Three in June - Hard Three-set

The challenge is to finish three or more games in a month. :)

Having this goal can be a good reminder to pick up some old saves, and motivation to continue games through the occasional frustrating times. Some months can be harder than others, and different people have different circumstances, but three can often be an achievable goal to push for.

What counts as finishing a game can sometimes be fuzzy, so you can use your own judgement. There aren't any hard rules.

Please post your goals for the month, and please share your triumphs and setbacks and impressions of the games you play as the month goes by.

How Long to Beat is a big help, as a guide to how much longer a game will take.

Backloggery can be used to keep track of the games you have and haven't finished, to prevent a game from falling through the cracks.

52 Games. 1 Year. 2016. is a thread for if you're looking for a bigger challenge.

Good luck to everyone chipping away at their backlog. :)

______________________
I expected it to be a good month for me. So far I have finished 7 games, a good mix of longer and shorter games.
Oxenfree: I started and finished it on the 1st of June, in about 4 hours, buying it after hearing about the game earlier this year on the Match 3 podcast. I'm got the feeling of Kentucky Route Zero crossed with Firewatch. It seems to have a few significant different choices and it makes me want to play through it again.
The Book of Unwritten Tales 2: Finished on the 4th. It's about 20 hours long which is long for a point and click adventure, which is exaggerated by playing the previous two games in the series (including the spin-off) recently. But it some excellent high points along the way and I would like another game in the series. Around Chapter 4 there were some puzzles that didn't make as much sense as usual but it picked up again towards the end.
Gone Home: PS4 version, finished on the 8th, in about 90 minutes. I had played the PC version when it was released but now I finished the PS4 version as well. I appreciated it both times but appreciated the storytelling more this time.
Tales of Zestiria: Finally finished on the 9th, in roughly 30 hours. It is the first Tales game that I finished. I took a break from it for a few months due to some required fetch quests putting me off it. I finished those on the 8th of June, then the rest of the game on the 9th. Most of the gameplay between the end of those quests and the end of the main story was worse than that, with a lot of backtracking. I played it for the characters.
Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter: Finished on the 11th, in maybe 12 hours of gameplay. It's a bit disappointing, although it still drew me in to finish it the day after release. The cases have less satisfying conclusions than in the previous Sherlock Holmes game, which is the main issue with the game. I expected the greater emphasis on action scenes to be the weak point but they were better than I expected (however I would still prefer significantly fewer). It is my 12th platinum trophy.
Dreaming Sarah: Finished on the 21st. It's a light metroidvania with quick progression (It took me 2-3 hours long to get to the credits and 85% completion). It has surreal elements and an absurd sense of humour.
Radiator 2: Finished on the 23rd. I am counting it as one game: it is a collection of short games which I finished in 50 minutes (5/5 steam achievements). The games are Hurt Me Plenty, Succulent, Stick Shift (and a hidden extra) and CondomCorps. Of these games, I had only bought Hurt Me Plenty before (and counted it in a previous month) though this is an updated version. They are male homoerotic art games, plus a shooting game where you shoot condoms through windows. For an article about them (NSFW): http://steamed.kotaku.com/it-s-not-easy-putting-a-gay-sex-game-on-steam-1782457390

I'm also aiming for some of:
Atelier Sophie: After playing for a few hours, I respect its differences from other Atelier games. I thought I might be more frustrated by its changes from the other games.
The Testament of Sherlock Holmes: I bought it this month and have played it for about three hours so far. It resembles the games after it in the series more than I expected.

Been making slow progress in the last months. Need to play shorter games and at the end of the month I have to study hard.

Either way, my goals are:

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright (3DS)
Momodora III (PC)
Transistor (iPad)
Shantae And the Pirate's Curse (3DS)
and maybe: Nier (Xbox 360)

Should be doable. I'm close to the end of Fire Emblem: Fates and Momodora III and Transistor shouldn't be too long according to howlongtobeat. Problems are Overwatch and Hearthstone.

