Xbox Fitness - Getting GAF off its butt

Be sure to put your workout results on public so people can keep track of your progress. That is if you want to, but it's nice to see how people are doing, makes for good motivation =)

I'm going to give this a go tomorrow, been steadily putting on weight recently. Need to fight off the impending doom that is the holiday season :P

I have to find a place to put Kinect where it can read my whole body. It keeps telling me to move away from the Camera. T_T

My 3rd workout I swear to god these things are making me find muscles that I didn't know existed

I watched the crew at Giant Bomb play this on their livestream and it damn near sold me on an Xbox One. I'm mad jelly of you guys. P90x I completed and having Kinect track how well (or badly) you're doing moves looks great.

As for the diet, it didn't look like they were providing you with any diet information via Xbox, though I could be wrong. I don't have one. But I know in Insanity and P90x they constantly mention proper diet and even proper rest/recovery. The DVDs programs come with cookbook and even a meal plan for the entire duration of the program. For anyone new to getting in shape, a better diet is likely to follow you once you get in the groove of fitness. After about a month of constant exercise I always craved fresh vegetables and lean protein. It's like my body already knew what to do.

I'm having a hard time navigating the Fitness UI and coming up with a good plan. I thought there would be some kind of weekly work out plans with different videos for every day, or at least something with tiers of videos. All I'm finding is a mess of different videos with no real organization.

Can anyone give me insight on how to come up with a good rotation? My problem is, since I'm coming straight off the couch (mostly), if I use the same videos and work the same group of muscles, I'll have to wait too long to long in-between exercises.

Ideally, I would work one group of muscles one day, then focus on another the next while those heal, etc. As it stands now, I did one of the 10-Minute Beach Body videos on Saturday and my muscles are too sore to start again until hopefully tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to slowly shaping up, but can anyone share their strategies on workout plans through the Xbox Fitness catalog?

Was supposed to give this a shot today but, well, you know how that goes. Anyways, posting now to hold myself accountable

Did they say anything about the remaining p90x routines that are not available?
This is probably my biggest reason for getting the system so hopefully it shows up sooner rather than later.

Did my third round of the beachbody cardio. Big improvement today! I'll keep at it for another week at least since it wipes me out pretty good. 20 minute one is next on the list =)

Did my first insanity workout after not working out for 2 months. 101k score and 4 stars.

Anyone not convinced this is the future of working out at home is a luddite to a T.

I tried it tonight and rough as it is, it's a brilliant idea. I don't have the ideal space for Kinect (6.5' from Kinect to couch) but it mostly kept up and fairly graded me. The worst part is that it lost me a few times when I was on the floor. One time I blamed the cat, one time I blamed the dog, and one time there was no good reason.

I agree that they need to so much more to set you up with various plans and recommend schedules. Smart glass would be a great companion to do this and to keep track of all of your measurements.

Turning exercise into a game with social achievements is brilliant. Now I just hope that they flesh it out more.

Sucks that they only have limited circuits for insanity and P90 :/. I like having more variety having gone through longer term cycles with those.

Best of luck to all you beginners! I lost 30 pounds last year doing insanity, running, and eating better. And 25 of those pounds are still off 1.5 years later. It's very, very doable to make the life changes. Just take your time and build up your stamina.

When sending a friend request, just mention you're from NeoGAF. Otherwise, I will be really confused and probably not respond at all.

Editted to add:

Last year, I lost 30 lbs with a combination of dieting, running, and the UFC Training "game" for Xbox 360 / Kinect. Some of these Kinect "games" can really beat you . . .

I did end up quitting the UFC program after awhile though because it was buggy and had issues with body detection from time to time. I'm hoping the new Kinect doesn't have these issues.

I'll add some of you guys later. Just tried it out and it rocks!

I really wish gyms had these set up. It is difficult doing this on the 2nd floor of an apartment.

I think I just had a good business idea there!

