Uplay stop making PC games look bad - Andrea Rene edition

To be fair, the last game I had that experience with was Mass Effect 2 and that was 2010.

Before Origin becoming EA's main platform for PC titles, if you bought a Bioware game from somewhere else than Steam, yes you had to manually download the patch and apply it.
But at least BioWare hosts all their patches on their own website so it's not all that shady :P

Judging an entire platform based on Uplay functionality and Ubisoft games seems like a sure fire way to come to that conclusion. Shame she doesn't seem to see how most PC folks don't care as much about Ubisoft and Uplay because of this and mostly play games outside of that.

By all means though, if you like and have to play Ubisoft games, a console is the better bet

You lack a brain in general, if you actually believe that playing on PC is convenient...
Update here
Driver there
Motion Joy here
Fraps there
Temp in the corner
Settings...see how it runs...back to settings....see how it runs...back to settings.

My PC is strictly meant for porn now.

It's convenient as hell.

Drivers auto update for GPU, Games auto update in all modern clients.

Motion joy is if you want to use an unsupported device on pc, grab a Xbox Controller if you want ease.

Temp in the corner for what exactly I've never used this in my life.

Fraps if you want a framerate counter.

Auto detect settings are optimal. If you have a shif pc then fine tune for what you like. I'll take options over its like this deal with it.

DirectX stuff comes with the game. I don't think I've ever had to do that manually.

Drivers could be, but I mean, if you like "convenience" I'm pretty sure most cards still come with a disk with some basic drivers that will auto-update once its done. And what's shady about downloading drivers from an official site anyway? The NVIDIA client thingie usually does it for you and even configures your game settings where applicable.

It's a dumb complaint that hasn't been true for many years now.

I used directx as an example, but when was the last time you had to redo a computer from scratch? It's a pain in the ass getting all the software again and that's when I have everything on USB and discs, so if she's not just talking about getting a game set up through U play (for all I know she is) but getting a PC set up, especially for someone who isn't used to dealing with it, can be a hassle that consoles make look easy. For a console, it tells you you need to update or install something and all you do is press okay, be that for games or system software. All you have to do is wait.

There's a reason why people want to pay someone like Alienware for their prebuilt PC's that are most often expensive as shit.

She's an idiot, but so are other console only gamers.
They won't listen and just spout misinformation as if it were fact.

On top of Andrea's hilarious gaffes, we have this gem and it's fantastic response. Thread has delivered!

I dont have the luxury of; Starting a game, Maxing out everything & Ready to go!
I have to tamper with my PC.
To make sure
A) I get good frames
B) My PC wont burst into flames (Sarcasm)

Or you could just run it in console mode and put everything at low settings

Of course my PC is crap...If it wasn't an outdated PC, I wouldn't have this problem.
Point being - Andrea can pop in a game on her console and be ready to play.

Having to tamper with the settings is a non-issue on consoles

then again she did say this

so uh.. I dunno

Uh... I thought Ubisoft fixed that by making every future post-TC'sSC:Blacklist Uplay title patch a la Steam?

Then again: It's a fucking pre-alpha what the fuck does she expect? Total autonomy?

can this be locked now

I mean, sure? I said as much. if the mods feel the discussion is veering towards pointless arguments or hate-talk then lock it down

you're not one of them, tho. news flash

already wasted 2 posts on it, including the first reply

Steam has the same problems or at least did with continually installing stuff even when it seems the file was finished downloading.

Uplay has some problems with it.

Plus they are dealing with an Alpha not a full game.

Also computers are really easy now to setup from a fresh installation

Use Windows Updates
Ninite
Graphics Card Driver (Though Windows Update seems to cover this now)
Antivirus

You are done.

I'm not particularly a "PC Guy" but that's fucking nonsense. Consoles can be just as much of a massive pain in the ass.

I've never experienced any nightmares on consoles like I have with some PC titles.

I spent $120 on Battlefield 4 + Premium and the game doesn't even launch, it just crashes to desktop. Reimaged my system and updated all drivers to no avail. EA claims it's a graphics card issue and won't refund me. That does not happen to me on my consoles.

Many Steam games that are old don't work at all on modern systems until you go in and change config files or download unofficial fan patches.

