With The Taken King, are Destiny's problems fixed?

Getting Etheric Light was still pretty grindy, though. Part of the reason I stopped after a week or two.
Not really? I mean maybe if you're trying to get to level 34 in a week you'd have to grind POE over and over, but if you do a few Nightfalls, some PVP, some Iron Banner, and some POE over the course of a month or two, you'll get plenty.

Not that any of this matters since it's all gonna change again in a month.

Clear Prison of Elders on 34, get Etheric Light. What's grindy about that? The other avenues are bonuses (Nightfall rewards, Iron Banner reward)
The thing is you don't even need 3 Etheric lights. Get one armor core and one Etheric light. Use light to level up one piece of old gear. Use armor core to get full light level gear. Congrats, you're 2/3 of the way to 34. Wait a week and repeat or try for a 33, 34 (2x) prison of elders 35 Carry. I believe trial gear is max light level too. You could get carried through that win some armor then purchase/upgrade your other armor and you're 34 in less than a week.

The fact that Prison of Elders wasn't a lot of fun, at least for me. I've done Skolas once, and it's an experience I'll gladly never repeat in my life. The 28 and 32 were okay, but the bullshit in 34/35 just didn't feel worth it.

I see your point, though.

Yeah, I guess. I loved the idea of Etheric Light in theory, but as a mainly PvE guy having it only be regularly obtainable from PoE 34/35 just killed my interest in levelling.

In-game LFG tools would be nice but Destiny GAF and r/fireteams have always worked for me on those rare times my Raid group wasn't playing.

I've never really had much problems with matchmaking in game for strikes and weeklies. If I get a shit group, I just quit and try again.

I think raid matchmaking is a workable possibility but Bungie has shown zero interest in it and I don't expect that to change.

I lurk from time to time but playing on PS3, so the posts are few and far between. :( love the OTs and Hawkian's encyclopedic posts near launch kept me in the game for months after I might have quit!

Re: Leaving last gen behind, I thought it was almost assured that whatever Destiny 2 happens to be in Year 3 would be PS4/Xbone only. Figure I might own a PS4 by that time. :/

Well feel free to post from time to time!

Or 3 NFs, 3 Etherics like a friend of mine on HoW day 1.

._.

. I've never once had an issue with the weekly.

So you agree the grind still exists.

You don't play much then.

2 weeks ago I matchmade with 2 idiots that refused to use anything other than use "The crappy last word" (their words) on a burn modifier. A 10 min run took an hour.

The last 3 28 PoEs people just wanted to be carried, blew them selves up with rockets and hid. I don't matchmake now... But my friends list has gone from 9 to 60.

I'm glad matchmaking isnt in high level content and its a better game without it.

The "grind" is now 20% of what it used to be. Guns and armour take to time to level, its not a problem anymore.

For people who were turned off by the "grindy" nature of vanilla destiny, yes, they've changed a lot of things and the grind isn't NEARLY as bad as it was.

As far as TTK being a fix, well...the main issue I have with the game is the way they've handled (or ignored) gathering a group for end game stuff. I would love some sort of in-game method of getting a group together other than sending messages to strangers in the tower or sending messages to every friend that's online playing the game. Not necessarily an in-game LFG system, although that would be awesome, but even just a way to notify all my friends playing the game that I'd like to do whatever.

And please don't tell me about DestinyGaf because yes I'm aware of it and it's not the quick and efficient remedy many of you proclaim it to be.

Pretty much this. Etheric Light is pretty plentiful. Hell I'd love to be able to trade it in for weapon parts.

For me, yes. I can never seem to get to the top level in this game. The RNG just never grants me the armor/guns I need. So using XP to get to 40 will be a huge bonus for me.

But...

I'm curious as to how they are going to change the Vault of Glass and Crota's End to make them worthwhile for level 30s and up. Because, as soon as The Taken King drops, those legendaries are going to be obsolete. They'll need to add some incentive to go back into the older raids.

It seems like a lot of Destiny's faults have been fixed, I guess we shall find out when it releases :)
I don't know I guess it's subjective. It received mixed reviews in the press but everybody I know who owns it was in love with it. I think this is a case where the Internet bubble doesn't reflect consumers at large. I'm glad they are making a solid effort to address criticism though. Good on them

We'll see. It won't obviously won't make the game what it could've been, but it can potentially fix the problems the game it is now has.

I'm interested in the new story structure and other changes to the launch game content. RIP Dinklebot.

