VGTech's COD Cold War 120FPS mode comparison

From VGTechs video description:

The versions tested were 1.004.000 on PS5 and 1.0.3.0 on Xbox Series X|S (both were using the latest version at the time of testing). The 120fps mode was captured at 1080p.

Ray tracing was enabled in the 60fps mode tested on PS5 and Xbox Series X which uses a form of ray tracing for certain shadows.

Xbox Series S doesn't have a 120fps mode or a ray tracing mode. 0:00 - PS5 120fps and Xbox Series X 120fps 7:30 - PS5 RT, Xbox Series X RT and Xbox Series S

There was an issue on PS5 where the frame rate could randomly drop below 60fps during scenes that it previously ran at a solid 60fps. This issue wasn't encountered on Xbox Series X. https://bit.ly/2IHsqPN

Both PS5 and Series X in the ray tracing mode use a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 3840x2160 and the lowest resolution found being 1920x1800. PS5 at 120fps, Series X at 120fps and Series S use a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 2560x1440 and the lowest resolution found being 1280x1200. PS5 at 120fps, Series X at 120fps and Series S use a form of temporal reconstruction to reconstruct the horizontal resolution up to 2560 when the horizontal resolution is below this figure.

Both consoles aren’t running it well both have screen tearing ever where
Screen tearing is way lower than AC with PS5 having a very little less than Xbox.
Framerate a bit better on PS5.
That is the 120fps mode.

60fps mode is nearly identical.
No tearing.
60fps 99.9% of time.

That is probably the best multiplatform perform in both until now... I’m really impressed.

I would be impressed at dynamic 4k, 60FPS and Ray tracing if tryhard studios did know how to make good modern looking visuals

Let me guess one console is doing better again even with suppose “weak” hardware?
Well, better is a big word... but considering the expectations, better than expected (or not as good as expected depending where you come from, I think it's more disappointment on one side that had realistic expectations and people who are just happy there will be much less warring/trolling for the next couple of years).

We know now, these consoles are practically equals, so if you shop for superficial specs you get 12tf on one side and no actual benefits for it (especially in 60fps mode). The differences are so small, there is no reason it would be an argument at this point, so let's argue for the catalogs:

1 - PS5 launches along many new games that show off its capabilities (cross gen sure, but at least there is something new)
2 - Sony has x number of studios with proven track records
3 - MS bought a million studios, but as a games publisher they seem like they break their studio's potential for whatever behind the scene reason... but given the large number there is a good chance that something good comes out just by chance

Another case of the XSX struggling more than the PS5 to reach 120fps consistently. In the most demanding situations the PS5 is about 10% ahead in framerate (but also not maintaining 120).

The 60 fps mode seems pretty much flawless on both though (but the S is struggling), so for most people this won't actually matter.

But yeah, that 2TF advantage still not making itself known.

Would not read too much into any of it to be honest....first week of console launches always have issues from a system and software point of view
need to give it a few weeks for both to stabilise before anyone should be banging their drums

Seems like there are smaller differences at the beginning of this gen than last gen. COD being the one that I remember the most due to "resolution gate".

Nothing is going to happen in three weeks.

Cyberpunk 2077 face-offs will be here around then, showing PS5 with better performance again.

Don't disagree here. but the fact that it actually comes down to software/SDK differences speaks heaps. What Sony has been able to extract from the weaker (spec wise) GPU and a slower memory bus.

There's only one mode worthy of discussion, what can be said about the 60FPS mode being the same on both?

I'm suggesting that perhaps naming the thread "VGTech COD Cold War Frame Rate test" might have been a more accurate way of naming the thread, rather than only mentioning one mode tested?

There's not really much of anything to discuss in either case. The 120fps mode is awful for both consoles with high screen tearing and frame rate dips everywhere. The 60fps with RT mode is great on both consoles.

Nothing is going to happen in three weeks.

Since there isn't any next gen patches coming until next year, Cyberpunk 2077 will only run on XsX/PS5 in BC mode. I'm not sure anyone would want to call victory on that prematurely.
