Because nothing about the actual response gives concessions to the pose in the context of other characters.

One person created a forum topic that they didn't like it. Now the pose is gone. I think his comment is pretty much correct.
Yeah, just googling 'tracer victory butt pose' brings up one image of her rimming Widowmaker.
I still love the Tracer tho. She's my little Cockney sparra with extreme speed super powers.
Yeah changing this pose when the box art has Tracer twisting her spine to near breaking point to get both her ass & chest into the same picture... Crazy.
This isn't just confined to the gaming industry either. Its an increasingly coddled and hyper-sensitive generation with instant access to a megaphone and soapbox (social media) for every non-issue that crosses their minds.
Instead of using our technology, our voices, and our minds to change the world and revolutionize and overthrow real, actual injustice and unfairness, we'll just pander to 20-something millenials who deal with their personal insecurities about sex (it always boils down to sex) by demanding a watering-down of everything else. Preemptively remove the "problem" so as to not excite or disturb the baby. Nice pinnacle of civilization.
If this is something players can choose to do and other players don't see it, I don't really see a big problem. If someone wants to show off their character's butt, and they're the only one seeing it... okay? Sure?
Where it starts to get weird is if this is say, something I can do to show off to other players. Then it gets a bit creepy, and knowing most people playing that character are probably creepy pervs doesn't help. In that case I can totally understand and support the reasoning for removing the pose.
Speaking personally, I don't like seeing sexualized people or characters in games, or anywhere. It pulls me out of an experience, feels pandering, and makes me want to stop playing it.

Jesus christ. You can't criticize anything before being labelled part of a moral crusade against everything it stands for.
There are a number of reasons why this CAN NOT happen:
1. This would make everyone happy. Not just one party. BOTH. That's not right.
2. See 1

I'm not going to bother addressing the topic of censorship and this issue. But based on the initial poster who had this issue why she was perfectly okay letting her daughter "grow up alongside" of game where you kill other people but the pose where she looks over her butt is where the line was drawn...?

On the other hand, this ain't New Zack Island. I didn't know it was there in the first place, and I'm really not going to feel it's absence. This is very much a no big deal situation.

The thread has two hundred posts in it, many of them concurring.
The person who posted the thread is not solely responsible for removing the pose from Tracer.
The director of the game made the ultimate decision to remove it.
Saying 'one person removed Tracer's cheescake' is reductive and inaccurate.
It always seems like you "anti SJW" guys are the most outraged about everything.

I was expecting both a much bigger butt and a much more lewd pose. Can't believe somebody got angry enough about this to type all that up. This is tame as hell.

Yeah, but it was like one person in a thread with dozens of people saying "no, we disagree." The majority was clearly against the change here. It was just one person. I get this kind of feedback in my work all the time, and I disregard it. Someone once tried to get me to change the use of "madness" in an article about war (iirc I was describing how CoD death quotes treat war) because "it might offend neuro-atypical people" or something like that, and... like, nah. I'm going to continue using a common word. If I'd said "retard" offensively and someone wanted me to remove it, I'd get why. But 9 times out of 10, someone demanding changes is not a good judge of your work, and this person did not appear to be.
The whole thing plays into the troubling idea that only 'bad women' can be attractive and 'good girls' can't own their sexuality. Tracer's a good silly friend so she can't ever want to look cute, because that would make her a slut and it's totally out of characters, because only baaaad women who are terrible should ever want to look attractive.

Seriously. That pose was nothing. Nothing of value was lost but damn...I almost think someone was trolling.
My opinion as well. It's easy to see how it could make people uncomfortable. Blizzard are clearly going for a Disney/Dreamworks style character with Tracer and for her to deliberately show off her ass(heh)ets like that is weird. Imagine if a Big Hero 6 character did something similar.
But to all the people saying "who cares?" clearly someone does, and you're not losing anything worth complaining about.
You bemoan the removal of gratuitous butt? Play as Widowmaker or play Bayonetta or MGSV.
You think censorship of this kind is "ridiculous" or "too PC"? Read the very logical and reasonable post on the Overwatch forums that started this and ask me again "who cares?"

The "real justice" thing... Not everyone discusses/is aware of/cares about the same issues. The single person who raises a concern to the developers doesn't invalidate all the people out there who engage in other forms of activism. Speaking in general terms, challenging microaggressions most people take for granted is one of the most effective way to instigate change.
With regards to this thing in particular, civilization isn't being watered-down because you can't see a game girl's bum anymore.
This wasn't a "demand". All thigns considered it seemed to be fairly in-depth and reasonable. This was clearly good enough for the developers to agree. Why should it matter?
What's a better response to feedback:
"Sorry, but most people say it's not an issue, so we don't care"
or
"Hmm, you raise a valid point and we as the developers of the game agree with it, so we will push the game in that direction"
Even regardless, the fact that the change was made won't really matter so much in the long run. The developers chose to do it.

From the sound of it, I thought it was a pose of her twerking and booty poppin before hitting the floor (doing a split) and bringing it back up.
They're just trying push Tracer to the front and position her as the 'face of Overwatch.' Dropping the sexualization on her isn't really that big of a deal anyway considering she was never that ridiculous anyway.
I do think that decisions like this will help Overwatch in the long run, especially if people grow attached to the characters through the animated shorts and extended universe stuff.

Disney's all about dat sexualization of anthropomorphic characters. I mean, Zootopia was literally intended to appeal to furries or whatever, yeah? Have you ever seen any disney cartoon ever? Are you familiar with Space Jam?
Just because something is written in a nice way doesn't mean it isn't a demand. That was absolutely a demand on the part of one user, and clearly the majority of people disagreed with that person. Being politely written doesn't mean it has to be listened to.
But like I said: I encounter a lot of people asking me to change my work in my own life, so there's definitely a bit of "I'm annoyed that anyone would cater to forum requests" thing going on here. I think it reeks of a lack of belief in your own work. A lack of confidence. That really bugs me as a creative type.

Its insignificant nature and context of response is the entire point, whether they were sweeping changes is irrelevant because the precedent is now set for the exact same logic on actual sweeping changes. Would your response actually be different if they ended up changing the entire design and used the same response?

There really wasn't a lot of fuss. Some Overwatch players discussed how the pose wasn't a good fit for the character. Blizzard decided to change it because they agreed.
But you can't change anything in a game these days without having to handle the "SJW!" cries.
It's in closed beta. Part of being a beta participant is sharing your thoughts with the development team.

Gaming is a small part of my life, I see this sort of thing happening everywhere. I'm not anti-SJW, I'm anti-sniveling whiny baby when there's some serious shit going on in our world that needs addressing. But I guess this is no longer my arena at the pruny old age of 34.