Most of the people I know have dropped it because they feel so burned by it. And burned out from it.

i was just thinking of a VoG with matchmade people and no mics (lets be real nobody talks with strangers) ,and nobody has an idea how to do it. how long do you think they would take to clear it?

you actually don't need to do the PoE, like ever.
but it's certainly easier.

So here is the thing about Etheric light, you are given more options if you are like MP. Such as the ability to purchase one in iron banner after a couple of ranks or Trials of Osiris. If you can find a good group then nightfall and you might get one random. But the fastest option is still PoE 34 where you are given an armor core.

Like another said, for people who are mainly PvE or who do not like random chances then the MP options are basically not the greatest. but you do have a point.

So since you have a group that can always play no one else should have matchmaking. That's brilliant.

What turned you off? Maybe I'm alone in this, but I really like PoE.
The guy uses his own personal anecdote against matchmaking, yet I can use my own by saying everyone I've used the external lfg site I finished whatever end game content I was attempting. Matchmaking would be bad, but a way to post your group in game or actually chat in social spaces and then hand pick your team members would be great!

And I'm with you, POE may have weak rewards but I really enjoy the encounters especially the bosses that all have different mechanics to them opposed to shoot.

No. Only the people that want to do it go. The casuals that would drop as soon as something goes wrong do not go.

Again, you don't play. An analogy:

Before cellphones, people set up appointments and were there in time or they would cancel ahead of time. Now? You get a call 5 minutes before the time from the person that won't go because fuck you, they'd rather be lazy than care for your wasted time.

Instant communication culture killed that. Add MM, and out will be like that. People just dropping EVEN with a penalty because they don't give a shit.

At least now you don't find them in the websites.

Same with RL before penalty. You think the quitters still play? Most likely they just moved on.

i dont think your actually being serious but ill try to tackle these weird ass analogies you keep coming up with

See, if you want to piss off your doctor and lose him/her, keep canceling appointments. Keep fucking around with the doctor's time. See how long that's going to work out. and if you really liked that doctor but keep bailing on him/her? Well then youre about to lose your favorite doctor. So, yes, there are penalties for acting like an idiot in real life.

in regards to quitters no longer playing ranked in RL: Good. Isnt that what you want, bad players being weeded out and only good players using MM in the end? Wouldn't that be the perfect ending to all of this?

also, i dont play a lot of things, like professional basketball. Does that mean i'm not qualified to criticize that, too? cmon now.

You've chosen a weird hill to die on. Go on, i'm waiting for your next analogy, it can't get any more silly than the last one.

I wish Destiny would just go the Diablo 3 route and admit they messed up with Destiny 1 and rework the entire game to be constantly rewarding to the user. They will never do this (or Activision would never allow it for $ purposes) because if people actually get what they want (ie. Doing insane damage and legendary drops galore like in D3 now) people will eventually move away from the game after they feel satisfied.

Ever since Destiny came out, I've been turned off from the game. There were reports that it was overly repetitive, grindy, the leveling system was weird, getting loot was frustrating, and other things I forget. But lately, I have been hearing lots of positive things about what The Taken King (and a new patch) will bring to Destiny. It seems the leveling system will now be not weird and the game's missions won't be as tedious or repetitive.

Is this all true? For the people who were turned off by the game since its release, will The Taken King change our opinion of the game? Will we be able to enjoy it? Or should I wait for Destiny 2?

How about this? Why don't you tell us what problems you specifically had with Destiny, and those of us that have stayed in the know will tell you what has or has not changed about it?

People going out of their way to look for others (who can still gear check you before letting you continue) via a website is still going to yield better results than kids all over the world who can simply click one button to start MM in-game.
Was not suggesting matchmaking though, read again

I was thinking about this too. Gorgons maze and the jumping puzzle would be unbearable.

I have tried that like 3 times with no luck. Probably just bad timing on my part with the IB last week. And bad timing before that being super early in the morning or something.

BUT I WILL TRY AGAIN SOON!
Yeah, anytime IB is up, the trains take most players out of the station. Your best times for running Raids are during the reset (Tuesday) and on the weekends. Also look for people who actively post at the beginning of the week for planned Raid runs. You can always join those groups and run it at that scheduled time.

hours upon hours or they'd give up before beating Templar (if we're talking hard). I mean how do you even call out oracles if no one has a mic? Lol that's a clusterfuck and they have to beat the conflux part first. Do they even know about the high rise/wipe technique? To many variables.

Why always jump to the worst possible outcome? Most of the randoms I've seen have a mic and would use it to communicate.

Which is why I am going to continue my hiatus for another month, and wait a week or two for impressions to shake out.

