What game do you regret buying!!!!

Bloodborne....I bought into the hype and hate the game.

Kind of this. Basically I love everything about the game except actually playing it. I've read all about the lore and all that and it's awesome but I just don't enjoy playing it or any other Souls game at all.

1. Battlefront - shallow, barebones experience that requires little to no skill.

2. Arkham Knight - Just a bad game in my honest opinion. It's one of the few times in which I've really wanted the experience to end. Never bothered getting 100% bat tank was terrible.

3. Fallout 4 - will go back to it at some point but the game didn't pull me in after about 6 hours and I just never went back.

4. Destiny - had such promise after playing the alpha but the game just didn't deliver. The loop was fine but the lack of content was not.

5. Driveclub - Racing games just ain't for me unfortunately.

Killzone Shadow Fall. Mostly positive reviews from the major outlets so I thought I'd give it a try. I was a big fan of Killzone 2 and 3 so it seemed like an obvious choice.

Pros:
-Absolutely gorgeous visuals.
-Fun multiplayer

Cons: Basically almost everything else
-Awful voice acting
-The game knows it's pretty. Sometimes it'll stop the action, even in the middle of a conversation, just so you can look at the scenery (painfully obvious during the second mission).
-The controls feel so heavy, even for a Killzone game. The touchpad, while a cool concept, was super unreliable. I can't count how many times my thumb would rub up against the touchpad while I was moving forward and I'd pull my OWL out to defend or something.
-The soundtrack was non-existent. Basically just low bass booms that bumped together like a heartbeat.
-The story was incredibly dumb. The "twist" at the end was so obvious it hurt.
-The gameplay was frustrating as hell. So much trial and error (looking at you final mission) that I contemplated giving it up.

Overall, not my jam. I can see why people like the multiplayer but I'm not a multiplayer gamer. I think most of the positive reviews stemmed from not having many "next gen" shooters available to compare to. Just my take, anyways.

Edit: Forgot about the section where they try to throw emotions at you with the whole segregated sections of Vekta.

Also, why the hell would you win a war against the Helghans, invite them back to your place, and then let them keep all their weapons/gear for them to shoot at and kill/bully whoever they want??? I've never had a wtf moment within the first 5 minutes of a game until Shadow Fall.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow. Felt like I got duped from all the marketing behind the game. Never finished it.

The Witcher 3 was a game I tried my hardest to get into. Sunk about 12-15 hours into it but it just couldn't hold my attention. Definitely wish I had that $60 back, but whatever.

Oh yeah, GTA V. The story was boring even though it started off great.

So to conclude,

GTA V
MGS V
Fallout 4

Damn you AAA games.

I regret buying CS:GO. It's definitely not a bad game, it's just not for me. Most of my FPS experience is on consoles and my mouse accuracy is not great, so I end up doing really poorly. Even though I never played long enough to get yelled at for being bad, I just felt terrible about not contributing anything so I just stopped playing after a few games.

Master Chief Collection. I had high hopes.... so much high hopes and I was let down.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

This game feels like "New Super Mario Bros." paper edition. I'm one of the people who didn't mind Super Paper Mario, but Sticker Star is by far my least favorite Nintendo game. Everything that made the old games unique was taken away and replaced with bland Mario stuff. No memorable characters, no plot, no witty dialogue, just stickers.

Biggest disappointment in my life as far as games go.

Arkham City. I was excessively hyped after Asylum and not really well informed. But anyways, so hyped that I decided to preorder the physical edition.

- It the end it was more expensive than the PC version due to price changes
- It arrive one week after the game's release.
- The physical version came with GFWL instead of Steamworks
- It was buggy as heck and the patch released for Steam took a long time until it came for the retail version.
- I had considerable problems to run it even on low, even if I was using a second card just for physX at that time.
- It was far more stealth, to a point I did not like
- It was a fucking OPEN WORLD SANDBOX now.

Biggest regret I've ever had on a game purchase, hate played from beggining to end. I even found NeverDead sorta more enjoyable.

Other big regrets?

- Tomb Raider II (hyped about a lot of things, found controls were clunky as heck and pc video compresion was awful)
- Alone in the Dark for GBC (Barely could hit anything during the random battles)
- Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies (Fuck you Apollo)

Oh yeah, GTA V. The story was boring even though it started off great.

So to conclude,

GTA V
MGS V
Fallout 4

Damn you AAA games.

Oh fuck I forgot about MGSV.

I actually don't regret that one though. It showed me that even someone held in such high esteem as Kojima can occasionally fuck up so, so, so badly, and then I feel better about myself.

<Insert name of popular game here>

<Insert controversial opinion to try to sound edgy here>

I'm feeling a lot more honesty in this thread than people trying to sound edgy.