Had a good May with 6 games cleared.

June targets
Almost finished Dark Souls 3, I think 3 more mandatory bosses.
Also playing Chrono Trigger, at the future ruins so still a good bit to do.
I have Halo Reach to clear too, should be the easiest to clear.

I did well last month, so hopefully I'll keep that up in June. Here's what I want to play:
  • Mirror's Edge Catalyst
  • Ratchet & Clank 2016
  • The Witcher 3 - Blood and Wine
  • The Witcher 3 - Hearts of Stone
  • Zero Time Dilemma
There's no way I'm going to have time to finish Zero Time Dilemma in the couple of days after launch but I'm just listing it anyway. R&C (which I'm playing now) and Mirror's Edge are the main two I want done, then I'll hopefully have enough time between finishing Mirror's Edge and ZTD's release to fit the Witcher 3 DLC in.

June...

  • Saint's Row 2 - PS3
  • Saints Row: The Third - PS3 (see how I feel after Saint's Row 2, not so sure at the moment)
  • Lego Star Wars - OG XBox (replay)
  • Lego Star Wars III - PS3
  • Star Wars Force Unleashed - PS3 (If I have time, hopefully at least start it, need to purchase)

With both Hitman and The Golf Club as 2nd games in the background.

Was originally going to do the Lego Star Wars games for Force Awakens Release at end of June (on pre-order), but I think Force Awakens can wait into July now, along with Force Unleashed II and Lego Star Wars II.

Hopefully I can finish Uncharted 4 (Chapter 15 -> end).

Not sure I can beat 2 more - Blizzard has me by the balls in Overwatch & Hearthstone standard.

Finished 2 games last month (Doom and Uncharted 4). I should be able to do one better this month.
Here's what I'm aiming for:

  • Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt (main game)
  • Wolfenstein: The New Order
  • SOMA
And if things go really well

  • Dark Souls 3
  • Fire Emblem Birthright

I'm going big this month:

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PC)
Ratchet and Clank (PS4)
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (PC)
Grand Theft Auto V (PC)

Plus I'll be sprinkling some Overwatch (PC) in there, as well! I don't know if I'll be able to complete the Witcher expansions as well, that's likely too much, haha.

My write up for the only game I beat last month

Beyond: Two Souls

This game actually made a big impression on me. The games of David Cage have been controversial mainly for being games/non-games and then the writing which has received mixed reviews. Jokes about what happened with the second half of Indigo Prophecy and the whole "Jason, JASOOON, JaSOOOOOON" from Heavy Rain makes it easy to simply point and say "lol David Cage. what a tosser".

For me the gameplay of Quantic Dream games has always been appealing. So the very basics of Beyond: Two Souls was not going to be an issue. The one playthrough that I did for the developers other two games and the initial demo let me know that the controls of the game would be up my alley. It was up to the story to be more interesting than the previous efforts. And for the most part I was won over by the journey of Jodie. The entire story as it is, is a little farfetched by the grand end, but even then it didn't matter to me (if this was a movie or book I would not be satisfied. As a game though the way I absorb the story is just different). It wasn't the whole arc that mattered to me. Perhaps if one looks at the story from that perspective it's a letdown. for me I was simply engaging in little snippets of this girls life as she struggles with various things. And so many of these are relatable. I don't want to go into spoiler territory but the thing that stuck with me is that there are parts where the game got a very strong emotional reaction from me do to reasons that are much more human than supernatural powers or becoming a CIA agent. It's the human aspect of Jodie that made me fall in love with the character. I got to understand this girl from a young age to young adult and there are things that happen to her which in no way happened to me but the underlying feelings of those events are still relatable. The only spoiler I wish to expand on a little is the part where
Jodie is separated from Nathan and the assistant as she is plucked away by the CIA. The way that whole chapter played out for me was so emotional that I actually had tears in my eyes. The sense of losing one family that did/didn't love you and then finding a new family that does fully love you and then you suddenly are taken away without warning and the little actions you can perform in the chapter just hit me really hard. That taps into parental disappointment where you feel you should be able to depend on the parent and that they will always be there for you but they aren't. they just aren't and it hurt.
And maybe you think "oh god so cheesy and stupid. Well not for me so I guess my stupid response is "no u".

