I'd love to go back to doing this, but the damn thing loves to just slide off things every chance it gets.

I use the bumper case and it plants it pretty firm on most surfaces. Without it that damn phone has a ground magnet in it.

Anyone know why when I sync with iTunes (Mac) that it would always re-sync certain songs? Every time I plug in it will sync up about 10 songs out of the 700 or so I have on there. I have it set to sync my entire library, and the songs are always there on the device. I don't make any tag changes...

You think people in this forum are going to listen to other tech-loving geeks, or somedude?

Besides, we CAN take our smartphones outside ya know ; )

I just tried to move iTunes to my new laptop so that I could sync my phone. However, I'm getting a ton of duplicates... I tried to uninstall iTunes and start fresh but upon reinstall it's automatically loading the settings from the previous instal.

1. How the hell do I do a true clean install? lol
2. How do I prevent the duplicates. I'm thinking I made a mistake when trying to import the previous database file (can't remember the actual name) and loaded more than 1...

I believe you have to remove a file named "library.xml" to truly start over.

I've experienced the same issue with 7-8 songs off and on for the last two years (both on PC and Mac). It's a minor thing, so I never looked into it further. Strange though!

I've always assumed that when my iDevices did this they were updating the play count, so I think those are the songs you listened to since the last synch. Play count data is important if you're shuffling by most/least listened to.

Do you guys think Apple will move to LTE/HSPA with their next iteration (I dont mean 4s)? Reason I ask is because of how important long battery life is to the whole experience.

We've seen what 4G can do to the uptime of some phones, so it makes me question if Apple will make the jump anytime soon. I'd imagine if so, they must be heavily researching battery technology, to be better prepared for it.

HSPA+ yes, LTE no.

Edit: Wait you don't mean the 5th iPhone? Second generation LTE chips will be mainstream by the 6th iPhone so I'd imagine they'd go with those.

With both MSM8960 and MSM8930, the LTE modem is built into the SoC, resulting in both smaller overall package size and likely notable improvements in power consumption from everything being made at one process. At that point, LTE becomes much less of a design challenge, and I expect battery life to be better as a result. If you want something to wait for, it’s MSM8960. The other thing to watch for are the successors to MDM9600 - the MDM9615 and MDM9625, which were announced during MWC. The former is targeted towards a 28 nm process offers some performance increases alongside reduced power consumption and a smaller overall package, making it ideal for handsets. The latter is a category 4 device (as opposed to category 3 for the former two) and thus offers a higher level of performance, and likely will go into USB modems and other data-centric platforms.

I just got a text, and halfway through the tone it cut off, burbled away and the screen cut out. I immediately pressed the home key to see if it was still on and everything was normal... Hasn't happened since.

Should I be concerned? :S

Do you think the next iPhone will be dual GSM+CDMA? I didn't expect a seperate sku for the Verizon iPhone, and if Apple continues down that path, I wouldn't bet against an LTE phone.

Another related question: will Apple allow AT&T to market a HSPA+ iPhone as 4G?

4G would play in nicely if it's an iPhone 4S...

I don't know what they're going to do about naming or marketing, but I'd think it would be dual band and that's going to show the real difference between HSPA+ (which AT&T and T-Mobile market as 4G) and CDMA (slow 3G) on Verizon.

The sixth iPhone will likely use the MDM9615 chip which supports LTE (FDD and TDD), DC-HSPA+, EV-DO Rev-B and TD-SCDMA.

The one in the current Verizon iPhone is the MDM6600 which is dual band and just might be reused in the 5: http://www.qualcomm.com/news/releas...ls-new-roadmap-gobi-connectivity-technologies

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they went iPhone 4 > iPhone 4S > iPhone 4G.

Also, I just realized WWDC and E3 start the same day. June 6th is going to EXPLODE.

Aww, does that mean no WWDC thread?

Apple keynote starts halfway through the MS E3 keynote on the Monday. Madness

I'm gonna have so many damn browser windows open... I'll probably use the iPad as a dedicated live stream for the apple stuff. (if they stream)

Im gonna have to get a bag of cheetos to compete the mega nerd package that day

I really wonder how they're going to do it. Both iOS and OS X at the same time? That would possibly run long and lose people's interest. Google divided up Chrome and Android. I know in the past couple of years they've focused only on iOS during the keynote, but they've got Lion coming up... I guess if Apple doesn't reveal new hardware, that frees up some time.