A lot of games get hyped and marketed at release, or get big discounts that are hard to pass up. People buy into it, and then realize the game isn't for them. Based on this thread, it seems to happen a lot.

Last of Us Remastered.

Can't play that game more than once. Loses all the impact.
So you bought it once, played it, I assume you even enjoyed it, and you regret buying it because it was so good the first time you don't feel like replaying it? Is that it?

For me I have a three that come to mind. From older to less old:

Yoshi's Story on N64 (1998)
The very first videogame I ever bought with my own money that I felt regret of buying. Coming off from 1995's masterpiece Yoshi's Island there I was half an hour after I started playing Yoshi's Story for the first time fresh from the store staring at the credits listening to that godawful ending song (the one with all the Yoshis "singing"). 30 minutes that's all it took for me to beat the 4 levels required to battle baby Bowser and won. Horrible music, okay graphics, zero atmosphere, piss easy difficulty, uber kiddified everything (I was 12 and I still thought it was too kiddy!), it was a colossal letdown. I couldn't believe I paid $60 in 1998 dollars for it. I ended up selling it and bought Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon with its money. Best exchange I've ever done in my gaming life. And I've yet to buy any other game from that series which, sadly, never got near to the SNES iteration.

The Bouncer on PS2 (2001)
Bought it thinking it was going to be a Final Fight-esque beat em' up with cutting edge PS2 graphics and a 4P local multiplayer option. Similar to Yoshi's Story all it took was 30 minutes on my first play through fresh from the store to finish it. Thankfully the PS2 multitap got more use than what little time I used it for The Bouncer. I too ended up selling it. So much for Squaresoft's first PS2 endeavor.

TMNT2: Battle Nexus on GC (2004)
Being a huge TMNT fan and having loved every single Konami made TMNT game from the 90s I didn't hesitate to buy the first 3D TMNT game made from Konami that features 4 player option. Sadly it was a mediocre mess. All 4 turtles shared the same life bar, the camera sucked, the hit detection was horrible, and the level design and music were completely forgettable. The best part was that it included the original arcade game as an unlockable... too bad it lacked any of the original music from that game.

Recently - Arkham Knight and Fallout 4. MGSV is severely flawed, but I had a lot of fun with the gameplay and the first act is pretty great.

Dark Souls 2
Killzone Shadow fall
Arkham Knight
MGS5 (not as much as the others... but considering that MGS is my favorite series in gaming and how this was the last one, I expected much more...)

I only regret games I pay MSRP for. My usual entry is ~ $20, and at that price, I have on regrets if the game is garbage. So, my list of MSRP games I regret buying:

Galactic Civ 2 (PC) = I'm part of the 1% that thinks this is the worst 4x space game ever made. There's absolutely NOTHING likeable in this game. The techs suck, the races suck, the ship design sucks, the UI sucks. MoO 1 is the only game that got 4x right, and the only game that has even come close since 1993 is Sword of the Stars 1. Every other contender is has been garbage.

Warhawk (PS3) = Just didn't click for me. Prob only played this game for about 1-2 hours. And never again.

Forza 2 (Xbox 360) = After playing GT5 and enjoying it, I thought I'd like this game. Played it for 30 min then never again.

MGSV, but it was too long to consider renting

Arkham Knight - should have rented it

And while I didn't buy it, I just finished Devil's Third and it was a waste of money to even rent it

I recently bought Modern Warfare 3 just because I wanted to finish the Single Player.

It was shit, nowhere near the other two campaigns. Barely enjoyed it and felt I wasted my time.
The people that made them good were busy making Titanfall/getting sued by Activision.

Rockband 4
Had a hard time having fun with that. Sold it 2 weeks after launch and got Guitar Hero Live like a month later. Luckily that one felt a bit fresher.

The Witness
Buying it was a total dumbo move on my part. Got swept up in the hype and temporarily forgot I don't actually like puzzle games.
Asked Humble Store for a refund like two weeks ago, which I remembered just now and I should probably search my inbox for a response on that, aaaand there's nothing.

Never mind, I no longer regret buying The Witness.
Resurrected the email thread and got a refund. Didn't expect to actually get one, considering I'd redeemed the code, so that's nice of them. Also it's gosh darn Saturday innit?

I'm always weirded out by when they take pity on/goodwill you and give you the refund despite the code having been redeemed, and the game remains in your Steam library. Don't feel right. But apparently Valve is just not involved with these refunds at all. It seems that as far as Valve is concerned, the transaction remains completed.

Cool. Kind of a weird boilerplate message though. Makes it seem a not necessarily official way of handling third party refunds.

The second Oreshika finished downloading and I launched it, I knew I made a huge mistake.

But number one is Demon Gaze. I really despise that game. I finished it where I haven't finished a few other games in the same genre that I don't despise... but I despise this one.

