SNK, hasn't been part of that business since their split with Aruze.
Not Pachinko, but Pachislot:

IIRC Playmore WAS entirely a pachinko/pachislot company before they bought the SNK intellectual properties. Plus they mentioned a few years back that they would shift their company focus to pachislot machines from Neo Geo games.

Not a surprising move, of course, the pachinko industry being supposedly bigger than the Japanese automobile industry and all. Plus they wouldn't have to worry about piracy.

I posted that as a joke. I havent played CVS to be honest. (Just 3 or 4 matches)
Ken and Violent Ken were badasses though

Come on, man. Seriously? Not even a little bit.

SNK had such a great opportunity to cash in with SvC and it feels as if they didn't even care. My understanding of their arrangement with Capcom was, they could each produce a certain number of games using the other company's license and reap all the profits of those titles... whereas CvS was a huge success, SvC bombed.

But Cardfighters Clash and Match of the Millenium were both better than CvS.

If I recall SVC was developed by the Garou team, however the product was rushed to the market and suffered from a lot of gameplay breaking bugs.

I personally thought SNK's take on the classic Capcom characters design wise was very cool for the hardware it was running on. Too bad they did not have the time to really polish the gameplay, and make it into an amazing product.

Cardfighters Clash (the first one) maybe if you're a card collecting lover, but most people would agree that CvS was a better game overall.

Match of the Millenium was also by Capcom... I just sort of grouped them together. They were both successful.

No, Match of the Millenium was developed by SNK for the Neo Geo Pocket.

I have to agree that the original designs were more appealing to me as well.

Weird.

Man, Ryo's design is one they just can't nail. I agree with the outfit in the original design, but his face/head looks jacked in both. Then again, I've always thought something was off about him in KOF.

Perdew said:
Match of the Millenium was amazing and definitely had a cult community around it. Don't be ignorant. No other portable fighter compares, and it blows away 90% of the console ones, too!

Even the 'Olympic' mini games were great.

IGN agrees! http://gameboy.ign.com/articles/162/162975p1.html

The fact that you say "cult" community is pretty much all I need to hear. I won't try to argue the actual quality of the game because I've never played it. I can honestly say that it was hardly a commercial success, though, which is what I'm basing the general term "success" on. Capcom made a lot of money off of the agreement and made widely distributed titles. SNK... not so much.

But you replied to me when I was talking about the quality of the games...

Oh well, still one of the best fighters. You should go ebay it.

Yeah. But in XII he looks the best since AOF1. He looked half decent in 94 and 95 and after that they made him look like a complete fuckwit.

Oh and for people's info. That XII Ryo beta design. Don't you remember it? It's the same Mr. Karate from Neo Geo Battle Colliseum. The same one. And it sucked in motion. The new one is way better, even if Ryo looks little like Geese now. :lol

Btw. The proto designs might look better at first glance but after actually playing XII I'm kind of glad they changed them up. It's hard to say, but the impression I have is that if they used the proto designs then the game would feel way too much like the old versions and I don't think they were aiming for it with the whole re-birth thing !

Take Athena for example. I hated the character since forver and in kof XII I must say I actually like her. There's no panty shots in this one and you can say she even looks kind of cute without feeling like a pedophile. Earlier Athena looked older, but also looked like she came out of cheap hentai episode. New Athena looks like from 70-ties anime show for kids, maybe even from Miyazaki movie. I like that better.

Oh, so that's what Fersis actually meant to say. Thanks for the heads up.

SvC Chaos is right up (down?) there with Shaq Fu, Rise of the Robots, and that crappy digitized 3D0 fighter in terms of being unplayable garbage.

What was so bad about it? I really don't remember. I recall playing it for a little, and found it nowhere near that level of bad. Surely that's an exaggeration.

RE: 2002UM -- has Ignition talked about a PS2 release at all? I'd prefer that to the XBLA one next year simply because you know they'll cut stuff from the download release again like they did with 98UM.

I think it would have to be different with 2002UM, since there is no PCM soundtrack and there are no original 2D backgrounds in the game.

2k2 UM has been planned for US release for a while. PS2/XBLA.

I know the next KOF on SNK's schedule is supposed to be XI UM, which I could look forward too- if they balance the damn game out. Good game that needed a lot of tweaking.

Source on this?

What do you guys think of kof 2003? I really enjoyed that game... I loved how you could switch your characters in and out. Plus it was fun with friends at the arcades. :)

It was okay, and XI pretty much destroys it.

Ignition doesn't have jack shit to do with what SNK does with their games. It's nice see that Ignition is "passing things along," but in the end it unfortunately means nothing.

I have it, it's perfectly playable. The issue I suppose is the lack of balance among the fighters. It's an okay fighting game.