Music is great, controlling Aiden is great. the story as a whole is miss and hit but as individual chapters that give a look into a person's life it works for me. I think the combat is a little wonky at times as it was not always clear to me which way I should be pressing the analogue stick to avoid things or hit them. But the game is very forgiving so it does not matter if you make several mistakes. I personally loved this game and look forward to replaying it in a different fashion even though I understand the choices don't make massive differences. I get that. Even so it takes nothing away from the game to me.

Lastly, really good acting on the part of all the actors that played as Jodie (including Ellen Page as the teenage/adult version of Jodie) and Willem Dafoe reprising his role as doctor Osbourne... eh I mean as a scientist whose a little kooky but also fatherly is a role that fits him. I can't remember the assistants name, but he was really darn good and possibly my favorite non-main character in the game. How can one not like him? He's always got your back. For Quantic Dream games it makes too much sense to hire accomplished actors to take on lead roles and they are interactive movies.
So yeah. The game is far from perfect. But the emotional experience and the time spent with certain characters (Jodie and Aiden particularly of course) makes this a game I highly enjoyed and I can't wait for the game Detroit from this studio.

3 for June:
Metal gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 3
-undecided-

[PSTV]Norn9: Var Commons - in progress
[WiiU]The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - in progress
[3DS]Final Fantasy Explorers - in progress

Should be able to get through Norn9 and TP before Kirby drops on the tenth. If so I should be free of my primary backlog by the time Zero Time Dilemma and Mario & Sonic drop at the end of the month. That might actually give some time to finally start up Xenoblade X or Genei Ibun Roku #fe if Kirby doesn't take too long.

I didn't beat anything last month, very disappointed as I had a lot of free time but didn't make much of it. I'll move those titles upto this month:

DOOM
Uncharted 4
Yoshi's Woolly World

I'm hoping to finish and play through the following this month:

Uncharted 4
Injustice: Gods Among Us
Fragments of Him
Hard Reset Redux
Among the Sleep
Fallout 4
Dead Island: Definitive Edition
Dead Island: Retro Revenge
Mirror's Edge: Catalyst

I should do this sometime, but I feel like I'll only have time for Xenoblade X this month. Anyone remember the evil doppelgänger of this thread, the "which games did you quit last month" thread? I liked reading that one along with this one, do we still do it here?

My goals for this month are:

Etrian Odyssey Untold 2
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
Hitman Episode 3
Uncharted 1
Odyn Sphere

And if I can get homebrew again, my lunatic maid/butler Fire Emblem Fates Revelation run.

Would love to post Witcher 3 but just started, so doubt I will even get to 50% this month.

Look's like I've made it to another June - time to play some games!!

Priorities
  • Bloodborne - Continuously hearing nothing but praise for the game, this is the one I'm determined to finally get through. I've started several times but never gotten past BSB. Having the summer open for long-night sessions, hopefully I'll finally be able to see this one through.
  • LoZ: Skyward Sword - I need to tackle this before the next one is fully unveiled. I've made it through the first couple of areas in the past, but I'll be starting a new file for this one.
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3D - I think I'm around the 75% mark
Just made it over the mountains, moving into sword valley now iirc
. Really enjoyed chipping away at it since it launched on 3DS, but now it's time to wrap it up.
Extras
  • Limbo - Something short, basically just padding out my list in case I miss one of the big ones.
  • Deus Ex: HR (DC) - Damn. Made it past the second boss way back when, but shelved it when news of the Director's Cut started surfacing. Now I'll run through prior to Mankind Divided's launch later this year.

Looking over it, lots of grim in this list. Might need to add some palette cleansers later on, but either way, here's to a productive summer!