Edit: Multiple W101 mentions just on this page? Watch a combat tutorial. It's not that hard to get good enough to have fun with normal. Game has one of the best finales to any game I ever played. I can't prove this to you scientifically but I could build a strong case.

Bloodborne....I bought into the hype and hate the game.

Its a fantastic game that is absolutely not for everyone. Hate when Souls games come up as suggestions in "what to buy" threads for people who clearly wouldnt like a Souls game.

In other news. I regret spending full price on Arkham Knight. Which is a shame because it really is the best Arkham ame by a country mile, but really felt very samey especially after Origins. Game is great though.

Recent picks.

Just Cause 3 - nowhere near as fun as JC2 with awful performance and a lot of graphic options that don't work.

Arkham Knight - like a bad ps1/ps2 car combat game thinly veiled as a batman game.

Fallout 4 - I'm not even big on Bethesda games but this one heavily reduced the things about them I did like.

From the past.

Mass Effect 3 - I replayed the crap out of the first two, about 17 times for the original but after 3 I never touched them again so it killed that for me.

Fable 2 - loved the first few hours but hated the rest of the game from there. The ending sealed the deal.

Too Human - 5 awful uninspired levels and a loot grind that puts Destiny to shame. 60 second forced wait on Death for a dumb animation and a story that only starts when the game ends. Oh and no camera control at all. Fuck everything about this game other than the norse mythology.

I'm sure there's other worse purchases I've made too if I were to have a hard think back to the NES/Mega Drive (Genesis) days.

Final Fantasy XII
I absolutely hate the battle system. It felt like a weird mix of active time battle (because of the time gauge) and... somewhat action because you could walk around? Which didn't do anything at all. It just felt weird. I turned if off after ~2-3 hours and never touched it again.

69€ for The Order 1886

Not gonna repeat the same reasons on why it sucked for the 10th time

69€ ?? Holy shit. Was that a special collector's edition or something? Or are new releases that ridiculously priced in Europe? I managed to buy a copy for €20 in Belgium a month after the release and I found even that overpriced for what the game turned out to be.

Shit I have that game so purged from my mind I forget it exists. I too regretted this purchase (and it was the LE!!) and never finished it.

I played FFXII fresh off a 2 year addiction to FFXI Online. I hated how FFXII was an offline version of XI in everything but name. The thing I hated the worst was the gambit system. You were miserable if you didn't took time to play being a programmer and once you did the game would literally play itself. I turned it off when I realized all I did for an hour in a dungeon was move the left analog stick and my party would do everything. It boggles my mind why so many people liked this system. Hands down the absolute worst battle system in any FF. I'll take Mystic Quest's battle system than XII, at least there you have control over both party members. Christ!

Within the past year:

-Fallout 4 (one of the worst rpg open world experiences yet!)
-The Order 1886
-Street Fighter V (I knew I should have waited)
-Endless legend(I just wanted civ with elves, this seems to be more than I bargained for...)
-Gran tourism 6 (probably the most sterile and dull sim driving experience I've played! Huge amount of content ruined by lack of AI and a dull event grind.)
-MKX (loved mk9, could not get into this at all)

Master Chief Collection. Don't really have to explain this one too much. I wish they would have just ported each game individually.

Halo 5. Now I don't necessarily regret playing it since I've played and beaten every Halo (even on Legendary) but Halo 5 just doesn't do it for me. I keep forcing myself to play it hoping the magic returns but its just not for me anymore. Plus the microtransactions are some of the worse I've ever seen in a retail video game.

Destiny. Should have waited a year before jumping in.

All of these games were digital purchases as well which made it sting even more that I couldn't recoup my loses. Oh well. Though it's made me a lot more suspect into buying games day 1 full price which is probably a good thing. Live and learn!

Destiny, game is designed around getting players addicted instead of fun mechanics and it plays that way. Will definitely skip Destiny 2.

Battlefront, gameplay is paper thin, hoping potential DLC makes the game more enjoyable, Battlefield DLC was pretty decent so there's potential there.

Monster hunter 4 loved 3 and spent alot of time on that one. But I was suppose to play 4 with a friend and he flopped. Ended up playing the game like once the traded it in for same price I bought it at

Far Cry 4. Yea it's pretty but the gameplay seemed like a carbon copy of Far Cry 3 and it has the typical Ubisoft world map littered with menial filler content. I got about halfway through the main quest and completely lost interest.

Pretty much any multiplayer shooter or fighting game, always say I will try to play them often and try to get good at them, but rarely do. Will probably repeat the cycle if I cave and buy SFV once the server issues are sorted out.

Star Control 3.

Also I almost bought Deus Ex: Invisible War back in the day until they came out with that demo a few days before release. That was a close call.
