The Zelda TP pre-launch NON-SPOILER thread (READ BEFORE YOU POSTTTT)

Draft said:
i like how every preview says, "the wii controls are alright. you get used to them." and there's good old ignMatt, practically fellating the nunchuck :lol

:lol Talk about reading only what you want to read.

Wait, so if the game is 70 hours WITHOUT doing all the sidequests, then....Amir0x = owned?

:D

they'll all pushing the hell out of the Wii version, its like the Gamecube version doesn't exist. and is something to just forget about. Nintendo Money Hats ?

im getting both, so it doesnt matter anyway (does anyone that's been waiting for the game since May 2004 really have a CHOICE? no IMO)..............

1UP:
Zelda's Wii controls have been greatly improved since E3, making the use of secondary weapons feel like second nature. Click the image above to check out all Twilight Princess screens. [...] Although the control scheme isn't entirely flawless, it allows for a level of precision and ease of use that's an encouraging surprise

GameDaily:
First off, the Wii mote control is fabulous. It's so intuitive and comfortable that it makes today's controllers (even the much heralded Xbox 360 game pad) feel archaic. The remote needs to be within range of it's sensor bar, and it's not uncommon to have to adjust it so that everything works in tandem, but for the most part, the remote is very flexible, allowing for on the lap as well as in the air play.

Seems a little better than "alright". Hell, I think we may even call those impressions "good". What do you say, Draft?

Here's more impressions from two more websites, but since they are Nintendo fan websites you'll probably just ignore them anyway:

GoNintendo:
I felt it was extremely important to get others viewpoints instead of just my own when it came to the Wii’s control success rate. The honest overall opinion of myself, and the journalists that I talked to is this. If you play Twilight Princess on the Cube, we feel that you are missing out on an amazing experience. [...] I just did what felt natural for what was going on in the game. Swinging the Wiimote and Nunchuck to perform Link’s attacks adds such a visceral experience to the game…it truly does further the entire Zelda experience. [...] Using the Wiimote to control Link’s sword attacks is just too much fun. It worked for me 100% of the time.

Planet Gamecube:
[some spoiler impressions] [...] The satisfying part is getting the lock-on with a moving target, and it's made much easier with the remote controller.

Well, bless my soul, Draft. I guess this means Matt's not the only one who seems positive on Wii controls.
yes there is positive and there is matt slobbing on the thing like a drunken coed. i dont think anyone believed nintendo was going to release the wii version with a broken control system but i also dont think matts HOLY ****ING SHIT WII CONTROLS SHIT ON GCN CONTROLS SHIT SHIT SHIT is all that enlightening or even accurate.

So, with this new information, how long do you estimate your personal playtime to be. I can't believe this estimate is coming from my mouth but with the amount of goofing around I'm sure to do I'm gona say............ 100 hours.

100?!!

That doesn't even seem real.

+1 for drunken coed analogy, though.

You should've just attempted a graceful exit from this thread...

just back from the movies.

which of the previews should i definitely read, for those who've checked out them all?

and let me just say, from what i've glanced at thus far:

awww yeahhhhh boyeeeee.

Draft said:
sorry i will only read the deliriously positive impressions in the future.

I'm getting the GC version but you're just being a delusional prick in this thread.

edit: good job editing your original post. maybe it really is time for you to leave the thread.

sometimes you realize your original post might be incorrect, overly antagonistic or otherwise disruptive. that's what the edit button is there for.

Are there any visual or content differences between the two versions? Or is it just controls and widescreen or whatever.

This is hard to say, since Nintendo has not shown the GameCube version to anyone since E3 2005, and will not show it again until it releases on December 13.

From what I've heard the GC version looks slightly worse than the Wii version. Wii can do better lighting and effects, but other than that it's been said they look comparable.

Hahaha. If that's true I can't wait for the backlash from the Gamecube version mafia.

it will take Nintendo ~3 years to perfect the right control scheme for Zelda Wii.

experimentation stage, 2005-2006. they've learned something while developing the controls for Wii Twilight Princess.

