Was really blown away by the tech prowess of ND in UC4, even to date.

For example, I still haven't seen many other developers pulling off this nice smooth animation of taking off the jacket.

It's a bug with texture streaming in bond, look into Graphics thread.

I took all my screenshots from that "PS6 level" from epilogue, everything looks ok until you look closer. Some rose tinted glasses here...

Uncharted has much better animations - that's for sure.
Yeah, I know. You misintepreted what I said, or I just failed to expain properly.

There's PS6-like assets in Uncharted 4 when the level isn't as heavy as the last, house level. I'll post some when I'll be able to boot the game.

But here's an example, not necessarily "PS6" but that's all I've got at the moment, look at the perfectly round, high-res bottle caps here:

Look at the screws on the stair's junction.

Or these deformable, interactable, iron cups.

In other scenes, true, the game assets when looked too close they reveal the optimization efforts, like the metal shower caddy isn't really round.. but is it really important when from a normal distance they look like this?

Or the Mac, of which keyboard is actually mostly flat.

Also, there are definitely shots in James Bond where the RTGI shines through and you can see the lighting in Uncharted 4 is dated by today's standards.

But Uncharted 4 is so consistent and ND have a nose for cinematic presentation most simply don't have.
This is a day scene vs a night scene in uncharted. If RTGI was what you wanted to show off, this is definitely not the example to do it.

HDR is gimped though in 120fps. Sony not allowing full HDMI 2.1 output was such a lame call.
Didn't know that. I've always thought that the U4 HDR implementation was very mediocre anyways, which is weird considering ND pedigree (no pun intended) so I dont think people are missing that much by sticking to SDR

and you forgot money...the same with Rockstar games...
Yes, of course, but Rockstar is just a different animal that comes out every 10 years. They're simply a level above everyone else when it comes to technology.

I agree.

Another thing that Uncharted 4 has - plants physics. Pretty much every plant, bush or tree react to the player, very few games try to replicate this and not even one of them is on the same level.

Is it a bug? Because that's the defense I see every time those blurry disgusting textures come up. "Oh, it's a streaming bug," or the textures don't load properly. Problem is, I never see the "non-bugged" textures and this never gets fixed whether it's in Nioh 3 or Black Myth Wukong. Can we actually get the correct textures in James Bond or is it just something they forgot to implement in those instances?

But for final consensus, more people need to reach this level and take ss (including me).

Haven't watched the video yet but all the gameplay clips I've seen of 007 and I intend to get it, it doesn't look anywhere near as good as Uncharted 4 imo as far as I can remember it, been a year or two since I replayed it, 007 to me looked the closest to an uncharted game I've seen yet gameplay wise but IO just don't have those ND chops

Nope, definitely not night. It's the late afternoon or maybe early evening, but the sun is still out at that time in Uncharted 4.

I think it's worth mentioning 007 is going to get a Path Tracing update on PC.
It won't improve animations but it's for sure going be a generation ahead Uncharted 4, technically.

What chapter is this, without spoiling, I might be getting the game on Xbox today and will gladly take some there when I reach. Hopefully it's early on.

What's the BGM playing at various points in the video but this is a good timestamp:

? It's so familiar but I can't remember what it's from.

I think you're incorrect. Shortly after that scene in Uncharted, Drake goes outside and it's dark. Literally night.
No, it's a while after. You go through the sequence of sneaking around to find the breaker and shut it down.

Look at the window. There's still sunlight.

Honestly bald chick wouldn't be a problem if she didn't clearly didn't have such a WELL THAT HAPPENED! Personality shining through.
And that proves how damn amazing the facial capture and animations are if you see the attitude she has got (we also have zero context behind her attitude so it could be well founded)

This thread triggered me unreasonably. Like, irritated me. I'm logging off.

Naughty Dog are a top end studio with massive budgets and direct access to most Sony in-house tech.

IOI are not that. The fact we've even got something close to an Uncharted game should be praised, especially since ND don't seem interested anymore.

I know for a fact that Uncharted 4 does not have the rotten textures Vick Vick posted. Are those from the video? What the fuck did they do to get stuff looking like that?
Apparently they can look a little better on PC, but the DF video shows those are the kind of extremely low res assets you get on console.

Have you checked after the patch? John said the latest patch resolved some of them, seemingly a loading issue.

Just leave them both be, appreciate that we get to play both of them, I grew up playing on an Atari 2600 and I got to play Uncharted, 2, 3 and 4 and Firstlight and I'm grateful for it.

They can both look exquisite, they can both look poor but ultimately they both look amazing unless you scrutinise to the nth degree and zoom in 20 x to see if the texture on a plant under the water is high res or low res.

stills wont do justice, ND is in its own league when it comes to animation
nice effort from IO though, they definitely got out of their comfort zone. instead of chickening out of this exact comparison like machinegames's first person indy lol
probably will end up selling much better for it too.

I think that just goes to show how bad and unrealistic current lighting techniques are.

Shitty comparison, DF is getting desperate.

I think UC4 is more impressive which is crazy since it came out 10 years ago, there are areas where it looks outdated but I still think it's better overall. I wish we were getting an Uncharted 5 instead of Intergalactic to be honest.

Uncharted looks better IMO. ND are head and shoulders best in class when it comes to graphics and animation on consoles.

Uncharted games are corridors with barely anything going on, doesn't this game simulate a shitton of people around and millions of possibilities in how you handle the situations... That plus diminishing return, I think it's consistent with what it should deliver