Any good workout has a plan. Usually rotation of muscle groups and rest days. I know for a fact Insanity, P90x, and the Tracy Anderson Method has those built in. From what I gather all the videos aren't available which is entirely detrimental to the entire routine. If you go to Beach Body's website they list calendars for P90x and Insanity. Or just google their workout sheets

Only two P90X videos (Plyo X, Shoulders & Arms)
Only one Insanity video (Plyo cardio circuit)
No Focus T25

More of a sample than a fully featured product imo.
Still plenty of good free content here, but don't expect to be following a P90X or Insanity two month calendar program.

Ah that sucks, been looking forward to this.
Hope they add the real deal though, with a schedule and all.

Did Insanity 2 times and I know how repetitive it can get to the end but with Xbox Fitness/Highscores/Challenges I think it will be much more fun

So I woke up and tried one of the 10 Minute Trainer routines. Seems pretty nice and I will definitely try and keep it up. Kinect seems to work really well and I can't wait until someone releases a built-from-the-ground-up exercise game.

Somebody needs to make it happen sooner rather than later.

Feel free to add me, GT is BiqMara

Is there any way to sort the offerings in some comprehensive way?
My wife wants to do this regularly and is confused, how she should go about it.

I'm glad to hear more people are checking this out! I too was bummed about the limited P90X selection, but realistically, a lot people would not be able to do pull-ups within view of the Kinect anyway, which knocks out several of the workouts. Core Synergistics should be on there though.

I've moved over to using this instead of Wii Fit U at this point. I feel like I'm getting a better workout doing my (currently) 20 minutes daily as two of the 10-minute routines than I was with Wii Fit. And let me tell you, for me doing two of them in a row is no joke.

But P90x works because you're doing a rotation of different videos almost every day. Not having them there undermines its effectiveness and is a disservice to the product.

Ah, thanks for the tips. Does anyone know if it's confirmed that more videos will be added in December or is this all we're getting? Kind of a bummer that it's just a little sampler platter, but I guess it's to be expected. I'm still excited about the possibilities, though.

So today marks my three weeks doing a workout once a day. I tried the Insanity Cardio workout and made it halfway through. That may not sound like a lot for some, but for me, currently being in the worst shape I've ever been in, that's a feat.

I'm just nearing the end of P90X (week 11) and tried the Shoulders and Arms routine. It was better than I expected in tracking everything but for 5 star rating rather than doing the normal 8-12 reps of a heavy weight like normal, it logs for the entire time they're doing the exercise so I had to drop down to a couple of dumbbells smaller to finish all the reps (a lot!).

It's a shame that the entire Insanity workout (or other full workouts for that matter) isn't on there because I've done it a couple of times and would have loved to do it again with kinect.

Yeah, that's to bad, only a couple of those..

I need GAF help. I was going to begin P90X on the Xbox One this AM and add some other exercises to my existing exercise plan. When starting up the app it ask for sex, DoB, etc. For some reason when I put in the month my cursor when to the Next or Done button. The app assumes I above 65 and throws will throw off my calorie and challenge points. I immediately backed out and come back in. Still the same. Can not get back to that point in the setup. I even deleted the app and reinstalled. What can I do?

You can change all that in the My Exercise Attributes section in Settings.

I got my first 5 star yesterday on Insanity Plyo. Ive actually already completed the Insanity program about a week ago and moved on to Insanity Asylum. So I enjoy doing the one on Xbox Fitness to change things up.

I have noticed that its hard to get all the moves within the camera's field of view. When I do level 1 drills, sometimes it stops tracking me, but its probably because of how I set the camera up.

Are people finding the camera works better if its higher? or farther back? or closer? Whats the best set up?

..bummed.. many of them are incomplete, how am I supposed to do my training schedule, the P90X prompts to purchase de DVDs :(

other prompts to purchase the whole program through Xbox, is this just a kind of trial ?

I already legally own the full P90x2 series but I wold rather use it with kinect integration

Dude, just keep it up. Dont worry if you cant finish it.

But, I wouldnt just give up once youre tired. You obviously know your limits, but the best solution is to pause, take a few minutes, then get back in there.

Bottom line, dont be afraid to pause. Its not something to be ashamed of. Pause it, get your wind back, and attack the last half of the workout.

Then take a cold ass shower and youll feel amazing.

For me this is the first Xbone killer app. Kinect really shine here and the achievements just add more will to do everything.
