The Zelda TP pre-launch NON-SPOILER thread (READ BEFORE YOU POSTTTT)

The gonintendo guy about the controls:

I felt it was extremely important to get others viewpoints instead of just my own when it came to the Wii’s control success rate. The honest overall opinion of myself, and the journalists that I talked to is this. If you play Twilight Princess on the Cube, we feel that you are missing out on an amazing experience.

ANM impressions up:

Overall, controlling Twilight Princess takes some time to get used to, but within 30 minutes, I felt like a pro. I was dodging enemies left and right, rolling around them, slashing at them and picking off enemies left and right. In fact, while it might sound crazy, I believe I am much better playing Zelda with the Wii-mote than the standard GameCube controller. For instance, with the slingshot, initially I was clumsy and took forever to kill anything. But, eventually, I was so good with it that I was turning around and picking things off within a matter of seconds.

I hope that these previews will remain as non-spoilerific as possible for the big things..... I don't know if I can resist!

The game is out in two weeks. You may want to freeze yourself in suspended animation if you can't wait (just don't let Butters do it).

I managed to stay 100% spoiler free with FFXII and that game took twice as long as Twilight Princess to release.

There remains this faction of gamers that refuses to accept the possibility. You know who you are. You continue to argue that because the controls were originally designed for the GameCube pad there is no hope for the Wii build. You say that your arms will get tired using the Wii remote. You speak of mirrored worlds and right-handed Link. And you know what? It's all crap. If you buy Twilight Princess for GameCube and not Wii, you are a fool.

:D

...
Using the Wiimote to control Link’s sword attacks is just too much fun. It worked for me 100% of the time. I never had an instance where I took a swing with the Wiimote/Nunchuck, and it didn’t register. The only thing that cause me any issue was within the first 5 minutes of receiving a sword. If Link has his sword sheathed, the first swing of the Wiimote will have him take it out, rather than swing. I didn’t even realize that I didn’t have the sword out at first…but once I noticed that there were no issues. It is the same issue that happens in all the 3d Zeldas. You have to have your sword out before you attack, and if you don’t, you have to go through the animation before you start your fight. So at first I thought that the Wiimote wasn’t picking up my movement correctly, it was actually my own ignorance causing the problem. Wiimote sword functionality is extremely impressive, and you might find it hard to believe how much it adds to the game. I seriously cannot see myself playing the Cube version and enjoying it nearly as much. I know that it is the same core game…and I would enjoy the story just as much…but the physical connection of actually feeling like Link is absolutely priceless. In my mind, the Wii version is the definitive version.

I know a junior member who's really ****ing lucky I didn't see what he posted. You're still getting banned, but only for a couple days just as a reminder as to why you should ****ing learn how to read.

I just IM'ed that to my friend who keeps saying the game sucks on the Wii because it was designed for the Cube. :D

Here's a great quotes:

First off, the Wii mote control is fabulous. It's so intuitive and comfortable that it makes today's controllers (even the much heralded Xbox 360 game pad) feel archaic. The remote needs to be within range of it's sensor bar, and it's not uncommon to have to adjust it so that everything works in tandem, but for the most part, the remote is very flexible, allowing for on the lap as well as in the air play.

Damn, all the impressions so far have been so unanimously positive over the controls, it's not even funny. Not just positive, but every one of them makes it seem like it's the new and definite way to play a Zelda-game. There's no way I'm getting the cube version now, 300 bucks for just Zelda here I come.

:lol burn in hell bitches! burn in hell!! :D

Zelda am god. **** any other Q4 game.

Holy shit! Bill Trinen said that the first playthrough took 70 hours and that was WITHOUT doing everything! :O

I've read 4 previews and all they seem to agree that this game looks like (at least on the first 6 to 10 hours) not only an excellent game but an absolute masterpiece. Lost of 10s are coming.

So is this the best game ever made yet?
Ocarina of Time is my favorite game ever. Ever. But I honestly, honestly can't see Ocarina of Time matching this game. It seems as if Twilight Princess isn't just slightly better, but it's, dare I say it, in a whole league of it's own. Which would be downright incredible.

I hate but love it too! How can your favorite game of ALL TIME just get dusted in the wind like this? :lol

i like how every preview says, "the wii controls are alright. you get used to them." and there's good old ignMatt, practically fellating the nunchuck :lol

1UP:
Zelda's Wii controls have been greatly improved since E3, making the use of secondary weapons feel like second nature. Click the image above to check out all Twilight Princess screens. [...] Although the control scheme isn't entirely flawless, it allows for a level of precision and ease of use that's an encouraging surprise

Seems a little better than "alright". Hell, I think we may even call those impressions "good". What do you say, Draft?

Here's more impressions from two more websites, but since they are Nintendo fan websites you'll probably just ignore them anyway:

GoNintendo:

The honest overall opinion of myself, and the journalists that I talked to is this. If you play Twilight Princess on the Cube, we feel that you are missing out on an amazing experience. [...] I just did what felt natural for what was going on in the game. Swinging the Wiimote and Nunchuck to perform Link’s attacks adds such a visceral experience to the game…it truly does further the entire Zelda experience. [...] Using the Wiimote to control Link’s sword attacks is just too much fun. It worked for me 100% of the time.

Planet Gamecube:
[some spoiler impressions] [...] The satisfying part is getting the lock-on with a moving target, and it's made much easier with the remote controller.

Well, bless my soul, Draft. I guess this means Matt's not the only one who seems positive on Wii controls.