I've been able to steadily finishing 3 games every month since March. yay.

This month, my goals are at least three from this list:

- Valkyria Chronicles Remastered: Still early, Chapter 5 atm
- Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest: Chapter 7
- Zelda: Windwaker: arrived at forbidden woods
- NBA 2k16: it's on plus, so why not. Plan on finishing the story mode.
- Gravity Rush Remastered: still sealed.

For this month:

Mirror's Edge: Catalyst
Odin Sphere
Zero Escape 3 (probably will leak over into July)
Tokyo Mirage Sessions (probs July too)
Star Ocean 5 (probs July too)

SOO probably only two games for me in June. I might manage to rush through ZE3 though!

Will be trying to beat these this month:

Trails in the Sky FC - I've been... playing this on and off since February. I'm at the last chapter now, so I don't have much left before I beat it.
Root Double - Just have to read through Double, then finish up a few more endings. Should be easily doable.
Digimon Cyber Sleuth - 10 hours into this, should be doable this month.

After finishing the games above, I'll be focusing on these:

Cave Story+
Read Only Memories
The Witcher 3

Had a great month in May.

Im currently on an XBox/XB1 BC kick.

Want to beat at least three from the following list:

-Dark Souls 1 including DLC. I think I'm at least ~1/2 thru this already if not close to 2/3.

-Gears of War 3 - never played before and want to get ready for GoW4

-Rainbow Six Vegas- completed the first chapter but not really feeling it, may drop this for now depending on how 2nd chapter goes

-Halo 5- started a playthrough on Heroic. On mission 5 currently.

-Far Cry Primal

My goal is to beat 3 of the following 4 for the month:

Downwell
Enter the Gungeon
Dark Souls II - Scholar of the First Sin
Soft Body

I beat several games in May and I honestly had trouble remembering which, I know DA2 was one of them.

Kind of a shame. So I am going to track the ones I beat this month here.

My goals are to finish
Wolfenstein Old Blood
Old Blood was a solid game. A lot of fun rooms to clear, great cheesy Wolfenstein story. Glad I gave it the 10 or so hours it took. Will play New Order soon enough.

Gone Home

Beat Gone Home real quick the other night, it was interesting to listen to the story and explore the house. I liked that a game didn't have to be really about objectives or killing or anything other than a short narrative piece. Something to give you a window in to the author's thoughts and possible experiences. I'm glad I played it. Gone Home was the perfect change of pace. Lots of music in there, nothing that really grabbed me. Would recommend people try it, and not worry about "getting it".

Talos Principle Next Month!

Doom Next Month!

Demon's Souls
Completed this last night. Probably going to make a lttp thread later. Was around soul level 79ish. Went with a Royalty char, focused on magic, intelligence and vitality. Some people say magic is op, and they're right, but it felt so good mowing down that game and I went 4-1 against invading phantoms.

Only real nitpick is that there is too many cheese methods available in the game. Granted it is 7 years old now. Still a lot of fun. My first real souls experience. I am currently 1/4 - 1/3 through Dark souls so that will happen soon too. I also wasn't fond that all of my invasions happened as I was going up to kill Kill Allant in Boletaria. So I would get half way up there, get invasion notice, stake out a death alley, make myself look weak, and then soul ray some unsuspecting invaders. But all I wanted to really do was finish the darn game.

Star Fox Zero
Browser killed my diatribe I had written about this horrible game. No it isn't good. No I don't need to just get used to it. No I don't need to play it anymore, because I beat it, and because of the horrible amalgamation of mashing that cockpit view forced gamepad controls with normal star fox controls, I could never enjoy myself. All of the bad design decisions were forced on this game because of the stupid forced gamepad controls. Note I am not anti-gyro, in fact I swear by them for games like Splatoon, that were well designed and used them to good effect. This is not that. Maybe if the whole game was cockpit view with gyro controls, ala an X-Wing or Tie-Fighter type game, then yeah I might be okay. But not like this. Never like this again. It just isn't fun. A real shame too, because now I am thinking of all the cool space sim / X-Wing like games we could of or should of gotten with gyro controls and the gamepad.

