Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

#1 defender said:
From the start of the beta i never took it as meaning anything else than slowing down the person who is being shot at and english isn't even my native language, so i'm not sure how anyone would come to the conclusion that the booster is adding damage to the bullets (which would be pretty lame anyway). Have you ever noticed how you slow down to a crawl when someone is shooting at you with the AK for example? This booster just increases that effect so people have a harder time running up to you blindfiring while you're shooting them directly. Coming from U2 the meaning seemed obvious to me, nothing misleading about the description.

Call of Duty 4, which came out 4 years ago, and was probably played by millions of people, had a perk, which Uncharted 3 is borrowing, which is called stopping power and did more damage. World at War, which was played by millions, had a perk called stopping power, which was played by millions. Modern Warfare 2, which was played by millions, had a perk called stopping power.

You cant borrow a system to put into your game, take the same perk, put in the description "stopping power", and then tell me it slows the dudes down.

How about

Heavy Bullets - Slows down the enemy when shot

Minor nitpick anyways. But the descriptions have to be re-written anyways. Ping. Adds a radar? People then start to look for a radar on their screen.

A) Is the beta still going and B) do we have any idea when it goes down today/tonight? Haven't had a chance to play the last few days and can't check since I'm at work.

Blindfire damage needs to be lowered for it. Drastically. However, I've been using the sniper against these cheap players and kill them up close. They get so pissed off. lol

This is what people want to do. Aim when by no means should they be aiming. Those people should be kicked from the match and never allowed in a Competitive game type ever again. Aim at medium and long range, not when someone is standing in front of you.

Of course, we might as well make R1 perform a different function when it is not pressed while L1 is being held down.

So what you're saying is that COD games have a perk called stopping power? :)

On a more serious note, i have never played a COD game and have no intention to rectify that, but i can see where the confusion stems from. However, the booster itself isn't called the same as the COD perk and using the words stopping power in the description shouldn't mean that they have to adhere to the way it works in those games, since it isn't a term that has been coined exclusively for the COD series or video games for that matter, as others have pointed out.

Anyway, it does what it says it does (helping you stop opponents in their tracks) and like i said earlier, adding actual damage would be lame, regardless if COD does it or not. Everyone would be using it and ND might as well just lower overall health in that case.

I agree, that one is not much clear.

Also, it looks like once in a while people get to use kickbacks during Hardcore matches.
In one of them yesterday, my brother was getting smoke bombs for some reason, and in another match today I killed two people in a row (in a span of 3-4 seconds) both wielding RPGs. Unless there's a second RPG spawn point in Yemen that I don't know of, I guess one of them was using a kickback.

Also, the ivy next to the Chateau wall when you jump off the ledge with the turret next to the Heroes' starting point, gets in the way of the camera quite often. Once in a while, the camera gets behind it and the whole screen goes grey.

For the final game, please stop fucking putting me in games that are 5 kills away from ending. Thanks.

edit: that buffed up AK47 is just an unbalanced piece of shit, at least the beta is near the end so I won't have to endure its bullshit anymore, but whatever you do ND you cannot leave it like that for the final release.

Something I wanted to add to my list a page back: blindfire.

Aside from the complaints I already had, blindfire is actually an improvement over UC2. In the last game, you could have an enemy behind your back, and you would auto-swivel (say, with a shotgun) to hit them as if you had an aimbot. Now, aiming the cursor seems to actually mean something.

Just as this beta is winding down I'm beginning to get very hooked on it.

I've been a COD addict for a few years now, but I enjoyed the MP in Uncharted 2. I never got truly hooked, but I did spend at least 10 hours on it.

I definitely like the Uncharted 3 beta better than Uncharted 2's multi. All the added elements just make it that much more interesting. Last night was the first time I truly began dominating some matches, and understanding the best ways to play strategically.

It's going to be a long wait til November 1st. :|

Will I be able to play this later tonight? :(

EDIT: The answer is yes, beta ends on thursday... sweet

Excellent. Binging tonight after work.

Small things I would like to see changed:

- I think the paid kickbacks should cost more money. I can see these being abused.
- I wish it was easy to tell if a marked enemy/teammate is above or below me.
- don't know how I feel about losing 3 medals to switch classes.
- Invite notifications aren't as obvious as they should be.
- First part of Airstrip... unbalanced spawns and people often not playing. It's fun when it works though.
- I wouldn't mind if boosters cost more medals, either. Even without stacking.

Can't wait for this game.

oh we (GAF party) lost our 1st Hardcore match since the beta started... SHOCKING ! shaking my head pwonager... something something hardcore mechanics... at least we won the following 4 games in a row against the same guys until they rage quited...

I see everyone is now complaining about the AK... something that should have been done from the start (only because their hate was misplaced in the Micro).

Studio looks for potential four year lifespan instead

Naughty Dog has explained why Uncharted 3's multiplayer won't include dedicated servers.

The studio has responded to a direct fan complaint over Twitter, after revealing that Nathan Drake's third outing will work via peer-to-peer connections.

"We're not going to have dedicated servers, made that decision long time ago + we built the current player host-client architecture," the developer wrote on Twitter.

"Decision for that server architecture was to be better able to support our fans long-term if we can/want.

"The cost delta between dedicated & non-dedicated is huge long term. Eventually someone will say it costs too great + shut them down. My personal hope is that by keeping costs down + strong enough community, we could be in a position to consider 4+ yrs of uptime."

='(

*RAGES*

Well that f*cking sucks to hear (even if old). Dedicated servers would make this game PERFECT.

