The most disappointing hyped AAA game this generation?

if Halo 5 is a bad game then 90% of this generations FPS games are bad games... because it is better than 90% of them, easily... including every single Call of Duty released this generation... except maybe Modern Warfare reboot, which is alright.
and the reticle not being 2/3 down is by far the least of Halo 5's issues lol.

Halo 5 is a bad Halo game, just like Halo 4 was... but better compared to almost any shooter on the market, except for Titanfall 2, Doom 2016 and maybe Wolfenstein
Those three you mentioned aren't really anything I would consider especially good. Halo 5 is easily among the worst FPS games I played, right next to such wonderful things like Battlefield 3 or Black Ops 3. Any Call of Duty (except BO3) I have played (and I played plenty) is far superior to all the mentioned games. There have been some pretty good FPS games this gen, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Star Wars Battlefront 2 (multiplayer only), Rainbow Six Siege, Battlefield 1, Shadow Warrior 2, TitanFall 1 and a few more.

Boring environments besides Sanghelios

People keep saying that and when I bought Halo 5 I was expecting something awesome. What the hell is so special about Sanghelios? Literally just brown rocks and then a small covenant fort in the middle of the ocean. It is literally nothing. I don't understand why that was hyped and not the cool Space Elevator climb, because that was genuinely the only good memorable part of the game.

This is another one. i still think the PS2 battlefront is better

Lol it isn't. Try to play it again today. The very first one is better than the original second but current second is by far the best Star Wars Battlefront. They really did a ton of work on it and right now it sits at a fantastic place. I haven't had so much fun with Star Wars Battlefront since the original.

Tie between Death Stranding, Spiderman, and that last Tomb Raider game.

Death Stranding was boring and I was just happy to be supporting Kojima..game sucks ass to me

Spiderman is one of the easiest plats i ever got on its hardest difficulty. Plus that combat system is so corny now imo

And that last Tomb Raider game was just corny as hell and it felt super lazy like they mailed it in. Look great on my bigass tv but it was a trash game.

Witcher 3, Breath of the Wild, Fallout 4 - 76, Anthem, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Metro Last Light, Spiderman, every single Far Cry game

number 1 trash being Watch Dogs

Mass Effect Andromeda. Not even close for me. Never have I been so disappointed in a franchise I originally thought could do me no wrong. This is the game that taught me never to preorder.

Zombies were bullet sponges, are you joking? What do you think Resident Evil was? You obviously were never around or didn't play the original. The Remake was kept as close to the original as you can get and for good reason because they were some of the best horror games ever created for their time!
In the original you cant aim to the head.
In the remake you can and you still needs from 2-3 to 5-6 headshot for a single zombie.
Yeah i know that if you stabilize the aim you can improve the weapon damage, but zombie has to go down with a single bullet to the head or it just feel wrong or bullet spongy.
The ideal was having more zombies at screen at the same time to balance that.

Probably Prey.

Before the official announcement there was leaks saying a new Prey would be revealed.

Instead we got a "reimagined reboot" or whatever you want to call it that had no relation to the amazing original game. They essentially killed one of my favorite IPs.

Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey. They turned them into gaas grindfests and made me want to drop the series for good (and I've been following it since AC1).

For me it's MK11. Just not enough combo potential. It was made known it wasn't going to be as combo heavy as MK10, but I took that to mean combos wouldn't be as extensive. I didn't know there wouldn't be any type of variety. Here is your launcher and here is your string that the game allows to connect with it.

All the "big" Fighting Game franchises... be it Tekken, SF, MK, Injustice... microtransaction riddled shitfests with multiple season passes and disgusting in game monetizations.

For me the division is one of my biggest purchase regrets, anthem as well, only put an hour or 2 into either... Guess I'm not into the looter shooters...

Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain

Game starts so great, and then gets dumb and there's an ending out of nowhere

Hahaha what
This is not unusual. I enjoyed GTA5 myself (although it's definitely not my favorite one), but I know at least a few people who didn't enjoy the storyline or didn't care for / hated the characters. The only thing that's very hard to argue with is how realistic and detailed world Rockstar has created.

Also let's not forget that abandoning all sp plans in favor of the online mode can also be very disappointing. ;)

Anthem. It had a great potential but unfortunately they killed their game by themselves

Tried to give it plenty of chances but ended up uninstalling

The only time I regret I backed something on Kickstarter...