I think a star fox game designed entirely around either style, full cockpit or full normal star fox would have been perfect. A real shame and waste of Platinum's talents.

We'll see what I can close out. About 1/3 through Talos, Several stages in to Old Blood. About halfway through Demons and haven't started Doom. So setting my goals high.

Going sub the thread and update if I remember. But I think it'll be a good exercise. Next month will be even more ambitious as I have a week to myself.

I should do this sometime, but I feel like I'll only have time for Xenoblade X this month. Anyone remember the evil doppelgänger of this thread, the "which games did you quit last month" thread? I liked reading that one along with this one, do we still do it here?

Even completing one game, especially one as massive as Xenoblade X, is an accomplishment against the backlog! I'm not sure about the other thread you mentioned.

Going to beat Uncharted 4, GTA V and maybe FFX HD this month (well... beat FFX... I could go beat the game right now, trying to decide how much time I'll waste on the end-game stuff).

[WiiU]The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD - Finished
[PSTV]Norn9: Var Commons - in progress
[3DS]Final Fantasy Explorers - in progress

Finished Twilight Princess HD and I must say I like the original version better. The controls, especially Epona, truncated tears of light sections, and the lack of Wiimote/Nunchuk support really left me underwhelmed. I had hoped Twilight Princess + Hard mode would have catapulted it ahead of Skyward Sword for best 3D Zelda game but playing it again it really isn't designed for hard mode at all. The encounters just don't lend themselves to it with all the cheap shots and none of the bosses are any harder anyway.

The original version is still my favorite 3D Zelda though.

Going to try and power through Norn 9 this weekend.

3DS
Nano Assault Ex
Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

XBO
Forza Horizon 2

For the second straight month, I only finished one game and that was three weeks ago. Definitely starting to acquire a bigger backlog than I would like. Highly unlikely that I'll be playing any other games in June and beyond except for what's listed below.

OVERALL for 2016: 7/15 (47%)

RECAP from MAY - 1/3 (33%)

1 - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End / PS4
Finished this game a few weeks ago. Excellent 9/10 and the second best game in the series but is still surpassed by Uncharted 2. In some aspects, I was disappointed but the pirate story is what saved the game for me.

JUNE

1 - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt / PS4
Purchased last Sunday digitally for $25 along with the expansion pass for $25. After Uncharted 4, I played Homefront: The Revolution, Doom and Just Cause 3 and for various reasons, stopped playing them all, traded them in for a PSN card and well, here I am.

2 - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone Expansion / PS4
Along with re-playing the main game, I'll also be playing Hearts of Stone once im finished with the main base game. Looking forward to the two expansions.

3 - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine Expansion / PS4
Really looking forward to playing Blood and Wine after the base game and the Hearts of Stone expansion. It's going to be nothing but a month (probably more) of The Witcher III and the expansions.

[WiiU]The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD - Finished
[PSTV]Norn9: Var Commons - Finished
[3DS]Final Fantasy Explorers - Finished

Final Fantasy Explorers was awful. Just boring and repetitive and completely unsatisfying to play in everyway.

Well my current backlog is done with. I just have my Japanese games to get through along with some old Dreamcast and Wii stuff I have kicking around. I can take my time with all of that though.

Haven't made the target for a few months but this month's list

Ace Attorney 5 - Cases 1-3 and DLC done
Earthbound - Haven't got too far in, still in the first town
Dark Souls 3 - Just beat another boss and got to the next fog gate in
Anor Londo
so progress is slow but steady.
Lifeline - Started this today, will keep giving bad advice until I kill this person.

Maybe Kirby I haven't decided.

Does Ace Attorney Dlc count as a separate game?

Half-Life 2: Lost Coast
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 3

OK. Lost Coast is just a short little ditty. Nothing to really add to the game. Not necessarily to play.

