I think my next gen filter got infected by the NA Kirby filter.
Well I know you are in charge of the OT/chat set-up for E3. Any progress/updates on that front? You rang?
What's up?

I don't think metroid in video formAnyone want to speculate on what Nintendo won't reveal at E3 2012? What cards will they keep up their sleeves? Or do you think Nintendo will throw them all down on the table?
Ignore (and forgive) me if this has already been discussed recently.

price and date
Haha ouch. Well I know you said you were trying to figure out if you could skype multiple people, was just wondering if you ever figured that out.Dude, we're still a little more than 2 months away. I haven't start anything yet.
I still haven't decided on the limit number of people yet, but it's probably not going to be over 10, or we won't be able to understand each other.
I don't even know if I'll participate myself, if I don't have a working mic by then.
We're probably all going to end up on tinychat anyway.
Really?
I might be completely wrong now, but don't most consoles reveal price and date on E3?
Of course not. Look at how many polygons Mario has. It looks like cartoon.

Anyway, I can't wait see Mario Wii U. I really hope they decide to go back to Mario 64's level designs. I'd like to see the first Mario Wii U level be like Bomb-omb Battlefield except far more bigger. Huge. Enormous. Expansive. Like a never ending world full of fun and jumpingness.
That's where the hypothetical "shortcut" (fixed function) part would come into play. It's probably kinda slow when running standard shaders, but could achieve visible results typically requiring a lot more raw horsepower if developers use Nintendo's proprietary extensions.

THQ being on the cusp of closing down is a big reason why they won't put any extra effort into ports, yes.
Me too. Galaxy was great, but I miss the 64/Sunshine style hubworld that leads to a big open level. Galaxy was too linear. I'd love a bigger, crazier Mario 64 in HD. I'd lose my mind if they did that.

Galaxy is my favorite or near favorite game of the PS3/360/Wii generation, but I agree with you, I prefer having a larger more open hub.
Nintendo partners with Green Hills Software for Wii U dev tool
by Tom Curtis [Console/PC, Business]
March 29, 2012
Newsbrief: Nintendo announced on Thursday that it has partnered with tools developer Green Hills Software to provide a development solution to all companies creating games for the upcoming Wii U console.
Developers making Wii U software will receive Green Hills' MULTI integrated development environment, which promises to help teams produce high-performance, efficient code.
"We selected the Green Hills Software solution because it generates highly optimized code, and Green Hills provides excellent global support," said Genyo Takeda, Nintendo's senior managing director of Integrated Research & Design.
that totally deserves a thread. you know what you must do camineet.
Going all out with that middleware.

Its an interesting step but it suggests to me that things arent as cozy in support land. Microsoft and Sony arent paying for all the dev tools for developers on their platforms

We're already almost there.
Nintendo needs every edge they can get.
If they have to kiss kiss kiss up to devs, then they will.
Really?
Wasn't is announced today?

Yeah.. I can totally see Nintendo being Mr Nice Guy and the developers still choosing to date the Dudebro Jocks. Callin' it right now.
Has anyone else thought that Nintendo should buy THQ..? $40m or $50m should be enough to buy the publisher and all studios I reckon. It would give them some much needed Western developers as well as an extra publishing arm in the West. They've got plenty of strong IPs with the likes of Saints Row, Darksiders, Metro, various wrestling IPs and partnerships, Red Faction, UFC and de Blob.
Seems like a no-brainer to me. Buy them, finish the multiplatform titles and then have your studios working on the Wii, DS, 3DS and U exclusively.
Wouldn't Nintendo inherit THQ's debt and licensing woes if they bought them?
Nuh uh. I think it was in this thread and I definitely saw it on other places, I can get links if you want.
The Wii U GPU won't be built around or based on Southern Islands. From everything we know, it's a based on R700 but customized beyond recognition. It's unlike any off-the-shelf AMD GPU.
I talked to bgassassin a few days ago, and I believe we concluded that the chip is probably pretty slow on paper, maybe 300, 400GFLOPS or something, but extended with a couple of shortcuts to accelerate certain common, taxing operations.
Yes, plus there's no guarantee that they could do a full buy out.
It would be better to hire the employees that leave and buy off licenses when they are sold off.
I better add some context to this. I wouldn't call it a conclusion. I would say it's no more than a hypothetical scenario of what would easily be many scenarios IMO. This is based on the Wii U GPU (last I heard) will have some unknown (by me) "Nintendo-designed" feature(s). Those unknowns could be anything. I think my version is slightly different from wsippel's. If these unknowns were fixed and/or programmable functions (no TEVs), they would have silicon dedicated to them. From there the GPU would have something like 400 ALUs. Run-of-the-mill ports would most likely only take advantage of the 400-480 ALUs and in turn would not have much of a difference, if any, between Wii U and PS360 games. Games built from the ground up would incorporate these functions on top of the ALUs allowing for a more noticeable difference. So if this custom GPU were say 600Mhz, just with the ALUs you're looking at 480-576 GFLOPs (2-2.4x Xenos). Games that incorporated the other hardwired functions while using the shaders would make the GPU equivalent to a 1 TFLOP or more GPU.
Again I just want to reiterate this is just a hypothetical of what the GPU might look like if it didn't resemble a "traditional" GPU that had 640-800 ALUs.
