We see the brand declining a lot outside of US though. You do realize that one year doesn't eliminate the millions of consoles sold the past 3 years in the UK
Weird, this forum was full of people from 2013 onwards stating that the UK was an Xbox stronghold. No surprise here, since this is widely regarded as one of PS4's peak years and the UK is Sony territory.
I was being a bit hyperbole there but my point was more that XB1X isn't going to help things after launch period given where XB1S is atm + what Pif said above. You do realize that one year doesn't eliminate the millions of consoles sold the past 3 years in the UK
How about just saying it's strong console wise for both. It's still xbox's second strongest terriority.Weird, this forum was full of people from 2013 onwards stating that the UK was an Xbox stronghold.
Hmm. Guess not.
You do realize that one year doesn't eliminate the millions of consoles sold the past 3 years in the UK
Who has marketing rights this year with FIFA? It was weird as fuck seeing FIFA advertised on Switch, if MS or Sony had rights they are quite petty when it comes to mentioning other platforms the games are on.
The issue is software not hardware. That's the main reason for the decline in the US and U.K. They only put 1 game out and had 2 lackluster bundles all year. The fall bundles, X and seemingly better software for 2018 will fox a lot of the problemI was being a bit hyperbole there but it was a point that XB1X isn't going to help things after launch period given where XB1S is atm.
Did the 3DS do bad in the UK in its early days? I thought it did pretty well early on in the UK but everyones skipping mention of it to go back to DS and Wii.

I can see Switch surpassing Xbox at some point.
Xbox might be 3rd in every territory.
Xbox selling worse than a supply constrained console is the real news here.
Sales numbers wise or revenue wise? Do you know more details about that? Would love to hear them. UK and Nintendo is a fascinating market dynamic.
Wii sold 6.6 million units in UK by January 2010, it was huge.No real surprise. I honestly never knew anyone here with a Wii or Wii U. Even with the Switch I only know one guy with one. All of my other gaming friends have PS4s really, a few with XOs.
Yh and that's the thing the situation isn't going to improve if they are not addressing it as a whole/for a prolonged period(In terms of amount of releases/release period). The issue is software not hardware. That's the main reason for the decline in the US and U.K. They only put 1 game out and had 2 lackluster bundles all year. Revenue-wise, but given that the prices are more or less the same in Europe it must have also been the case sales-wise.
Just as an example (2009/2010):
UK & Ireland - 948.9m EUR
France, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Russia - 926.2m EUR
Germany - 615.5m EUR
That's not very good.
That's literally just one gen. Even back in the snes days Nintendo wasn't that hot
sounds like you dont know what competition is....the Xbox is were it is because of strong competition.Useless in regards to Nintendo simply because of stock issues.
For MS this is not new. Simply confirms what has been going on since the launch of this gen of consoles. For those who like console gaming this is bad news. If it continues MS will walk away and leave you with only one vendor (nintendo is in its own world for now) with no competition other than the PC. MS will probably try to move the brand over to PC only. Still wonder if they will ever buy or team with GoG or whomever and build a real store.
Competition drives things forward and controls price. Really should look at this as bad news for console gaming in general.
I mean, there was that whole Ambassador price cut.
Yeah, MS have slipped away badly it seems. Perhaps XBX will inject some life into it but I can only see existing users upgrading for the most part.
Switch won't be a replacement for PS4 in anyone's mind as long as the third party offerings are not available on it. Only once that starts to happen can we start to think about the Switch impacting PS4 sales imo.
Is the Switch doing dramatically better than the 3DS pre-pricecut? It had JUST started to outpace the 3DS launch aligned in Japan for 2-3 weeks before the pricecut happened and 3DS shot to heaven. Similar story in the US, but the 3DS was doing better. How was it in the UK?
Cannot be said enough.Guys, XB1 sales are not declining cos of people waiting for a £450 4K console that plays the same games. Come on.
The average consumer doesn't know or give a damn about this, only enthusiasts on places like gaf do (and erroneously imo)
MS need worthwhile exclusives and a healthy variety of games, that's their problem, not Forza being on W10
The Switch isn't really supply constrained in the UK currently.Useless in regards to Nintendo simply because of stock issues.

The PS2 destroyed all markets, it was hardly just a UK thing. And it doesn't make the UK 'Sonyland'.
The whole '<insert your least favourite console manufacturer here>land' thing just seems like an excuse every time <insert your favourite console here> doesn't sell as much as the other.
Xbone sales have (probably) ground to a halt because of the Xbox One X being on the horizon and all the marketing weight that Microsoft has thrown behind it.
Wii sold more at least 6.6 million units in UK (January 2010), it was huge.
DS LTD was at 10.7 million units in January 2010.That's different from us being the 'consistently weakest', and is dependent on various metrics. As Toadthemushroom posted, the Nintendo DS had sold over 10 million units in the UK by the end of 2009. Meanwhile in 2015, it had sold 10.5 million in France. So unless Nintendo failed to sell an additional 500k units of the thing in the six years between those statements, or the latter is straight up factually wrong - in which case, I apologise for relying on faulty info - then by hardware sales, that's pretty close.
So perhaps my statement should be amended to: We were a sucker for the Nintendo DS.
I can speak only for the data I have (in this case LTD as January 2010).Was more like 8 or 9 million (and 12 million DS)
Bingo. If people don't want to actually use the Switch outside the house, then what? May as well have a system that sits in one spot and has highly detailed games.
Switch still has to fight with smartphones for on-the-go attention and it does seem to be putting up a good one so far.
Hehe well it's still a bad call objectively based on what the system is targeting but it's definitively validity to the exclusion not affecting it in the grand scheme of things.I wasn't aware of the poor US sales for Xbox this year. Again the UK and US show a similar trend.
Pretty good call for Sony to not include the UHD player then. Gamers want vidya games is my scientific conclusion.
DS LTD was at 10.7 million units in January 2010.

Yeah, Xbox games are still consistently in the top 10.

Yeah, we were talking about UK market. For the UK, just to absolutely clarify?
(Though given the holiday period, wouldn't be surprised at all by that)
Yeah, Wii was over 8.4 million by June 2013:Over 8 million according to this in 2013