At least three of the following, maybe more....if E3 streams don't end up taking too much of my time:

  • DOOM (2016) - (XONE)
  • Sunset Overdrive (XONE)
  • Ni no Kuni (PS3)
  • Metal Gear Solid (PS3)
  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (X360)
  • El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (X360)
  • The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (PC)

Hit three for this month already, but they were short:

1) Fragments of Him
2) Hard Reset Redux
3) Injustice: Gods Among Us

Hoping to finish another one tomorrow, and have others planned for completion throughout the month. Trying to finish up some loose ends in June (ie. The Division, Uncharted 4's final chapters, and Ratchet & Clank.)

Finally done with this semester, so it's time to get back into gaming! I haven't even bought a game this year (my brother picked up Uncharted 4 - the first game he's bought since Resident Evil 4 - which I'll borrow once he's done), but I have a decent backlog I want to get through.

I'm gonna try to finish at least three of these:

Uncharted 4 - PS4
The Witcher 2 - PC
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - PC
Demon's Souls - PS3

Bonus:
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine - PS4
Fallout 4: Far Harbor - PS4

Want to beat at least three from the following list:

-Dark Souls 1

-Gears of War 3

-Rainbow Six Vegas

-Halo 5- started a playthrough on Heroic. On mission 7 currently.

-Far Cry Primal

Write-in:
-Transistor

Finished up Dark Souls 1 including the DLC. This was my first play through of this game and I enjoyed it. I thought it held up well and the fps wasn't too bad, with the understanding it's a FROM game and on XB360 BC.

After playing some Halo and Rainbow Six and Overwatch, I decided to take a break from shoot-bang and finally played Transistor which I got on PS+ last year but never touch. Really good game even though I had a bit of a hard time following the story. Compared to Bastion, I like Bastion better, but still a really fun game.

Finished FH2. It means Championship race. Sad thing is achievement didn't unlock. I don't know why, but it's probably glitched. Some ppl pop up others not.
However this is very good game. Not so beauty like Driveclub, not so real, not so hard, but I like it even more.

3DS
Nano Assault Ex
Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

XBO
Forza Horizon 2

Want to beat at least three from the following list:

-Dark Souls 1 including DLC.

-Gears of War 3

-Rainbow Six Vegas

-Halo 5

-Far Cry Primal

Write in Addition:
-Transistor

Finished 3 this month. After beating Dark Souls, still felt that rush and itch from those games so started my play through of Dark Souls III. Played a bit more of Rainbow Six Vegas, but really not feeling that game so will likely drop it.

First time joining a thread like this. My goals for this month are:

- Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Blood and Wine
- Rogue Galaxy
- God of War 3

Should be doable, I think. Additionally, I am planning on finishing my second playthrough of Uncharted 4.

I'm definitely sitting this one out, as I'm playing The Witcher 3, and having about 1 hour to play per night at the moment, I don't expect I'll be done with it for a couple of months.

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright (3DS)
Momodora III (PC)
Transistor (iPad)
Shantae And the Pirate's Curse (3DS)
and maybe: Nier (Xbox 360)

Just beat Shantae and the Pirate's Curse. I'm unsure if I continue Transistor. What I played so far didn't convince me really. Which is sad because I really like Bastion and the visual style. Might give it another half an hour before I finally decide.

Few weeks ago I bought Remember Me on PS3 and start it on last Wednesday. I enjoyed very good, imo very good game, maybe except last 1-2 chapters (too many fighting sections). However this game + Life is Strange proved, that Dontnod is very talented team (currently one of my favourite). Can't wait for Vampyr.
Today/tomorrow should finish Rhythm Thief.

3DS
Nano Assault Ex
Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

PS3
Remember Me

XBO
Forza Horizon 2

Hoping to polish off some or all:

-Doom 2016
-Uncharted 4
-Witcher 3 Blood and Wine
-Odin Sphere
-Picross e4
