White Knight Chronicle Site Updated w/ message from Mr. Hino~

People need to be reminded that Hino LOVES overhyping shit, remember RG? Yeah.

He is the japanese equivalent of Peter Molyneux. Well, not on that level, but close.

I don't get Level-5 lovers, really... They have yet to make a good game, yet they are heralded as a top RPG studio. 'The new Square' they say. Square didn't make itself huge by making crappy games and having a fanbase without any taste, so I think the situation is quite different here.

It's called preference, I've been left disappointed by more or less all of tri-Ace's products, that doesn't mean I should disregard tri-Ace's talent as developer, simply because others don't feel the same way.

hmm, this will be interesting.

so they didn't design layton now? who did then?
The puzzles were created and supervised by some dude that specializes on that type of puzzles.

I believe ALL of the puzzles in Layton are from his books.

Level 5 did art design, programming, story stuff.

Was able to procure the dengeki scans and here is the new info for WKC

-First RPG on the market to be native 1080p
-Storyline quality on par with that of DQ series story lines
-Image quality approaching that of Final Fantasy
-Aspects reminiscent of Monster Hunter

Erm, is that a good thing? That the storyline quality is on par with a DQ game?

Level-5 makes good RPGs with shitty stories and too classic gameplay. Level-design in RG's donjons was terrible.
Theses areas needs to be improved and maybe we'll have some great title.

didn't you way overhype IU though, and even you seemed disappointed....

its his game, why wouldnt he try and sell it? its not like he has said any molyneux level of hyperbole... Also, we have seen almost nothing of the game apart from very stripped back gameplay from last e3, so its impossible to say whether the game will live up to the promise.

Also, despite your own feelings, level 5 have had quite a lot of critical success and they are pretty highly rated...actually, the past few games they have been involved with have scored higher than many of tri aces last few games...even RG

What'd he say about Rogue Galaxy that po'ed everyone? (I kinda liked it, actually)

I think he said something along the lines of.. RG would be as good as a FF game, and it will be their big new RPG franchise.. or something. :lol

Just.. make Dark Cloud 3. And follow the same formula as 2, maybe even better. That'll be peaches. Rogue Galaxy was shitty.. Dark Cloud 2 was not.

i really dont see why a lot of you hate RG so much. sure the story wasnt the best but it was pretty much the same as 90% of the other rpgs out there.

i enjoyed the battle systems, no load times, and, unlike star ocean games, you actually get to get to alot of different planets.

that being said, I would still rather have a Dark Cloud 3 rather than a RG2.

Hopefully WKC satisfies people.

I couldnt care less about critical acclaim. GTA4 'oscar quality story' something something...

And yes, Gotanda did hype IU and it backfired. I don't think he has ever hyped one of his game in the way Hino seems to always do for his, though. tri-Ace is usually REALLY quiet about their games, they never compare it to anything but their own games. Nothing like Hino name-dropping big names just for the sake of hype. I'm sorry but naming the 3 biggest JP franchises at the moment and comparing his game to those is definitely Molyneux levels of hype for me.

Full online co-op would be awesome, though probably wishful thinking.

they really wouldnt need to do a "full" online co-op. they would just need about 10 - 20 missions that up to 4 could play with their custom characters to get special items.

they can always expand it with DLC if they see the mode is popular

That video is funny. The reactions are priceless, though they do that with everything on that show.

They had Will Smith on their show a couple of weeks ago and the guy told Will Smith that Hancock was the best movie he had ever seen in his life. Will was all pshhhhh.

lololol oh wow.

Dark Cloud was great and Layton were great, but Rogue Galaxy is kind've meh, imo.

Haven't started DC2 yet. I need to finish FFXII and RG first. Hopefully WKC will surpass all their previous games in all areas, especially in terms of story.

I have faith in the story. More recent titles have showed they're learning, and the game is called White Knight Story/Chronicles, so it's obvious there's a major focus on that aspect of the game.

