The NXE Launch Thead - Nov 19th at 10am GMT

Might want to put a section in the OP about 16:10 PC monitor support, the black bars (letterboxing), and what people can expect. In the other threads people kept asking about that over and OVER again because they figured the 360 would actually output native 16:10 after the update.

I love Astrolad :lol

I installed Banjo and I'm not finding "little to no" load times, but it's definitely smoother than streaming off the disk.

Shit man, my paltry 20 gig's gonna get ganked. I'm only going to be able to install whatever one game I'm playing at the time that benefits the most until I upgrade. Fallout 3 it is.

Ninja Gaiden 2 install sounds dope as hell though.

I've got Fallout 3 & Dead Space installed, with a couple of small XBLA games and 2 videos.

I can't wait.

I know people bitch and complain about console games needing patches or having a patch on day-one but it the ability to patch the machine and in this case totally rewrite the OS/reskin the OS which makes me feel more at home (as an ex-PC gamer).

I'm a little worried that with subsequent patches the console will take a lot longer to download updates (I love that currently an update takes no more than 10 seconds to apply).. I just hope their patching system will still work for NXE.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to delete all of my XBLA games (except MM9, Bionic Commando, and Ikaruga) and download 'em again later on down the road whenever I upgrade.

Just got a 120gb hdd in preparation for this. Circuit City is selling them for $99 so go there if you couldnt find one at Target. This was at a CC location that is NOT closing, btw.

Damn transfer is taking 1 hour and 10 minutes. I want to install some games already. I only had 5.8 GB free on my 20 gig too. That's with NO demos or videos downloaded. Crazy. Damn XBLA and Rock Band tracks.

This update is so revolutionary it has inspired me to completely change my personality and attitude towards life... basically a new xbhaskarx experience to better compliment the New Xbox Experience.

How much space is needed to install Fallout 3? I managed to clear about 5gigs on my POS 0.01kb HDD, so I guess I can live with one game at a time for now :|

Still have 80 GB of space so I'll be installing all the games I'm playing. Really excited about that feature.

For the people with Netflix, is it their whole selection?

Whole selection of DVDs? Not even close. If it were, the service would cost a lot more than $8.99/mo.

There's lots of TV shows, a decent selection of movies, and a lot of documentaries.

1) Sign up at Netflix.com. Give them a fake US address. It has to be valid though.
2) Sign up at Entropay.com. Use that virtual VISA card to pay for Netflix
3) Open up a US Xbox Live Account (Silver is fine)
4) Sign in on 360, go to video section, download Netflix application.
5) Open app. Choose to use a gold account. Select your main account. Get activation code.
6) Find proxy, go online to www.netflix.com/activate
7) Stay on proxy, add titles on website.
8) They pop up IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES.

ok, i have to say i'm taken kinda aback by some of these responses on a gaming forum where people are known for taking time off of work for other "megaton"-type events like mgs 4, gta iv, excetera. maybe the reaction would be normal from my non-gamer co-workers (not that i would tell them, or that they would even understand what i was talking about), but from gaf it's a bit disappointing to say the least.

so maybe i should explain my reasoning for getting up at the asscrack of dawn and taking a few (three, not five) days off:
-NETFLIX: i will probably spend a solid afternoon just catching up on movies and shows that i've been to lazy to order from netflix in physical form. you just can't beat the convenience factor here.
-AVATARS: yeah ok it's "lame" in the eyes of the so-called hardcore. whatever. i think it's cool as hell. i never felt "lame" buying avatar packs and multiple themes to switch up my visual style, and this looks to be even a hundred times better than that, so the argument is a moot point.
-PARTY SYSTEM: nothing wrong with spending a few hours catching up with old friends scattered around the country. will make playing gears and halo that much more fun--easier to jump from game to game like sony has been promising (and not delivering) since forever.
-HARD DRIVE LOADING: going to literally breathe new life into long-forgotten games with improved performance, etc.

and that's just the tip of the icebird. let's just say i wouldn't be surprised if there are a few "surprises" in store on release day to please the hardcore fans that have been dying for this update since, well, forever....

bro, stop spending so much time/money on games and get an education.
can't believe you exist.

That's actually a lie. It told me like 1 hr 20, and after 20 minutes just zoomed to the end.

That's bullshit, unfortunately. Still plenty of load times in Banjo, but they are definitely shorter. I have a shit DVD drive, as well, so it's smoothed out the framerate a lot for me (as it has done with other disc-intensive games like FIFA 09.)

Hype -9 :(

91.7GB to install my entire collection, which isn't all that bad. More likely than not I won't install my entire collection because I'm not playing my entire collection right now but I do plan on installing Rock Band 2 as soon as the update is on my HDD because the 360's noise is a problem when playing a music game.

Anyone else as excited about this as I am? I so cannot wait for tomorrow morning.

The biggest thing for me with installs is that I'm hoping it basically saves my 360 from ever getting the RROD.

I've got a launch one and it's broken down only once and I'm pretty sure it was just a fan that had died. I lied to MS and told 'em it had red ringed cuz my warranty had expired and I wasn't trying to come out of pocket. I even got back my original 360--which tells me again it was something relatively simple that had screwed up. *knocks on wood*

So yeah, installs are essentially lifelines, like old folks finally getting a grandkid. :D

I'm confused as to when we get this in Australia.

I figured it would be today (It's already Wednesday the 19th here) so I tried this morning, no go.

The Xbox.com.au website says the 20th, but then Xbox sends a message to my console saying 19th.

But then the OPs world clock thing says 9pm tonight which sounds about right because that's when we get our arcade games.

FUCK!

Hmm, looks like they're making some changes to the Marketplace now.

All New Arrivals is now right back at the front of Game Marketplace, and there are now dedicated options for Themes and Gamer Pictures.

They're listening to us. :D

We need the install game size thread linked somewhere. I think that'd be useful information.

And notes about loading times

Argos have them for £90 as well, if they have any in-stock locally then you can go and pick one up.

I'm certainly interested, but the reports have suggested that loading times for many of the more troublesome games aren't improved. Dead Rising could have used a boost, for instance, but it actually ends up loading slower at points. Here's hoping Sonic Unleashed sees an improvement as the previews thus far have demonstrated lengthy load times.

I really need to pick up one of those 120gb HDDs...

The NXE is great but its functionality is going to be gimped for people with only the 20gb drive, especially if you plan on using game installs which is one of the best features IMO.

I upgraded to 120gb for this, got a good deal at a Circuit City that was closing down. I had been looking at the new and cheaper 60gb HDD, but that appears be aimed at Arcade upgraders and so has no transfer cable. What I'd like to see is a 60gb HDD with a transfer cable aimed at people who want the full functionality of the NXE, or at least a drop in price of the 120gb unit to something that isn't so much of an insult. Sell it as an "NXE kit" and make a killing.

Not only is the NXE a great way to have a mid-life relaunch of the console, its also a great tool to sell a buttload of new accessories and peripherals!

Retailers must be loving all of this.

I wish the X360 HDDs weren't bullshit. I'd be so happy if we could install our own HDDs and at a bigger size than 120 GB. I dont have enough space to install all my games, although it'd be unnecessary but still...I dont want to worry about what games I have installed later on

How's the Divx codec and Xvid codec support? Still the same? If you hook up your usb HDD will it do something nice with jpeg' that share the same name as the video's on it? I can't wait.