Uncharted 4. Climb, climb, climb, oh here's some fucking crate. Now climb more. Watch shit story. Then some more climbing. Once you're all done we have a useless prologue for you, complete with torturous cinematic walking speed and plethora of nonsensical interest points that'll make you want to tear your eyes out. :messenger_pouting:

Death Stranding
Days Gone
Anthem
The Order 1886
Mass Effect 3
Just Cause 4
God of War (lastofusfied)
Fallout 76

Unpopular take of games that let me down for all the hype they got:

Uncharted 4
Borderlands 3
Arkham Tank (Knight)
Mass Effect 3
Bioshock Infinite

Mafia 3 was trash, wasn't really even a "mafia" game so there's that. Anthem was brutal as well. The Order was another one, that was the biggest scam of the gen. It was done in six hours and was purely made for eye candy.

Anthem :(, i tried so hard to like it. Theres was a moment, a cool cutscene that introduced us to a few characters and then a major fight started (could be a cool moment, gameplay wise), them the game teleported us outside and a generic battle (that happenened 343943949394 times already) started all over again, nothing new happened, after that i QUIT, extremelly disapointed.

Sorry about my english.

I gotta admit I kinda feel that way too. But I just didn't care to play it anymore after the first few hours. So I'll reserve that my opinion could change if I play it for more than 5 hours but ... I'm not going to. Deleted it pretty quickly.

Pretty sure Afro a Republican didn't even play Anthem tho. Reads like it.

And yea Anthem is a huge disappointment. 7 years of dev time to create a game that's 1/3rd the size of Vanilla Destiny 1 and no endgame, shit loot and builds.

I did enjoy it for a solid 20 hours tho... but the issue is that's where it ends. And still somehow manages to be a better game that the abomination that is the Halo 5 campaign.

Halo 5 is easily the worst AAA budgeted shooter campaign of all time. The Conduit on the Wii was better.

Tough argument to make.

Halo 5 was #8 on NPD in 2015 and was the best selling exclusive on NPD that year.

GOW was #8 on NPD in 2018 and was the 3rd best selling exclusive on NPD that year.

Horizon Zero Dawn
I thought we'd get a true open world monster hunter type game. Instead we got a reskinned ass creed with some regressive nonsense thrown in for good measure

In order of most disappointing:
1. Breath of the Wild
2. Final Fantasy XV
3. MGSV
4. The announcement of Half-Life Alyx being a VR game

Mass Effect 3 - Couldn't believe how disappointing this was compared to 2. 2 is up there with one of my favorite games ever and ME3 completely drops the ball and ultimately marks the start of Bioware's downfall. (Multiplayer was fun though)
Dragon Age Inqusition - After seeing glowing praise and people saying it's more like Dragon Age Origin got me hype. But again another stinker for me. The characters and story were pretty unappealing and I ultimately dropped the game.
Wolfenstein II The New Colossus - Gameplay and story were super unappealing. After coming off of Doom 2016 (my goty), I thought this would be more of the same, I was sorely mistaken.

Probably Prey.

Before the official announcement there was leaks saying a new Prey would be revealed.

Instead we got a "reimagined reboot" or whatever you want to call it that had no relation to the amazing original game. They essentially killed one of my favorite IPs.
I don't think it's a bad reboot at all... It is a very interesting concept. Not only the world itself, but more importantly, how the game makes the player face himself...

As for the most disappointing AAA game this gen... I can't pick. To me, this is probably the most disappointing gen as a whole.

Every Football Manager title since 2013. They have only ever succeed in adding new layers of complexity and reshuffling all the menus without fixing their oftentimes pants match AI systems and unrealistic results.. and persistent reliance on randomly selected preset game plots (I'm sorry but the obvious fabrication of certain dramatic underdog turn-arounds or big game collapses in spite of perfectly tuned teams wore old in my 2000th hour in the series) has turned me off their full price cost for almost a decade now.

Why would you say that?

I've absolutely got my own reasons for not loving it, i can get you there, but i still completed it and enjoyed doing so.. what undercut it so hard for you?

Well, firstly, you have to bare in mind that MGS is my favorite game series and one of my favourite entertainment franchises in general. My hype was through the roof for V.

And not just on the basis it was another MGS. I loved GZ and the promises of Kojima that we'd be getting a darker entry. The trailers were insanely good and sold the idea that this was Big Boss' downfall. Add in that we thought Liquid, Mantis. Ocelot and Volgin (basically all my favorite characters) were also gonna have a prominent role and it sounded like the perfect MGS.

Obviously the final game was nothing like the story we were promised, how could it be considering who we were playing as. There was barely any narrative and almost all the cutscenes were spoiled in the various trailers. There was nothing even that dark or controversial in the final product. None of the characters that I mentioned above even had a major role or any kind of character development. We learned next to nothing new about them.

I don't really care that the story never got a real ending because it wasn't going anywhere anyway. Add in the needless open world and pretty shallow, repetitive objectives and it just wasn't that great of an MGS game. The only part that even felt like MGS was the prologue.

Anthem was/is the biggest shit ever, but I expected it and did not buy it so I wasn't really disappointed in that way of sense.
