made it much better because it was broken in the original release.
Yep I never played it when it released, just after the fix. My money is on you still hating it. :lol

No GC achievements and leaderboards in Fruit Ninja sucks. I hope most games allow us to choose between OF (or plus) and GC instead of mixing them like FN.

Does it matter story-wise which monkey island I play first? Cause I think I wanna start with II. Thats the best one right?

I believe the game should still work. It needs 3GS+ and 4.1 for the Game Center stuff, but the game itself runs fine without that enabled.

There are characters and jokes you wouldn't have the same understanding of. And Monkey 1 is still an absolutely amazing gam well worth playing.

Fruit Ninja will work just fine on a 3G - the only thing is that the new multiplayer mode with Game Center isn't 3G compatible. The rest of the game with all its other modes and features will work just fine!

Damn, now I'm going to be waiting a bit to see if they give Monkey Island 1 the retina support as well before I start in on it.

Both for $1 is/was a steal. Stuff like that is my primary reason for sticking my nose in this thread every so often (and to be depressed that game like FF Tactics and Sword and Sorcery still aren't out).

Tetris is $1? Finally, I am willing to pay that price. I've been wanting Tetris on my phone for years and years, since it was stock on my old bullshit dumbphones, but I wasn't about to spend $5-10 on it. $1 is my sweet spot. FINALLY

Also, what the hell is up with the Plus+ network, I've been trying to add people in Pocket Frogs for like 15 minutes and it's not working.

Edit: TETRIS DOESN'T HAVE RETINA DISPLAY GRAPHICS WHAT THE FUCK

There are some references to the first game, but it's not really important to the sequel. I personally would play them in order though.

Also, where the hell is my Tetris music?

This is like the worst version of Tetris I've ever played. I'd rather it have just been a port of the GameBoy game with on-screen controls. Thank God it was only $1. Now I have to go find the Tetris tune and add it to my iTunes library so I can at least play with the proper music. >:(
