The NES Classic Edition Controller Cord Seems Exceedingly Short

Shit, people were returning their Wii U's due to poor range on the gamepad... How is this any different?

Are you sure that's why people were returning the Wii U.

Are you really sure.

I can think of a lot of other, more sensible reasons why someone would return a Wii U.

My relatives in Hong Kong do not sit that close to their TV, nor do my relatives in Japan.

The 3 houses I airbnb'd in must be weirdos then.

Re: Extension cables

10' extension cable sold and shipped by Amazon, $9.99

Biggest issue, obviously, is that it's a pre-order and doesn't release until three weeks after the NES Classic does. But it's also far and away the longest extension cable I've found so far (and the only one that comes in black). The majority I've seen are 1m/3ft, and that just isn't going to cut it for me.

This honestly seems like a good compromise for me. Not happy about needing to pay another $20 (one for each controller), but I'll live.

Sure there were other reasons, but that was one of them. Say what you want about the Wii U, but it was a great system with some really fantastic games. Either way, vote with your dollar. I, personally, am not going to buy this because of the cord issue. I am sure a lot of other people will be doing the same.

I remember being surprised with how short the cord was on the extra Genesis controller that Sega packed in with console some years. They would give you one normal controller with a cord that was over 6 feet and then the second controller wasn't fully painted and had a cord that was less than 3 feet long. PlayerTwo had to sit on the ground right next to the TV while playerOne could sit comfortably on the couch. Nintendo is putting both people on the floor.

It seems like the NES Classic will work fine if you are sitting at a desk. Maybe it was meant as an office desk toy instead of a home console.

Half of the people on this gaming enthusiast forum were just gonna buy this casual market product for the novelty of having it on display, I don't think the cord thing will ultimately change their minds about it.

I was talking about more of the general population. There were a ton of people I knew that were excited when they heard about this, will have to see what happens. Obviously the people in this forum will know what they are getting into, and get prepared and buy extension cords if they need them. It is a casual market product, I just don't see it going over well for the casual customers.

Might have to pick up an extension cable if I can find one for cheap from Canada.....

If I open mine.

Something tells me a lot of stores are gonna be selling extension cord bundles to maximize their profit anyhow. And they'll be like "Well that's convenient!"

I think Nintendo was too literal with the NES Classic Mini lol.

Yeah, I sat close to my TV with my original NES as a wee lad, but I have a nice mounted Plasma these days.

I keep hearing the controller cord is short b/c you have to be able to access the reset button on the actual console to switch games... why couldn't they have put a home botton on the controller?

This is an awful excuse if Nintendo really used it. I'd much rather get up, walk a few feet and press a button when I'm done playing a game rather than sit directly in front of a huge TV.

If that's the excuse, then it's pathetic. Like someone posted earlier, you had to get up with the original console to power it off, change games etc. They didn't make the cord <1m back then.

Okay, one last crosspost of the console in a real world type situation.

To give you an idea of real-world use, here's the NES Classic hooked up to a (32", I think) TV using all of the included cables. I'm powering it off of the TV's USB plug, to show best-case distance (as in, not having to have the power cable reach to an outlet in another location).

Best-case scenario I think is either going to be playing at a desk, or putting the unit on a coffee table between you and the TV if things are all close enough. Or, you know, getting longer cables / cable extenders. Of course, extending the controller cord's length makes it harder to use the Reset button, which you may be using quite a bit.

wow

saw a video of a youtuber playing on it. it seems that you need to press the reset button to get back to the menu from the game. I would not be surprised if this is connected to having the short controller cable.

Why'd they have to make the cable shorter than the original? Insanity.

If you want reset, you get your ass up off the damn couch.

The home button is on the console not the controller, guess staying true to the original > Common sense.

it looses it charm.
I like the fact it "reset" function is on the console..
Feels more like actually changing games :)

Plus, I think it becomes just inconvenient enough to use save states that they're there when you need them for whatever reason, but it curbs the compulsion to do any sort of scumming.

So true! It's like having a fast forward buttons on your controller takes away all the fun!

The controller having a non detachable cord is a serious deal breaker for me.

Seriously, what was Nintendo thinking?

Guess I'll stick to emulators.

This is why I'm worried about switch , Nintendo always has to mess things up somehow
It's pretty mind blowing that they can create hardware that's so innovative and at the same time so fundamentally crippled. It's not like they're new to the game or anything.

It seems like Nintendo often makes products where you have to purchase something additional to make it function the way it should've out of the box.

It seems like people will say any old thing about Nintendo to make themselves seem less interested in what Nintendo does

It seems like people will blindly defend Nintendo because they're Nintendo instead of showing any resistance to some of their laughably bad design decisions

Correct.

This is fucking ridiculous...
But... even now the fans are still defending this piece of shit length....

Laughable.

I love my NES Mini, but this is a design flaw; a big one :(

Hm I have a CRT TV that doesn't have hdmi inputs that I use for all my pre X360/PS3 consoles that has a closer setup. I wonder if I did buy a NES classic if it would setup better there. I'd need to buy a hdmi to component adapter

It's made for hdmi; so I'm not sure..
Yea the more I think about it I'll just wait until the Switch. This emulator BETTER be in for the Switch and it'll be a device that is made for actual living room design. Plus I basically own all the games on the list for Wii/U just not as good of an emulation

Might have already been asked and answered but is there an adapter or something to use the original NES controllers?
