It should be standard in every school. Not for disciplining students (that's absurd, and this situation is awful), but for protecting them.

Protecting? If only. It's pretty clear that the rise of police in schools is to facilitate channeling young brown men into the penal system more quickly. Offenses that used to net you a visit to the principal's office or detention when I was a kid are now arrestable offenses in inner city schools.
