My relatives in Hong Kong do not sit that close to their TV, nor do my relatives in Japan.Probably Japan, where this sort of cord set up is more fitting for the general set up of an asian living space.

Shit, people were returning their Wii U's due to poor range on the gamepad... How is this any different?

Re: Extension cables
10' extension cable sold and shipped by Amazon, $9.99
Biggest issue, obviously, is that it's a pre-order and doesn't release until three weeks after the NES Classic does. But it's also far and away the longest extension cable I've found so far (and the only one that comes in black). The majority I've seen are 1m/3ft, and that just isn't going to cut it for me.
Are you sure that's why people were returning the Wii U.
Are you really sure.
I can think of a lot of other, more sensible reasons why someone would return a Wii U.
Sure there were other reasons, but that was one of them. Say what you want about the Wii U, but it was a great system with some really fantastic games. Either way, vote with your dollar. I, personally, am not going to buy this because of the cord issue. I am sure a lot of other people will be doing the same.
Half of the people on this gaming enthusiast forum were just gonna buy this casual market product for the novelty of having it on display, I don't think the cord thing will ultimately change their minds about it.
I was talking about more of the general population. There were a ton of people I knew that were excited when they heard about this, will have to see what happens. Obviously the people in this forum will know what they are getting into, and get prepared and buy extension cords if they need them. It is a casual market product, I just don't see it going over well for the casual customers.
I think Nintendo expects players to keep the console on their laps while they play
This is why I'm worried about switch , Nintendo always has to mess things up somehow
I keep hearing the controller cord is short b/c you have to be able to access the reset button on the actual console to switch games... why couldn't they have put a home botton on the controller?
You don't. Just buy an extension cable.
If that's the excuse, then it's pathetic. Like someone posted earlier, you had to get up with the original console to power it off, change games etc. They didn't make the cord <1m back then.I keep hearing the controller cord is short b/c you have to be able to access the reset button on the actual console to switch games... why couldn't they have put a home botton on the controller?
wowTo give you an idea of real-world use, here's the NES Classic hooked up to a (32", I think) TV using all of the included cables. I'm powering it off of the TV's USB plug, to show best-case distance (as in, not having to have the power cable reach to an outlet in another location).
Best-case scenario I think is either going to be playing at a desk, or putting the unit on a coffee table between you and the TV if things are all close enough. Or, you know, getting longer cables / cable extenders. Of course, extending the controller cord's length makes it harder to use the Reset button, which you may be using quite a bit.

The price of one Nes Classic every trillion Nes Classics sold.Honest question, how much would it have cost them to double the length of the cord?
saw a video of a youtuber playing on it. it seems that you need to press the reset button to get back to the menu from the game. I would not be surprised if this is connected to having the short controller cable.
Just use a classic controllerThe home button is on the console not the controller, guess staying true to the original > Common sense.
Just use a classic controller
The home button works
it looses it charm.
I like the fact it "reset" function is on the console..
Feels more like actually changing games![]()
Plus, I think it becomes just inconvenient enough to use save states that they're there when you need them for whatever reason, but it curbs the compulsion to do any sort of scumming.
It's pretty mind blowing that they can create hardware that's so innovative and at the same time so fundamentally crippled. It's not like they're new to the game or anything. This is why I'm worried about switch , Nintendo always has to mess things up somehow
It seems like Nintendo often makes products where you have to purchase something additional to make it function the way it should've out of the box.
It seems like people will blindly defend Nintendo because they're Nintendo instead of showing any resistance to some of their laughably bad design decisionsIt seems like people will say any old thing about Nintendo to make themselves seem less interested in what Nintendo does
Correct. It seems like Nintendo often makes products where you have to purchase something additional to make it function the way it should've out of the box.
It's made for hdmi; so I'm not sure..Hm I have a CRT TV that doesn't have hdmi inputs that I use for all my pre X360/PS3 consoles that has a closer setup. I wonder if I did buy a NES classic if it would setup better there. I'd need to buy a hdmi to component adapter
Yea the more I think about it I'll just wait until the Switch. This emulator BETTER be in for the Switch and it'll be a device that is made for actual living room design. Plus I basically own all the games on the list for Wii/U just not as good of an emulationIt's made for hdmi; so I'm not sure..
