Cool, they are pretty funny. I don't even see it as them taking a dump on Funimations work, just poking fun at the oddities of DBZ. You know...I'm operating under the assumption that after Piccolo had to blow up the moon because of Gohan they just started taking off Saiyan tails at birth and sealed that shit up permanently.

Yeah there's no Yamcha equivalent in HxH.

Chad and Renji fill that role in Bleach.

I sort of see Kiba as the Yamacha of the series.

Yamcha never had a moment even as fraction as satisfying as the one Leorio gets later on in HxH. Anyone who has finished the anime knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Thank fucking god. I get a sense that Togashi respects his characters enough not to reduce them to joke status like that. Even Kuwabara ain't holding L's like Yamcha is.
You don't even see all of the Phantom Troupe powers during this arc
and it's their arc for crying out loud.

I just got a bit of nostalgia seeing Speed Racer is being released by Funimation on Blu-Ray.

Then I randomly saw most of the comments on the "Coming Soon" trailer were "Speed Racer was an anime?!"

I knew it was a possibility, but... I knew that and I was barely old enough to see Speed Racer randomly on CN once or twice.

Why would I ever go to see a live action anime adaptation. The whole point of anime for me is that it's not using real people and that it's animated.

Not to mention that the movie looks like any other sci fi flick released in the last 5 years.

I think, in some cases, I wouldn't mind live action anime adaptations, but I would prefer if it was stuff like Death Note, more realistic anime. I think it can be done well like the Death Note films. I think a live action GitS adaptation could be good, but this movie isn't looking that great from what I've seen. If it does end up being good, great!

Yeah, I saw it there as well. One time, I even saw Indigo League Pokemon (Season One) on there as a marathon.

Hell, I mainly knew it as "oh, the anime by the company who's doing that crossover with Capcom for the Wii" for a while.

Yeah, heh. I could see some thinking it was an old cartoon since it aired when most people were kids and Speed Racer doesn't say "Anime" to some people. Even though I'd say the art style is pretty anime for its time period.

And Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was great! Glad I found a used copy that looked brand new for about $25. Great fighting game.

tangentally related, there are some 90s anime Magazines on archive.org now, and I was reading some last night. Here is the back cover to a 1993 issue of Animerica, advertising "Japanamation so hot it will melt your VCR", for a series that Myanimelist classifies as hentai, and all the comments/reviews are about people saying "it's not actually porn or anything"

I want to say they actually tried to get them in the game, but some licensing issues came up.

Speakin' of which, I actually think they tried to include Speed Racer in TvC, but they had no idea how it could've worked since people remember the car more than the racer, & I don't think they could pull a Captain Falcon.

Kind of surprised they haven't done a sequel, considering we're on the fourth Marvel game, but I guess that's more popular among the general audience.

I totally welcome "out-there" inclusions, lets me discover more of the company's history & shows their creativity.

I mean, they included a character from a dating sim/quiz hybrid game that would later be used for Quizzes & Dragons.

Also, Onimusha has licensing issues with the whole "we have characters who have faces similar to famous people" deal.

Zonic has it half right. Speed Racer was the one they knew the west would like but couldn't manage it because of the movie and Samurai Pizza Cats was something they only learned Americans were clamoring for after it was far too late.

Ahh right, it was more of characters they tried to included for the US version, but realized "well crap, we're just gonna have to use characters for franchises already in the game."

I also think EU was the reason why they had to remove the genie character, as one company still had the rights.

Ultimate All Stars loses the shitty genie but gets Frank West, Zero, Tekkaman Blade, Joe the Condor, and Yatterman-2. Huge upgrade.

Another scrapped character who possibly could have been the final boss? TOONAMI thread favorite Buraiking Boss!

To be fair, Dawn of Dreams was the most recent game in the series and you know Capcom was gonna use a character from there instead of going through the whole "likeness" route.

Yeah, I knew about how some characters couldn't make it for various reasons. Like how Phoenix Wright couldn't get the the game because the potential hitbox collision of "Objection!"
