The iPhone 4 |OT|

I really dont know how apple could make the design of iphone 4 better, to me it is already perfect.

My only problem it is much more fragile than any smartphone in the marke. Maybe its just the look, but I fear this thing will shatter if i drop it even once.
 
Hope they don't go back to the curved back design.

The iPhone 4 is perfect in looks. By far the sexiest phone I have ever seen/used.

Looking forward to iOS 5. A 'safe' feature would be amazing. Adding double security so you need to put in a pass code to open a folder would be sweet. New notifications would also be awesome. The icing on top would be a messaging feature in GC.
 
Today I noticed that whenever I reach an area with 3G, my signal bars drop and get to 0, and getting the "Searching..." text, and they come back once I read GPRS connection. What's up with that, this just started happening today. Here's some pictures:

Just got my new 4 shipped, it's a marvel to be sure, I'm very happy.

But I'm completely mystified as to where to begin to look for cases. I get crazy conflicting advice from everyone, and really don't wanna spend more than $20 (which I think is too much for a case as it is, but w/e). Protection is more important than style for me. Any advice on where to begin the search?

Was going to just randomly scan the web otherwise, but I'm definitely hunting for something I can go actually buy in person today. I'm afraid of taking it out of the house on even just this one trip without a case. Thing feels so fucking fragile.

The casemate one provides exclleint protection. It seems to have changed since I bought it though. You can now select your own colours. Pretty cool. It's a bit more expensive than you want though. I spent a looong time picking cases. A third great one from all my reading was:

Again, more expensive but I think the extra money is definitely worth it for the protection. I would have gotten the candyshell one if the newer version was available when I was researching.

In other news, I bought the PhoneDevil glossy screen protector. Wasn't too bad applying it and it looks great.

I'm kind of sold on a Pixelskin; seems everyone here in the thread raves about it. I just don't know where to find one in Toronto.

Best Buy and Future Shop are both selling a pink (and only a pink) one on their sites for $16. lol.
 
What to do, what to do?
My contract on my 3GS is finished today and I was really hoping for the iPhone 5 to be out very soon so I can get that. My 3GS is on it's last legs and I need a new phone within a few weeks.
What are the chances of the 5 getting released in June/July? or is it looking like a later than September for a UK release?
Shall I bite the bullet and get a 4 ordered today? Argh

The latest I heard is that the 5 might still be coming out in June and the September thing is just a smokescreen to prevent another leak.

With no leaks on hardware orders, cases slip ups or time off requests being denied points to the new iPhone not being released in June/July and makes the next iPhone more likely a fall or next spring event.

More than any other product I've ever owned, the iPhone 4 really stands out as something special. I had no problems tossing out and upgrading old iPods and iPads and iPhones but the iPhone 4 really appeals to me.

If the iPhone 5 happens to dramatically change the design and moves away from that steel band and glass, I think I'll have to keep the iPhone 4 around even if it's no longer my main phone. I don't think I could sell it.

This is so true. I'm hoping the 5 is a 3GS style upgrade, the 4's design is just too good to throw out after only a year.

There's no hardware being announced at WWDC. It ain't coming.

I'm going to upgrade to a 4 then. Can't wait until September.

If a 5 does come out in June/July there will be murders! Well, not real murders... But I will cry!

WWDC is all about software this year. Lion, iOS, and presumably iCloud.

I'm betting the next iPhone is announced at what used to be the iPod event in September.

Where are you getting that from? They would announce 2-4 weeks before release.

There is no way they would announce a phone 6 months before release. That's insane.

That's something Apple doesn't do. They don't kill current products sales with announcements months before the new ones come out.

Once the product is set to hit the market, they announce it. A week later you have it in your hands.

It's a $7 (actually $6 when I ordered it) iPhone case, that has performed better and outlasted the much more expensive Incipio case I had on my 3GS. How and where they come from, eh, I don't really care.

Slight. I'd imagine 90% of cases would work with both. Biggest issue is the mute switch and volume buttons.

The mute button is a little lower on the Verizon iPhones.

Edit: I bought a case before that was for AT&T, and I had to cut the rectangle down with a razor blade.

In lieu of last years disaster, the secrecy makes sense. This is exactly what Apple wants, the buzz, the anticipation, the shock and awe once they finally unveil it. #shrug I'm not saying a June/July release will happen but I don't think it's impossible.
 
Hierarchy of Apple rumor mill trustworthiness:

1. Nationally syndicated newspapers like WSJ, NYT, etc
2. Bloggers with insider sources like Gruber, Dalrymple, Topolsky, etc.
3. Supply chain sources.
4. Steve Ballmer
5. Analysts
 
New talk of iPhone 4s nearly convinces me that iPhone 5 is coming. Why? Because iPhone 4S makes no sense. The only reason Apple called it the iPhone 3Gs was so they could align the naming of the 4th iPhone "iPhone 4". It simplifies the product line, and they can continue to make new models that are easily recognised. They did the same thing with iPad.

How does an iPhone 4S fit? It doesn't. If they call it iPhone 4S, what will the next iPhone be called? They can't call it iPhone 5, because it's not the "5th" iPhone any more, thus it'll have to be iPhone 6, which is even more confusing. iPhone 4 is literally the 4th iPhone.

Then again. Maybe they just don't care, and will just call it something else when the time comes, like iPhone HD or LTE (after whatever technology they'll introduce).
 
I think iPhone 4S is possible and likely, but it definitely creates a messy naming scheme. Then again the naming scheme has been completely random and messy the whole time (iPhone 4 was the only time it was named numerically) so that wouldn't change much.

I don't think we'll be seeing iPhone 5, iPhone 6, etc from here on out. Who knows. I'm still dreaming of an iPhone Pro with sliding keyboard...
 
Quick question... I have a 3GS and whenever I type me or some other words it automatically ads a " ' " afterwards like this me' automatically ... Can I fix that?

I don't even have that option on my iPhone... Just settings -- general -- keyboard and no option for dictionary...

I...don't understand anything you just said. Haha.

I mean, by some of that logic, the iPhone 3GS was the fourth iPhone, and the 4 was the fifth. Doesn't explain at all why there couldn't be a new edition of the 4, same as there was of the 3.

In other news, got my 4 in the mail yesterday. Fuck is this thing ever beautiful. This motherfucking SCREEN. I've had a 3GS since late 2009. It's like night and day. Love it.
