For the writing, the characters, the story, the amazingly detailed world that the show creates, and the wonderfully journey that it all amounts to. The epic journey of One Piece is so wonderfully crafted at every step of the way that it is something that everyone should experience firsthand.

The One Piece anime is a consistently good adaptation until Impel Down when they go at a 1:1 ratio and the pacing goes to shit. Even the filler is enjoyable to some extent.

But then you miss out on G8 ARC,island song,soka king song,cover story's animated,extra great jokes,great character voices,fantastic music, and some parts are done better(arlong park walk,I wanna live,ussop fights,franky vs cp9,zorro vs kuma)

The early chapters aren't as good as the anime adaptation - which is far more emotionally satisfying and entertaining.

But as cosmicblizzard said the pacing does go to shit around impel dawn, and actually recommend new viewers to switch to the manga at that point.

I won't disagree with that. I think the One Piece anime is generally a pretty good adaptation (although the pacing becomes an issue later on), but the manga is definitely the superior version.

What makes the characters and story so interesting? If I'm going to watch something hundreds of episodes long it better be the best thing ever. That clip I watched didn't seem to display any of the things you mentioned, in addition to poor animation.

It isn't, IMO. It's kinda good, for a while. But amazing, beautiful, brilliant, wonderful, fantastic, fabulous, magnificent, heart-wrenching, no. The characters are pretty fucking static which is a big deal for me, considering how long it is. That leads to situations often being overly predictable. And first the first idk how many hundreds of episodes nobody is gonna

apart from in flashbacks, and once you notice that, whatever suspense may come from 8 episode long battles is flattened. And there's the shounen trope of main character getting his ass kicked and then winning in the end because he decides to get serious-er. And the story itself is a goofy adventure at sea, full of eyeroll-worthy moments. Personally that only worked for so long before it just felt too goofy and before I decided I had more than enough of a certain hoofed character who does nothing but cry in a shrill, childlike voice.

Still, it doesn't suck.


^ Just my opinion; I know it's all but a bannable offense to not totally fawn over One Piece, but that's how I feel based off of watching over 300 episodes.
