I have a Z5050 set and sound has been BRUTALLY improved, my god, when the first fucking meteorite went through my rear speakers I was like "WTF is that!!!", it says DTS on my receiver.

Downloaded the demo 2weeks ago & fell in love with it. I just bought the full version last weekend, didn't have time to fully played it. But so far...

I use the Z-5500, is there really that much difference between DD and DTS? I've never noticed a big difference either way in movies. Well, I'll take your word for it. :)

IIRC

And the implication is there will be another expansion since the current one is called SSHD Solo.

The expansion is awesome though. SSHD is by far and away the best PSN title IMO.

It's not such a huge difference, but DTS has higher bitrate and less compression, the sound is definitely better than DD5.1

I also think the actual sound positioning code in SSD have been improved for this update. It does sound pretty damn great.

Yes, there will be another add-on, for multiplayer.

Don't understand Bomber mode? Here's how to play it:

Just to put some words to what chubigans is showing: Think of Bomber mode like an escort mission. Well, a suicide escort mission.

As much as possible find and stay close to the bomb ship. Since bombs are your only weapon in this mode, the ideal is always take out a bomb ship when you drop a bomb, because then you get two bombs in return and can keep growing your stock instead of depleting it.

Escort the bomb ship as long as you can, until the situation gets too hairy for you and then drop a bomb. Ideally, you want to be as close as possible to the bomb ship, either in front or behind it. Dropping a bomb to the side of a bomb ship doesn't guarantee that you force it to release both of it's bombs, unless you're really close.

I also like to let the red seeker mines do as much of my dirty work for me as possible. When they run into something on their own, you still get points for the destruction. It's a good way to clear out sections of the sphere or to get more bombs without using bombs of your own.

I would pay $10+ for an online co-op update.

Oh GOD yes! The sound is amazingly better. It sounds much more dynamic and its easy to distinguish where each individual sound is coming from (a feat for a game with so many objects on the screen). What is essentially a top down 2d shooter has better sound than a majority of the games on the market.

It also has technically better utilization of graphics than most big games I can think of. That amount of particle effects and polygons with HDR lighting at perfect 60FPS, and never a blurry texture to be seen - not to mention location based volumetric destruction of asteroids. It's basically the perfect execution of the concept visually. I don't know what they could have done better given the viewpoint and gameplay concept.

Did SSDHD support rumble before the 3.0 update?

Because oh my god it's amazing!!! the controller throbs, crackles, and moves in the best possible ways.

I'll go try the new modes now.

Well we've known this for a long time since when the last update was released (the new version that was about half as big, and that europe got way before the US) the ingame store was displaying a multi and a solo add-on.

@kaching> thanks for the correction :)

yeah, I noticed local stats got erased. Wasn't really too bothered by it since it didn't affect leaderboard stats.

Mmmm weapon overload massages my hands.

Endless is so awesome and frantic.

How the fuck did someone get 1:50 in time attack, i though i did well with 7:26 :lol

Is there any info on what the multiplayer expansion pack will contain? I guess online co-op atleast?

Yeah I guess. But seeing how they managed to make awesome solo modes maybe we'll have even more awesome stuff for multi .

On another note, this game will NOT be lag friendly at all. I hope they'll manage to pull a rock solid netcode :lol

ok, thanks. it just kinda irks me as i have this tendency to love seeing how many hours i spend on games. oh well. i had around 35 hours before this update.:D

Okay, those red pyramid satellite things in Endless that just swarm you in seconds can just go to hell. :lol It seems that any time you blow up one of the nukes, it's a trade off -- you wipe out everything on screen, but then you're guaranteed to get either a meteor shower or a huge bunch of blue mines (and later, blue mines with red pyramids).

And yeah, how the living hell are people getting time attack scores under two minutes?!

Ye, i think (or atleast hope) that the multiplayer expansion pack will have some extra stuff than just online co-op (well, i'm not sure that it actually will have online co-op, but i would be alittle suprised if it doesnt to be honest), but even if its only online co-op i will probly still buy the multiplayer expansion pack anyway :) I hope its not just some extra maps/modes etc. for offline co-op atleast. I tried to play alittle co-op with my little sister some time ago. I didnt like it that much due to the movement of the planet is different when its 2 ships, you cant move all around like if your playing single player, the 2nd player has to follow you as well (or vise versa) or else you cant move freely around on the planet. If you have tried to play offline co-op then maybe you know what i mean?