Level-5 did Dark Cloud 1 and sorry but the Dark Cloud series is trash. Dark Cloud 1 is one of the worst rpgs I've ever played.

it's like level-5 had a list in hand and thought of the most annoying shit possible to put in a rpg and decided that was a good way to make a game.

Thirst system? check
weapons breaking? check
lame world building aspects? check
awful combat? check
Terrible item crafting system? check
no character customization? check

then they released Dark Cloud 2... Didn't even bother to fix what was wrong with the old game and decided to tacked in a lot more shit without any real coherence when it comes to game design. Bubububu you can control a robot now!

I haven't played Rogue Galaxy, because honestly the first two games they did were such trash that I couldn't even feign interest for this one.

Oh and before you take out the "they did DQ8!" card, they were just code monkeys for that as actual game design/scenario design was by Horii.

Level-5 only good games are the ones they don't design (Layton/DQ), which is completely awesome for such a 'competent studio'.

It's nice that that is they way you feel.
I feel quite a bit differently. To me the "trash" game in the L5 lineup has been DQ8.
While every other game from L5 had flaws, they showed alot of neat ideas and felt new.
DQ8 on the other hand was old shit with a new coat of paint. Boring through and through for a "new" RPG.
Just as you don't get the L5 love, I dont get the L5 hate. They have made plenty of good games, and yet people still hate them. What gives?!

We come from the same place ;) :lol.

I agree, Dark Cloud and Layton were amazing. Rogue Galaxy was missing that last bit of "spark". It had it at some point in time, it just drug it on way too long and in too many directions.

Maybe if this were on 360 some on here would be on board. Well I would rather this one be built for the PS3's strengths. It looks great and it it's as good as the what I've read there should be no problems. I have IU so this is gonna be a huge step up. The first real AAA next gen RPG.

toooooooooooooo premature.
But at least LVL5 has a great backlog, it may really be the 1st one. We had many but so average rpg until now....

If you haven't played RG, why the hate? Based on someone else's opinion? Really now.

Rogue Galaxy is absolute shit, don't forget that.

I'm praying that L5 learned their lesson, because no other rpg this gen has caught my attention (except Kenzan).

I think you're being way too harsh on their games. The negative points you're mentioning are good points for others. And the Combat plus the crafting system weren't terrible. They were very fun and a fine change from the usual stuff. You're being too critical while ignoring Tri-Ace their low points (voice acting, dialouge and more). Maybe you just don't like how Level-5 is getting lots of attention?

While I haven't played my copy of DQVIII yet, I agree with this. I know DQVIII is a good game, but I kind of know how it plays so I'll play it some other time. Dark Cloud on the other hand is something new and a pleasent surprise to me <3 I couldn't wait to try it out.

Lain, why do you disagree with me!? :(

One man's trash is another man's treasure!

I agree with you that they put some annoying shit in their games (RG weapon leveling and synthesis? what were they thinking), but I think that what's annoying aren't their ideas, it's how they execute them.
As such, I forgive them (more than I should probably) and keep hoping they'll finally find the right balance (learing from their past mistakes), putting out a game were everything is well executed.

True, story has never been the forte of L-5 games but what's telling you that this won't be any different in that regard?

What I know is that L-5 RPGs have always been fun, have good gameplay and they cram them with content. Hell, the item creation aspect of all their games alone is one of those thing that keeps me playing and coming for more.

I myself am confident in WKC.

So much L5 hating, from people that didn't even play through their games too....but I guess I'm in no position to comment. I bought IU and played it for 15 mins, it's at a friend's house now. :lol

people said the same when the game was first revealed...it looks much better in motion.

I agree to some extent though, some of the screens dont really do a great job of showcasing the games visuals or impressing... having said that they dont look half as rough as some of the last remnant screens

I think complaints about the graphics will disappear after tgs...I definitely think this game will impress...all level 5 games on ps2 looked excellent
