She says they just hooked up a revamped PC so my guess is she's talking about getting all of that sorted out, gpu drivers and downloading directx and whatnot, just a guess.

You do get patches through their client.
Yeah it should install the patch first then download it instead.

This really didn't need it's own topic.
Yeah, it seems she isn't commentating on Uplay. But even then, graphics websites are the only one you really need to go on (unless you install off the disc then enable Geforce/Raptr auto update). Everything else comes from Windows Updates, and DirecrX is usually with the game download. Oh, and Uplay or Steam etc.
Non-issue, and the topic started on the wrong foot.

I feel like it's pretty lazy to cite uplay as the reason for not bothering with PC gaming.

DirectX stuff comes with the game. I don't think I've ever had to do that manually.
Drivers could be, but I mean, if you like "convenience" I'm pretty sure most cards still come with a disk with some basic drivers that will auto-update once its done. And what's shady about downloading drivers from an official site anyway? The NVIDIA client thingie usually does it for you and even configures your game settings where applicable.
It's a dumb complaint that hasn't been true for many years now.
I mean, if she's complaining just about time on something that's basically supposed to do the same thing it'd do on a console then why's she complaining?
im giving her base credit here and assuming the Uplay client is fucking up on her, like it did on The Crew beta for me
im potentially wrong, of course, but I can't understand what she means otherwise

Eh, look at the people who agree with her, AND she works at Gametrailers. She knows her audience.
I remember when I had to manually DL a patch for Splinter Cell Blacklist. When I transferred my install for Farcry 4 to a different PC the interface on Uplay, achievements, and cloud saves broke and stopped syncing for whatever reason. Uplay is the worst most inconsistent shit but it's the cheapest option for Ubisoft games at launch.
At this point I'm probably better off just buying the PS4 version for anything Ubi.

Only thing I can think of is the uplay client, which you have to download through their website. Far from "shady downloads".

I wonder what her issue with uplay is though. It has been fine after AC4 when they fixed patching system.

it must be something else for the PC, because the RB6 alpha is done through the client automatically.

Seriously though, Uplay does sometimes suck when it comes to patching. Some of the newer titles not so much but I remember uplay downloading like 5 patches for Splinter Cell Blacklist and install them all separately one by one. Why? Why not just install the newest one and be done with it.

Oh, uplay is far from good, but she wants to install the Rainbow Six alpha, nothing like that would happen here, she's apparently tired of waiting for an hour for this game to download/update, whatever.

If I'm not mistaken this is a woman who was on Weekend Confirmed after E3 a few years back and said she was impressed with Need For Speed (I think it was the really bad one with the on foot parts). When someone else on the podcast (probably Garnett) pressed her on why she finally admitted "because the team was really nice and enthusiastic and I want them to do well" (paraphrased)
So I would take just about anything she says with a grain of salt.