Ye, thats true, this game is not lag friendly at all. If they release online co-op it must be basicly lag free or else it will be very hard, atleast later on in the levels when the difficulty level is sometimes getting higher. I also hope that they will pull off a rock solid netcode if (and i hope) they release online co-op :)

I never noticed this in the base game - when white points powerups are just about to disappear, if you catch at just the last second, you get 50000 pts for them. Is that something new in Solo expansion, or was that there all along?

I can't speak for the alien from the planet highscore.

First off don't give a shit about what weapon powerup you get, you're garunteed to max them all out quickly.

Light blue powerups are your friends.

Bombs are your best friends (found it very hard to kick my bomb preservation habit from normal Arcade mode. :( )

Take out enemies asap.

Always be on the lookout for the satelite.

hello beatbox :p
I was 5th in Bomber mode when I finally turned my PS3 off last night :D
I find that I don't normally run out of bombs, I just lose concentration and hit an asteroid. Whenever you destroy the bomb carrrier ships try and follow them first and wait until you can cause as much damage as possible. It's occassionally possible to get 2 bomb carriers (4 bombs) with one bomb but most of the time you should be trying to get a bomb carrier and a large asteroid with a single bomb.

YES! I just got 3rd place on the Nemain Time Attack! Wooo HOO!! yay ok fine i know only like 500+ people have posted high scores for that. but i'm still proud to be just behind TLO-MEK and Efertlisdotcom, both of whom are always in the top 10. Does anyone know who TLO-MEK is btw?

oh and ya everyone, you need to try out time attack mode! i totally overlooked it at first as i usually dont like time attack gameplay modes in other games but it makes so much sense for SSHD. it so really fun to push yourself in this mode

is the addon and game itself gameshare-able? If so ill pay a friend tonight trough gamesharing and get the addon, have the game already but wirecard is blocked as you all know.
Wirecard is blocked from where? I use Wirecard (Have done pretty much since release) and haven't had any problems.

Entropay is another alternative that I know a lot of people have successfully used as well.

I bought this back at release but haven't played it nearly as much as I should, I'll be getting this later tonight (I assume it's up on the US store?).

3.0 update is presumably required to enable the Solo pack add-on. Don't know if it adds anything on it's own.

Also, people asking about Easy mode earlier. I played through once and it appears that differences are that it doesn't loop, it's just one playthrough of all five levels, and boss enemies appear to fire their bullets at a slightly slower rate. I don't think the enemy density or patterns are changed in any other way. It did generally seem easier, but there wasn't anything other than the boss bullet fire rate that seemed to have changed. The general perception of easiness may have just come from having played a few dozen rounds of Endless and Bomber over the past couple of days though which take the whole notion of batshit insane chaos to another level.

Easy mode seems to be completely slowed down as well. I played it once but I'm pretty sure all of the enemies move and shoot slower.

I knew it was seven minutes something. I've tried to forget it because I was so unnerving. I mean... how??

I think I've managed a 1.55ish. Not too shabby but ideally I'd like to be ranked above a thousand. After all, I'd always thought I was special. Cat-like-reflexes don't fail me now.

I've only managed 3mins myself, but if you press R1 on the high score table you can see how long it actually took them. I think the top score of 7mins actually took abou 3 mins, so they must be getting some huge time bonuses by boosting through the pick ups.
I'm up to 3rd in Bomber mode now :D

I think this is the main key as well, to boost through alot the time bonuses. If you manage to boost through 9 time bonuses you get 108 seconds (1 minute and 48 seconds) added to your time if i'm not mistaken. However, i dont know if its possible to get 9 time bonuses at the same time though, they dissapear after a while dont they?

Yep it's possible. The point icons do disappear so timing their destruction and trying to have them line up is key. A shield definitely helps but won't save your run if you don't get a few bonus boosts of 6-8 time icons. I think my best time is just under 7 minutes.

Ok, thanks for the info :) I will try to line up as many as i can. My best time on Survival mode is something like 3:20.