There's tons more. I love my PC but saying consoles can be just as painful is ridiculous. There's way more factors in play with PCs and as a result there's far more potential for complications.

By all means though, if you like and have to play Ubisoft games, a console is the better bet

definitely not true if you have anything close to a decent rig. this myth about uplay being utterly nonfunctional should really stop. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=510549

geforce experience offers optimal settings with a couple of clicks, you might wanna keep an extinguisher nearby just in case though, PCs catch fire all the time ( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)

The last time I re-installed windows, it seemed like Windows itself basically downloaded everything I needed. I'm pretty sure you just have to download the Steam client and log in and that's it!

It's a non issue on PC if you ignore them and let optimal take their place.

Hey now

This is totally wrong. We are the one who respect, honor, and recognize games the most.

Games are not commodities to be fought over. We help them to get the care, love, and attention they deserve. This is not dumb or weird.

Video games, some of them are the most amazing, fun, worthwhile, and precious things in the world. They made our life that much more meaningful and completed. Without them we have no reason to live in this cold and selfish planet. So what's wrong that we do a little to simply our experience with the games who saved us?

Just saying if we are all a bit more respectful or thoughtful or understanding our world would be a much better place. Games they are our guide and inspiration so we appreciate them and want to play them simply, that's all

There are legitimate grievances that come with PC gaming, the open nature of the platform can introduce more technical problems. That's a legitimate thing to complain about.

What is odd is that her actual complaints either are far from exclusive to PC (when she used it as an example as to why she mainly just uses consoles) or haven't actually been relevant for 10-15 years, seriously.

PC gaming is horrible

Driver Update
Windows Update
GeForce Experience
Disk Defragging
All those antivirus programs who wants to search my PC 24/7 while using 90% of my processor power

List is long.

Been a console gamer since 2002 and still going strong. No problem with 720p and 30 FPS either.

As long as she buys a new console to keep playing the newer games.

Many Steam games that are old don't work at all on modern systems until you go in and change config files or download unofficial fan patches.

Try to put a SNES cartridge on a Wii U. Obviously it will never be perfect, but at least you can work around it.

Nothing is perfect, it's just the misinformation that some people eat up that kinda sucks. I don't see any problem in what she tweeted, but some people might as well use it as an argument about why consoles are better.

It sounds like you haven't used a PC since 2002 either.

Installing GTA V on my ps4 was total fucking ordeal. Installing TLOU took for-fucking-ever and my connection is perfectly good.

It ain't "the PC" its UBI, which is another reason I rarely buy their games (Valiant Hearts notwithstanding!). And what the hell are "shady downloads"? Is UBI including the "Ask toolbar" with its patches now?!

That's a silly argument. Almost no one is going to expect an SNES cartridge to work on a WiiU.

It's extremely easy to buy a title from Steam without knowing it will not work on your system.

PC gaming has many faults these are not them.

Is PC gaming better than it was 10 years ago? Absolutely, miles better. Is it as convenient and "simple" as consoles? Not even close.

Steps to play a game on console:

1) Start console
2) Insert disc/download game, possibly install
3) Play

Steps to play a game on a fresh Windows PC:

1) Start PC
2a) Maybe need to install shop client (Steam/Origin/uPlay/etc)
2b) Install game from shop, disc, or its own installer
3) Play

I'd say its pretty close.

OMG this! PC gaming would be SO much better if I didn't have to defrag my hard drive every time I open Steam.

Not if you know how to read. You are playing on a PC, you should read the requirements.

Does it need to be as "simple" and convenient as a console though? With steam and origin being what they are, how much more simple do you need to make it? They are literally click and play.

Still not a massive pain in the ass, especially compared to this gen.

While PC gaming is becoming more convenient, consoles from 10 years ago were A LOT simpler than consoles from now.

You can no longer say they're pick up and play.

Agreed on the console front, the fact games can now crash to the dashboard with an error code is just making them more like PCs. And I'm not saying PC gaming is always a massive pain, I'm saying it CAN be. 95% of my PC titles work fine, but there are some that are a nightmare.

And no I'm not a moron, I know how to update my video drivers and check windows error logs and google error codes to see what's causing them.
