Ukrainian MP Oleg Lyashko taken hostage by separatists in Mariupol, reported Donbass news @novostidnua
Hopefully his fate is kinder than other Politicians
From his Facebook page:
Олег Ляшко - 2 hrs
Терористи заявили, що захопили мене у полон. У Луганську навіть салют дали з цього приводу. Дирку їм від бублика, а не Ляшка. Я живий, продовжую воювати на Сході

The terrorists said they took me prisoner. In Lugansk, even salute was given on this occasion. Dirk donut from them, not Lyashko. I'm alive, I continue to fight in the East (Google Translate)

I wonder if (outside of a few journalists) any real organizations observed this election, even if they were from Russia.

This is the start of World War III isn't it guys?

Well fuck, been nice knowing you all.

I don't even know you though :|

The circumstances surrounding that person (civilian?) who was killed in Mariupol are tragic, but why the fuck would you provoke armed men like that? At the very least he didn't die at the scene even though the separatists already pulled tarp over him:

Here's a better quality video of it all:
http://vk.com/video19928820_168491620?hash=d2df223ed5bebbcd
Apparently people in the video are also saying: "the are shooting into the ground", "he was hit by a ricochet", "stop provoking them" @ the guy shooting at the end.
Different perspective:

Anyways: sad to lose your life like this. Hope that kid who got shot in the leg is fine.
That shit is exactly what Putin was betting on, just much more of it..

Some of them is apparently, audibly Caucasians (especially the guy filming), sounding foreign to Ukrainians from that region (mispronouncing cities).

Here's a huge video of 9th May in Mariupol (can't watch it atm.):

I feel sorry for the people who got caught in the middle of all this..

Also some of the Odessa blaze victims are rather easily identifiable:

its crazy to see how this is happening during seemingly every day life... thing jumped a barricade... almost tipped over. You don't see that every day.

Looking at the barricade opposite the tank, it almost looks like a little launch ramp is setup for skateboards/bmx. I wonder what was on the other side. The tank driver was probably thinking aerial combo but botched the approach and just wanted to stick the landing.

As you've probably read in the news, the Ukrainian national guard opened fire on a crowd of civilians in the city of Krasnoarmiysk.

Here are two videos of the incident (the second one is graphic):

KRASNOARMEISK, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian national guardsmen opened fire Sunday on a crowd outside a town hall in eastern Ukraine and an official for the region's insurgents said there were fatalities.

The bloodshed in the town of Krasnoarmeisk occurred hours after dozens of guardsmen shut down voting in a referendum on sovereignty for the region.

An Associated Press photographer who witnessed the shooting said two people were seen lying unmoving on the ground and insurgent leader Denis Pushilin was quoted by the ITAR-Tass news agency as saying there were an unspecified number of deaths.

Several hours earlier, guardsmen came to the town about 30 kilometers (20 miles) from the regional capital, Donetsk, and dispersed referendum voting that was taking place outside the town hall and they took control of the building. In the evening, more guardsmen arrived in a van and a scuffle broke out with people who were gathered around the building. Then the guardsmen fired shots.

I'm trying to figure out what happens to the guy in the white shirt in the second video. It looks like all the shots are directed into the air.

Same here. I've watched the first video frame by frame a dozen times, and I just don't understand what could've happened.
There appear to be three men shooting, and when white shirt and black shirt guy drop on the ground the bald soldier is shooting in the air, the masked man on the left is shooting at the asphalt, while the masked guy on the right has a finger on the trigger of the weapon BlackShirt is trying to pull away from him (not gonna comment on the brilliant idea behind that action
but I just did, didn't I?
), but still at a low angle. WhiteShirt also had various people in front of him.

Second video has been taken down, sadly, I was going to check the soldier that peeked above the building's entrance. Gonna look if anyone else rehosted that, will update if I find it.

Edit - there you go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=em2-5Pkl_h4

Edit 2 - Damn, NewsMedia moves fast. First video down too, and two more rehosts of the same are also gone.

Same thing: firing into the ground -> ricochets -> injured (dead). Whoever taught them this kind of crowd control is an idiot..

What those videos show is how wound up people in the east have become over all of this. Russian television hammers into their heads that Western Ukrainian nazis will come and put them into concentration camps hence their reactions / confronting of military.
I don't doubt some of them are (foreign) separatists in plainclothes, like that one Caucasian I previously posted, but I'm also sure the bulk are legit concerned citizens.
Horrible and exactly what Putin wanted..
That tall tough guy now might need a prosthetic leg:

/that second video showed it pretty well. There are some more videos in the channel.

