so what exactly is the point of pocket frogs? i'm not getting it.
Mix and match the various frogs to earn awards, unlock new stuff, level up.

It's a collectathon game. To put it another way, it's like making the crafting portion of an MMO the whole game.

Just got my iPad; what to get? I have Zend Bounds 2, Canabalt, Flick Kick Football, Gravity Hook HD, Solipskier,... that's all I can think of right now. I would love some recommendations for universal apps and/or excellent iPad exclusive games. I didn't get Osmos yet, and I'm thinking the iPad version is the one to get, no?

On a semi-related note, I'm currently beta testing "Linkoidz", an upcoming game by Retro Dreamer (they made Sneezies before). Can't share much of my experience since it's a private beta, but it's a fun match-3 puzzler with some cool twists. Universal, supports Retina, looks and plays great.

Yeah, but there's not even a "pokedex" type feature that keeps track of your frogs (I realize they're adding one in the future). So pointless.

This will make a big difference, the sooner they get it out. the 50 limit in the catalogue hurts my soul.

If you've been annoyed by your inability to truly boast about your best runs other than posting to Facebook or Twitter, make sure you grab this update ASAP."

I guess. Like, I said, I'm having fun unlocking the awards. To be honest, it's refreshing to play a game like this where the product doesn't "spoil", forcing you to log in at set intervals or else. For that one reason alone, it's better than We Rule, Farmville, or any of the others.

My biggest complaint is that it uses Plus+. I want all my games to use Game Center.

Argghhhh.

Guitar Hero just updated with Game Center support. Or at least it was supposed to! I just get an error about "This game is not recognized by Game Center." Maybe they put the support in, released the update but never cleared the Game Center support with Apple? Anyone else get the GC support working?

Nope, not working here either. It's not connecting to their servers either (says offline at top of home screen). Given the patch notes said there's still crashing errors with having more than 40 DLC purchased (lol), another patch can't be too far off.

EXTREEEEEME!

I bought Piyo Blocks 2 HD (for iPad) and I feel like I am missing something when it comes to playing the game properly. Does anyone have tips for doing well with this game? Specifically for getting large combos? I tend to focus on little match 3 situations and never really end up getting too many huge combos. I look at the high scores and I don't see how I could possibly ever get even a tenth of some of these scores playing the way I do so I'm curious if there is a trick to getting huge combos that I am missing.

Went to Best Buy today and impulse purchased the new gen iPod Touch. Already grabbed Espgaluda 2, DoDonPachi, and Chaos Rings. I see lots of positive impressions for Flight Control, so I'll just go ahead and download it.

Any fun action RPGs or something with loot and grinding? Hell, if there is anything you guys find fun, tell me about it and I'll be sure to check it out.

Caligo Chaser's worth a shot if you can tolerate really awful controls (there's a free version). There's nice groundwork under the bad controls.

Zenonia's another choice if you can tolerate a poor framerate, definitely has grinding. Across Age is less grinding more action, better framerate too, but a little less length. If you want some more old school w/ grinding get Shining Force, or Rimelands is fun (newer), but it's turn-based and has no retina support (not that any of the others do either). Undercroft's free and supposed to be pretty good as well, but that's also turn based and old-school...

Loot games you have Dungeon Hunter 2 (think Diablo-lite) to keep an eye out for, due out soon, it will support co-op via Game Center, so that may be fun. There's plenty of other stuff, for every game someone recommends, I feel like there's like 4 others they didn't know about (and on and on).

My usual mix of recommendations are (more or less):

Carcassonne, Sword & Poker 2, Plants vs Zombies (and Defender Chronicles if you're really into TD games), Song Summoner, Sim City Deluxe, R-Type, Drop 7, Helsing's Fire, & Dark Nebula 1/2 to name a few.

Wow, what a list! I appreciate it.

I'll definitely be checking out Caligo Chaser, Across Age, Sword & Poker, Dark Nebula, and a couple others. I really don't care if a game has dated design or anything like that, as long as I can have a good time with it.

Once again, thanks for the help!

They apparently have their own writers and shit. Doesn't seem to be the worst site around for checking for games.

So here's an example:

The platform holder celebrating an indie release? Good form, definitely.

so, it's a dragon quest monsters clone now?

Can anyone comment on Super Puzzle or any other jigsaw app on iPad? Thinking about buying one of these.

Also, is there any obscure/kawai/cute games for iPad? My fiancee is Chinese so I would like to get something nice.

Talk about a shock. As the first game to try out on the new ipod touch 4g I got today, I chose Epic Citadel. Could not believe my eyes, and then going outside the castle, looking back on it, the mountains, everything and no slow down? Ludicrous.

Gangstar: Miami "Vice City" Retribution is out now in New Zealand. It'll hit the UK at Midnight, not sure about US.

What the heck? I bought Mirror's Edge and when I open it all the text is in Chinese. I have no idea if you can change the language in any options because everything is... well, chinese. What's happened here?

Can any one comment on Labyrinth 2. It got updated yesterday for retina display and gamecenter support. But the game still at $4.99

If it is Japanese look for an option that looks like this: 言語, however if it is Chinese look for something like this: 語言, but not quite (sorry, I can read but not write simplified Chinese characters). Good luck.

Edit: I'll give simp Chinese another try: 语言, or 中文 maybe.

Thanks a lot, buddy, found my way to the option menu.

Dear googly moogly this is a fun game! I thought it would be a bit limited when I first saw clips, but this is basically a creative, fresh, full-blown 2D platformer. So not only did Mirror's Edge successfully create a set of 3D first person platforming mechanics, they've done it with 2D touch control as well. Beautiful.

I can't comment on Labyrinth 2 as $5 is too much for me for a simple ball tilt game when you can get a game like Dark Nebula for $1.

I did however get their foosball game for the iPhone and can say that it has good ball physics so the same is likely for Labyrinth. Looks like there is a lite version to try out too. One thing about foosball is that it lacked game play options (no career mode) but it was only $1 so can't say how basic Labyrinth will be.

charmed a match 3 game is free today. just played it a bit and i like it. you have to clear certain squares to pass the level and you can rotate iphone different directions which then the tiles fall from whatever the top is. supports openfeint. if you are a match 3 fan you might as well grab it

Has anyone recently got/updated/played Labyrinth 1? I bought it around a month ago and there is a list of a gazillion user-made levels to play. I can't, however, find the developer-made levels - can anyone help? I want to start with the easy levels before going to these crazy user-created levels.

Thanks.

Iron Man 2 is down to 99 cents for who knows how long. I think it's originally $6.99

I can't endorse the game, since I haven't played it. It looks like an average (big budget for an iphone game) Gameloft tie-in. I'm just spreading the word.

My fav games atm are Maple Story: Thief Edition and Critical Wave... I *really* love Critical Wave, it's possibly the best and most beautiful Geometry Wars-style iDevice game out there atm (though I think it doesn't yet have a retina update). But I can't seem to figure out how to get high scores in it!

I played this on an iPad at the Apple Store today and it was really, really neat. Not sure if it would have the same effect on a smaller device like the iPhone, but on the iPad it was fantastic.

Congrats Halfbrick. Well deserved for the initial release, but with the crazy support you guys lent the game? Way over the top. You guys have my support in damn near anything you do.

Now gimme another stage/weapon in Monster Dash. I need motivation to get in the top 100 again. :P