Long lasting publisher for kofs on 2 continents means nothing?

They're basicly snk for the west. They are close.

Well... the publisher is the one who can say : Ok, take this money. The DLC is going to be free.
Hey i was joking about the comment about CVS. I didnt play it more than 3 or 4 times

No, SNK USA is (was? lol) SNK (for the States, anyway). Ignition is just a publisher. They don't have any say or input over what happens with these games.

And didn't some of the PS2 English releases have some content removed, plus no 480p support? :lol

Yes they do.
Its all about the kind of relationship they have. Which looks to be a little more than :Ok ,give me that build and ill sell it. No question asked.
Anyway, this week can be the week !!!! KOFXII for Fersis! Wooooooooooooooo !!

It's great that they are giving SNK Japan feedback. Really.

AGAIN FOR THOSE WHO DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH WELL, WHATEVER IGNITION SAYS HAS NO BEARING ON WHAT SNK PLAYMORE DOES OR DOES NOT DO WITH THEIR OWN GAMES.

This should not be difficult to understand. Ignition didn't make those patches that came out, SNK did. SNK will be the ones who decide what DLC hits and what does or does not get fixed.

SNK USA lol. If not for Ignition, non japanese gamers would get jack shit from snk since ages. Thanks to them people still remember SNK.

What was removed?

Fersis said:

If they did, they would have told them to finish KOF XII before releasing it as barebones as they did so they wouldn't be in this position to begin with. If Ignition wants to be dragged down with SNKP, more power to them. :lol

I think it's just you guys in Europe. :lol SNK USA was trying to make a comeback in the States for a little while there. That Ben Herman guy had a bit of a presence.

I don't quite remember what got removed (I was in Japan for the years those PS2 games came out), but I believe in some games ending content was taken out, and like I said, they removed progressive scan for whatever stupid reason.

Ok... why the fuck did you post the sprite comparison?

I want the old sprites now!!!! :/

Ryo looks like Mr. Karate and I FUCKING LOVE IT! Like Father, Like Son! He also has white hair, shows the aging.

Athena looks a bit older yet still having that high-school girl charm.

Clark/Ralf/Leona look sooo very awesome! No more excessive weight gain! The outfit also looks awesome. Love the classic look!

GODDAMN! What's with them changing sprites? First it was SSF2THD and now this... :(

Dunno bout you, but KOf XI was published by SNK USA... Sam Sho Anthology was by Crave. Try harder. SNK fans imported anyway.

Fersis is the biggest fanboy in this thread, bar none. He outright refuses to acknowledge anything negative relating to KOF XII. Maybe that will change he actually plays the game. :P

Count me in when the game hits 20 dollars or on sale (less than $60) or when the DLC hits... I am a bit low on cash right now with the following games that are about to release:

Assassin's Creed II
Street Fighter IV Dash
and games that I would like to get:
ICO
Gundam games...

As for KOF2003, I never knew it was based on SvsC:Choas... I liked it because it was just fun and fast... I finally thought they moving towards the MOTW storyline in KOF games... Hoping to see Rock in the game against Terry and then joining him. Instead they reverted back to FF story base. :(

PS: I like the old spirits... Its as if they were canon storywise... In contrast to what we got was like something along the lines of a dream match...

Gray Fox and Fersis live in the video game wasteland known as "TEH YUROP." Gotta forgive them for that. ;)

I never heard that KOF 2003 was based on SvC Chaos, and it certainly did not feel that way to me. NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, on the other hand, is clearly based on SvC Chaos, but was actually a good game!

If you want Rock in a KOF game, play Maximum Impact. It really is too bad Regulation A never made it outside of Japan. :/

I don't even consider them a KOF game because its just like SF EX series non canon...

PS: I liked SF EX series. :)

LOL, canon in fighting games. Play the games because you like the characters/game play, not because of story (that tends to make no sense anyway).

A quality fighting game, but let's not go overboard and use IGN as a credible source. :p Match of the millenium was a solid game indeed, but it never got tested to the point where you could say it was truly a quality fighting game(no one played it).

Soul calibur also got a couple of perfect score and it's not even half as good as SF III:3rd strike. The first SC didn't stand the test of time and it's nowhere near as great as "critics" rated it.3rd strike received ok reviews and it's a true timeless classic.10 years in the arcades and it's still played fairly often,to the point where's there a good arcade scene for it in Japan. If it's re-released for XBLA or PSN,watch as critics will now say: legendary fighting game finally hit psn/xbla.

Good interview, but the impression I got from it is that Shane wants things to move forward, but it's ultimately up to SNK and how "generous" they feel like being. I think it'd be much more comforting to hear something, anything, from SNK itself so that people who bought this game don't feel completely abandoned.