Oh, also:
Denis Pushilin was quoted by the ITAR-Tass news agency as saying there were an unspecified number of deaths.
Yes, I'm sure thousands died there.

//just search for the Cyrillic name of the city on yt:

I was thinking ricochet because it looks like you can see a tiny bit of muzzle flash directed downwards (although I cant tell direction for certain) for a frame or two in the first video, by either of the non-bald dudes, it's hard to say. Maybe the guy in the middle.

And that guy who got his leg fucked up is a total dumbass who basically shot himself.

One gets shot in the leg when he attempts to wrestle with the soldier for his weapon.
Guy in white I really cant tell how he got hit because his injury seems to be from behind while soldiers were shooting in the air. Curious why the camera man suddenly takes the camera off the scene when the guy in white drops when no one around him seems to be making any movements.

Screwed up situation but I also think the AP is doing pretty shoddy reporting on it. Headlines like Ukraine Guardsmen open fire into crowd paints one hell of an image that is very different from what happened. Its near Kremlin level Propaganda
That headline I expect to see bodies dropping left and right and deliberate fire into the crowd. At no time is there ever clear firing into the crowd and the only confirmed shooting by a soldier is when he is fighting for control of his weapon.

I do hope the Kiev authorities are held accountable for their crimes against Ukrainians.

Also they appear to be using the AK-47/AKM or something. Does any part of the Ukrainian security infrastructure use that or are they all on 5.45 stuff?

Bullshit; bwa ha ha. But honestly I dont expect them to get any form of independence. I think they might be dealt with accordingly.

Hmm, interesting..

A man with cap look like shot in close range too early before lift the air.

Yes, and other side too. They also killed some people too.

Empty Yamaguchi only pops up for victims of the fascist Kiev junta.

Here's a German article on Ukrainian refugees from Crimea. So far 7,200 officially - a number which is Ukr. authorities expect to rise Ukr. 150k. Banks closed with their accounts, can't sell their houses in Crimea..
Their accommodation / state welfare is badly managed, they basically survive on private donations.
Imagine that number in case the South-Eastern conflict keeps heating up? The separatists already catch people who they think speak or look Ukrainian which automatically makes them right sector (see for instance the vice dispatches).
Refugee in your own country - Syria redux.

Not surprising:

Roman Lyagin, 'Donetsk People's Republic' central election committee head, says the status of Donetsk Oblast will remain unchanged after the referendum, Interfax news agency reports. "We just want to declare our right on self-determination. This means status of Donetsk oblast will not be changed after the referendum results are released - we will not stop being a part of Ukraine, we will not become a part of Russia, we will just tell the world that want changes," Lyagin emphasized.

"Maybe, we will remain a part of Ukrainian state, unitarian or federative; maybe, we will become a part of Russia. Maybe, we will become an independent state or a state within a confederative model," he added.

I sincerely hope the Ukrainian government will be able to quell this crisis and be able to maintain his territory in control. What is happening right now is absolutly insane.

Putin may call his army "peace-keepers", claiming that he is liberating Crimea, or using other newspeak words, that doesn't change the fact that he invaded Ukraine.
European countries are rather passive for now (despite the sanctions they claim to take against Russia, they still need ressources from it, and no one wants an escalation to an all-out war, especially because of the threat of the atomic bomb). Sadly, this reminds me of the League of Nations, which was unable to keep the peace and was unable to act in time to stop World War 2 from hatching.

Indeed.

If they're blackwater then their Russian seems to be pretty good. They could very well be the newly formed national guard.

So basically: all will stay the same, but all could change too.

the worst part in all of this is that the presidential election is due in 2 weeks time? and they all seem in a hurry to have those refenderums...

No, he has been replaced. Can't blame him.

I think he's come home for a while, which after two months of solid reporting and being kidnapped, he definitely deserves.

Yeah, Vice probably doesn't want to take any more chances with Simon. He was pushing his luck as it was before he was kidnapped, keeping him reporting there would likely have been a bad idea after he was released.

So basically they held a rigged vote for....nothing at all. Fuck me it's no wonder the russians didn't even bother sending anyone to try and phony legitimise it. It's also no wonder the ukrainians didn't try and stop it by force. It was completely pointless.

No, it was held so that the New York Times would have to write, honestly, that "[t]he referendums demonstrated that there was substantial popular support for the pro-Russian separatists in some areas." It was a demonstration of local support, which was why it was opposed by the West and Kiev authorities.

It's amazing how people here consider themselves as rebels uncovering the truth behind Russia's propaganda but refuse to aknowledge the existence of a western propaganda that is, if not more pregnant, still as effective.