Well, my guess is that since this is WWDC Apple can present something that is slightly more technical or nerdy and not worry about losing the crowd (they won't go too techy since this is still a press friendly event, of course)

So, yeah, I think they'll split up lion and iOS segments with iOS getting the bulk of the time since it'll be a fresh reveal. Most of these keynotes are 90 minutes but last year's WWDC was two whole hours as they revealed the iPhone 4 plus had all those dev demos to lead things off.

And, as you said, with no hardware announcements, it allows them to focus on those two things.

I wonder how apple is going to handle that. Tmo and ATT market their HSPA+ as 4g so they would say the iphone is 4g. When the iPhone six comes out is Apple just going to be like, nah bro, 4g for real now.

Now that I purchased some things on the app store (via PC) it is asking for my credit card info on my iphone (it imported it all, minus the security code) when I'm trying to download free apps. Is there any way around this? I don't like having this info on my phone.

Well, jumping off this ship for a while. Had my phone stolen from me last night.

Not happy :/

That stinks. To me that would be like stealing my PC. So much personal data on it.

Yeah I know. I lock my shit up though, 4 digit pass code and that. Well, as much protection as that gives. Only thing that was logged in was my Dropbox and Evernote, as well as my emails, so prob going to change my passwords on those. Called my provider to block the SIM anyway, so that's not a total loss and I have all my phone numbers backed up to a tee on my laptop.

Shit happens. And I thought I was over my bad patch. Sigh.

I thought they upgraded the main servers for GAF? Are we still doing the OT shutdown?

Today, someone snatched an iPhone 4 from my girlfriend while she was on bus and ran away. She is blind. Fuck you, thief; pick on someone your own size!

Edit: I did install "Find my iPhone" for her but apparently it wasn't activated, according to MobileMe. Why can't it activate when I decided to install it and run it is beyond my reach.
Work with your local Apple store and the police department. It is a feature that can be remotely provisioned, but only in special circumstances.
humph...

I sometimes forget that the final season of The Wire went into production before the iPhone was released. I'd love to see a new season which acknowledges the new technology available. Smartphones contain so much personal information these days and it's very easy for interested people to steal all that.

The purported iPhone 5 case that gained popularity over the last few days has been removed from trading site Alibaba. The case obviously brought a large amount of attention to its manufacter so we don’t think the case was removed by choice. Prior to the iPad 2′s official announcement in March, many iPad 2 cases found on Alibaba revealed key features like its thinner design and FaceTime video cameras.

Those iPad 2 cases ended up being removed from Alibaba with the help of Apple’s legal team.
We’re not going to say for sure that Apple was behind the removal of the above iPhone 5 case, but it makes sense. Adding evidence to the legitimacy of this iPhone 5 case are purported iPhone 5 camera parts. These camera parts demonstrate a relocated LED camera flash, which is also noted on the above iPhone 5 case sample image.

Any ever had troubles connecting to Wifi? When I check the settings, it shows it's connected to my personal wifi network, however the Wifi icons don't appear near the reception icons and when trying download podcasts, I get that warning that I can't because I'm not connected? Totally contradictory to the Settings.

Anyone ever had similar issues?

Yeah I have. Usually I'll have to turn off wifi an turn it back on and it'll connect properly to the network. I think this happens when you leave the range of your wifi and return, for some reason the iPhone thinks it is connected but the signal bar tells you otherwise.

Man that blows. How'd it get stolen? No insurance?

Was literally a day off from going down the bank sorting out some details and getting insurance. :/ Had it in my to-do calender.

I'm not sure. I had blacked out, as I think my drink got spiked that night :/ All I remember is chasing after someone and tripping, as my side hurts right now, so I'm guessing someone took it from me at point blank. My friends were calling me from around 3am, and I was answering my phone and I said I was going to ask someone for directions or something, and that was the last they heard from me. Some other friends of mine found me wandering Oxford Street so I am fucking thankful they found me.

Still angry :/

The keynote is on the 6th. E3 doesn't start till the 7th. Did they close down the OT a day before last time?

The MS and Sony press conferences are on the 6th. MS starting an hour before Apple, actually.

I would hope that the server upgrades put in place this year means the OT can stay up during E3. either way, no one has heard anything official about the situation this year.

Damn. Guess we can use the iOS gaming thread then if OT does go down.
