Not feeling either of the 2 new XBLA games to be honest.
Out of the two I had been keeping a hopeful eye on Raskulls but in the end it's a weird hybrid that doesn't scratch any particular itch. Part platformer, part racer and part puzzler, it barely reaches mediocre in any of those categories. Out of the game types on offer I most enjoyed the 'reach the end before running out of shots' and 'don't let your boost run out' modes, but the racing seems to be the meat and it's really unsatisfying. It's too frantically paced to allow any strategy other than run, spam shoot and hope for the best. The weapons seemed really weedy too and made next to no difference to the outcome. And the straight up platformer levels are just boring. Shame because I found it quite funny and if the game had even just been adequate I probably would have bought it but it's too flimsy and the video at the end showed nothing to make me think the rest of the game would be different.
Microbots bored me to the point where I didn't even finish the trial. Granted, I'm no twin-stick shooter expert, buying only Everyday Shooter and the Geometry Wars series in recent memory, but I found this woolly to control and aim and completely lacking in anything exciting or interesting.
At least IloMilo next week is a genuinely great entry in the XBLA library