Everyone was gung-ho and excited for House but it turns out that it really didn't make the game that much better.

Hopefully this expansion truly does add more meat to the bones and changes more for the positive.

I looked it up the other day, I put 433 hours, 4 characters, in to Destiny from November through May. It was fun, played all of that with my wife co-op, but the game definitely needs something. Dark Below and House should have added a new planet/patrol zone area, something you could actually visit without having to replay the missions, much like it appears TTK is doing. I think it would have gone a lot farther in players eyes

Not spending a single penny on Destiny DLC until they rectify the UK pricing situation, something which I don't believe Bungie give two shits about.

There will always be issues, but that goes for any games that updates often. I honestly think the hand cannon will be nerfed too much (lowered ammo count and shorter damage falloff) rendering it undesirable.

I play a shit ton of PVP, got to level 5 in IB, and never once seen an etheric light drop for anyone.

SimplyGames has it for £35 pounds that's the one with everything.

We get far more deals on games than they do in the states.

PS pricing by a game company? that's a publishers job.

Getting to level 5 in IB allows you to buy 2 EL. Thats half the job right there.

Do 1 PoE 34 and you aonly need 1 more for level 35.

Seriously, destiny has a lot of issues but grinding to level up is not one of them anymore.

Two issues:

1. what bungie SAYS and what bungie DOES do not always sync up. They said things about TDB and HoW that really ended up being fairly wrong, especially about the POE strike. So until Taken king is out and people have a chance to evaluate I'd take what they say with a grain of salt.

2. Taken King may be great, but whats next? Even under the most optimistic person its probably 3 months worth of content for the average player. Is there another DLC planned? Paid or free? Whats included? Or is everyone on the team going to fuck off onto Destiny 2 which won't release until Sept 2016?

Now #2 isn't that big a deal if #1 is very good, after all $40 (or $60 for the whole thing) is pretty good if you get a game that really engages you for 3-4 months and then you only login once in a while for another six months until the next DLC/game. But HoW lasted only 3 weeks or so for me before it became a empty game, and really out of that I got maybe 10-15 hours of what I'd consider "quality" gaming.

Still waiting for that Dota 2 counter argument.

bro, im waiting for a thousand counters from you.

Keep on trucking with your selective answering, it's gotta suck to not be able to defend a flawed position.
Why should I bother if you don't play the game anyway?

Oh, we're doing this again? I already replied to that. I've replied to all of it.

take your Ls or have something substantial and logical to add. deflecting is a poor look

I hope they add MM for raids and i want to watch a stream of randoms trying to complete it.

make it mic only. Every console comes with a mic these days. Not that people have to use them, but it will help in regards to concerns about no communication.

optional MM, Mic only, penalties implemented. Who says no?

i played destiny for almost 1000h and never met a single random guy with mics on.
plus not everyone speaks english. you would need to separate MM by language too.

raids without communications are almost impossible.

Getting to level 5 in IB allows you to buy 2 Etheric Lights...
I think he means as rewards after the match.

Sorry, but I have to reply from my phone, so can't write that much.

You don't play, but you are suggesting penalties and forcing people. The 360 had mics for Halo. Did most people use them? Not for random matchmaking.

You think forcing and threatening people would encourage them to play? They would just not play because there would be a penalty if something happened to them.

People are already forced to go to a website to get a group. So the solution is forcing them to stay?

Mics only? That works only if people talk. They don't. That is what your don't get. Mics are the only communication method and it does not work already with randoms.

This is not RL. This is not Dota 2. Forcing people with penalties does not work, which is why I keep bringing the Dota 2 thing: People still leave games even with threats of temporary bans. It's not like they can't just play something else, can they?

Not for me.
The game is still way too small/unvaried. Too few enemy types, too samey maps and reused dungeons/areas. The game has fundamental problems in its very core.
The shooting is solid though.
How many enemy types do you need?
How many fps gave you 4 different enemy types in the first game.

I remember fighting the covenant and the fallen a lot for like 3 games straight... That's only 2 enemy types

First VoG hard I did only and another guy communicated but other randoms listened. Took us about 1,5 hours to complete. It's possible as long as randoms ain't total dumbdumbs ;)

Was not suggesting matchmaking though, read again
No I got it.. I was using our discussion to comment on the general theme of the thread. re; your suggestion. An LFG board type thing has been suggested many times, and while it might be better than MM, it limits you to such a small pool of players whereas lfg.com/net doesn't. Seems like a gimped version of what's already available.

i stop playing at level 27, after the release of the first DLC
it was kinda imposible to me get to level 30

i wonder if will be different this time