Miyamoto is formulating his ideas now. I believe he will be much more involved in the next Zelda than he was with Twilight Princess, though Eiji Aonuma will play a central role in fleshing out the game with his team(s).

Twilight Princess Wii, no matter what anyone says, is a Gamecube game, through and through. the controls should not be bad, but will leave much to be desired, a desire that will have to wait until around the end of the decade.

I look forward to playing Twilight Princess on both machines. my Gamecube upstairs on a 20in 4:3 TV and on Wii downstairs on my 32in 4:3 TV

the future Zelda could very well PLAY as differently from Twilight Princess as Ocarina of Time did to Link To The Past.

Now I'm confused, I'm not getting Wii at launch, but will it really be superior? Everyone who's actually played the game for a good amount of time are saying it is...

can you turn off the navi cursor?? it's so ****ing big and annoying

Wouldn't it go away if you pointed away from the screen? (I have no idea)

Adagio said:
I'm still going to get the GameCube version. Navi (and, to some extent, the over-large HUD) look as annoying as f*ck.

:P

gamespot impressions said:
The system works well for the most part, and, most significantly, the game features a decent amount of options to tweak stuff by letting you calibrate the pointer movement, clean up the HUD by removing the pointing cursor, and invert your look

Shut up! :P

Hmm...I dunno! Did Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask use an aiming reticle? Boy, did that ever make no sense...

But, hey...if you can remove Navi, woot!

The thing is though that the red cursor for aiming is vital with the Wii controls.

The blue fairy isn't totally needed, it's just there to show you whether your controller is pointing at the sensor bar (so you can quickly aim when selecting the bow and arrow).

Nope. It was the Z target method. You either held down on the Z button or pressed it once for it to hold the target.

Some of you need to go back and play OoT and shoot the bow and arrow. How quickly we seem to forget how it functioned (btw I always had trouble aiming that damn bow so I'm thrilled there's actually a cursor this time).

Mashing said:
Because you can use the analog stick for aiming if you so wish.

How? Isn't aiming the bow and slingshot done solely with the wiimote?

gamergirly said:
How are you supposed to even see your target if Navi is removed?

Like an enemy? Don't you just lock onto them like all 3D Zelda games?

BorkBork, read the impressions linked in this thread. You can aim with the Wiimote OR you can aim with the analog stick on the nunchuck. One thing is abundantly clear, Nintendo is giving you lots of options in the Wii version of the game. Read Matt's impression for a rundown of the options.

Thanks. I tried to read through it, but he put the detailed options menu directly in the spoilers for some retarded reason.

Exactly - I never really liked first-person shooting in 3D Zelda games... especially in Wind Waker and Master Quest - the GC's analog seemed too loose for any kind of precision.

All Matt's impression spoil are some items (which most of already known--the others are just nick nacks) and some of the first town. He has a part 2 going up that will contain lots of spoilers. You will be okay to go to the 2nd page and read just the section on controls, it will spoil very little (if anyting at all).

Oh I know how much of a pain it was to kill the Keese(the flying bats) using the Bow or the Fairy Slingshot. It's one of the few reasons why OOT didnt get perfect scores with some media(cough Gamepro cough).

So how spoilerish is the recent 1upShow if I haven't seen the game intro or the latest trailer?

Very spoilerish. To a point where I wish I hadn't seen it.

Smithers, hand me the mind eraser.

I posted this in the spoiler thread as well (mostly because I didn't know there were two Zelda threads happening at once), but:

My impressions are going up later tonight, but in the meantime: the Wii version is superior in every way to the GameCube game. If you have a Wii and buy the GameCube version of Zelda you are completely insane.

Yeah, it connected one dot in particular that I wasn't looking to have connected, and doesn't have enough new footage/info to really make it worth it if you're avoiding things.

Can you post the non-spoiler version in here. I want to here your take on the controls.