It was a bad decision IMO. I don’t get this argument about long-term, “4 year” plan stuff. Are you saying that there won’t be another Uncharted for 4 years after UC3 releases?

If there is anything certain about most multiplayer communities, it’s that the majority will play a game for 2 years MAX, then usually move on to the next big thing or something else. It’s very rare that the bulk of a community will stick around playing the same game for 4 years. Just look at the COD community, they move on to a new game every single year.

yep using the AK after the latest patch I've never felt the need to switch over my handgun, I guess I never used it actually... the AK obliterates with a crazy autoaim at short range, you don't even need the classic 'last melee hit' before the kill, just run around in circles with the AK, land 4 bullets with the crazy autoaim and you're good to go.

edit: on dedicated servers, Warhawk has an option for users to set up their own PS3s as dedicated servers for the game, Uncharted 3 could have very well included this option instead of making excuses about costs and the 'possibility' of the community dying, bullshit. Again, look at Warhawk, a 2007 game no less.

I do hate the AK in middle to long range combat though. Doesn't feel good, I'm much better with the three shot gun. Won some FFA matches with it.

EDIT:

Also, you are right about Wowhawk. There's a reason it's named Wowhawk.

well done Seph, I played like 12 FFA games in Yemen yesterday and I won 8-9 just by climbing the towers and pulling the camping noobs posted there... lol, salty tears over the mic nom nom.

and where's the reason why no other dev is copying that model ??? (official dedicated servers for each region + fans/users dedicated servers)

What's with blindfire complaints? Don't let them get close. Afraid they're waiting for you around the corner? Do something about it. There is a balance to it. They obviously got close enough to you... why should they stop and aim?

Yep.

Stupid question time: for the co-op games to count towards the decal unlock, do you need to beat the co-op, or does dying earlier still count?

Aside from the Micro which was insanely good in close quarters (and thankfully got toned down) I have no problem with the hip fire in this game. Forcing people to aim every time would kill the tug of war in objective games when everyone is within 5 feet for 80% of the match.

No, I've had like zero lag issues. I'm referring to how god damn stupid some of the players are. I've almost been screaming at my TV "FUCKING COME TO THE HILL ASSHOLES, I'M BUSTING MY ASS OVER HERE GOD DAMN IT AND THEY'RE RAINING DOWN LIKE HORNETS ON MY ASS" because people won't go to where the game tells them to go. Christ.

The Plunder match I've played where I lost, but my team actually played some fucking Plunder properly, was a lot more enjoyable.

welcome to the new generation of players, Call of Duty 12 year old fans and casual gamers overall who don't know what 'team play' means, just caring about K/D Ratio, cool 'weed' emblems and camping spots, they will team kill you whenever you're about to deliver the idol into the chest thinking you're the enemy then proceeding to carry it in the wrong direction (happened to me today).

I wouldn't worry about these type of players populating Uncharted MP for too long. They will just go right back to COD where they belong as soon as MW3 is released. (i hope)

:'(

Killzone 3 is the perfect example this gen of what can happen if you try to copy the CoD formula...

Well nothing that bad has happened, just teammates using the idol as bait to campsnipe people (but letting me still take the thing). BS is BS though. Ugh.

Case in point: just won a Team Objective match on Yemen. Score: 130. Second closest? 30. Dumbasses. (I think I destroyed the other team with one round of the Sawed Off Shotgun though, lol)

Warzone is great, IMO.

But anyways, I guess the responses in this thread plus the 1 million+ player milestone are good indicators that Naughty Dog were able to successfully generate lots of new interest in the MP mode for UC3.

I count myself among the new converts. Liked UC2 mp but never dedicated much time to it. I can safely say that because of the UC3 beta, I no longer give a shit about any of the other multiplayer games releasing this year. Well, except for Twisted Metal.

Despite being butthurt about no dedicated servers, I will probably still be playing the shit out of UC3 for a good long while.

Why should they come to the hill when they can stay in one corner on the opposite side of the map, camping with a sniper rifle to kill those who might happen to respawn there?

Also...

Anyone?

Well, I think the wording they used was "Complete 5 matches in every mode of Cooperative Multiplayer"

Could be wrong, but I'm assuming that the word "complete" implies that you have to successfully finish them/be alive when it ends.

Because outside of deathmatch, that's what every mode becomes. It's seriously the micro all over again. It's not hard to get behind/close to someone in this game because it's not like the maps are empty. In Objective games, this is even more apparent. Why bother aiming anyway when it'll do it for you and probably be better than if you actually tried to aim? But but close combat...no one fucking used this tactic in UC2 a lot with the AK47 like they are here even IN UC2's Team Objective mode.

Man fuck that throw back grenade button. A 2 week beta and I still haven't been successful with it, it feels like the area where you can press triangle is one pixel wide.

These are going to be my go to online games

Uncharted 3
Street Fighter III Online Edition
Twisted Metal

Are all going to be my go to online multiplayer games this fall, though I am interested in Battlefield 3, but I fear Uncharted 3 may satisfy my online shooter needs. However next year I plan to mainly play Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2 (if they come out), I will probably have only time to try out 2 console online games, and that would probably be Street Fighter X Tekken and Starhawk.

Yea, I've never done it ever. It's safer to just roll out of the way. The area to throw back the grenade needs to REALLY be expanded.

Nope, it's fine as is. A well-placed grenade throw should be rewarded most of the time.

yeah it doesn't really work, but that's a good thing.
