Xbox One Titanfall Special Edition Bundle announced. $499 at select retailers

Hold on. Some of you people actually thought the Xbox One wouldn't get a price drop within 2 years of release?

A ton of people were calling a price drop within a few months before this thing was even released.

While this is basically a $60 price drop for those who were going to buy Titanfall anyway, won't it look weird when stores are selling an Xbox One without a game for the same price as one with a game?

That was happening throughout the entire history of the previous generation. Nothing new.

You can expect more pack ins this fall. Microsoft will be bundling for sure. Maybe two games per console but I expect a variety of official bundle packages to cover the consumer range. I'd say Forza 5 is a safe bet.

Most definitely, curious what they'll pack in, Forza is a sure bet. This thread title should have put SHOCKING in it.

Will Titanfall even be a major system seller when it's on PC and 360?

I know a lot of people with PS4s that have gaming PCs as well that they built towards the end of last generation.

Also I can't see current 360 owners rushing out to buy a One for Titanfall when they can get it on their 360.

If MS doesn't at least come close to PS4 numbers in March (<10k) the XB1 is in trouble.

Ya.. it's really in trouble selling more X1's than 360s in the same time period so far.

And if the PS4 loses to X1 in that sales numbers is that doom and gloom for the more powerful less expensive console?

Nahh.. I don't think so. Just like MS isn't in trouble right now.

Will Titanfall even be a major system seller when it's on PC and 360?
Yes.. it's going to sell great on all of them. And then we can bust out the MS family numbers. :D

It's a good idea, they need to do something to push hardware sales. Respect for early adopters can't paralyze the business.

Well, we'll see soon enough how many units it will move. And you're correct that business decisions can't be based solely on appeasing one segment of the consumer base. However, MS needs take a long, hard look at what they've done to their brand image over the last year.

While generous, my thoughts are

1) Doesnt change a thing. If you wanted an xb1 because of titanfall, you either bought one already or would have bought one regardless, and MS basically just gave money away here. People dont sit on the fence over 50 to 60 bucks.

2) Related to #1...how this would sway a PS4 leaning buyer I have no idea.

3) Similarly, if you just planned on getting this on 360, I dont see how this adds incentive to fork out the extra 400 bucks.

Its generous, but reeks of worry. I also wonder if they have market research thats telling them TF is going to underperform on xb1? Probably not, its tin foil hat stuff, but it crossed my mind.

They're going to have to do a lot more than that to get me to buy a One. With that said, I'll still just pick Titanfall up on the 360 assuming that it plays well on the 360.

Yeah, everyone saw this a mile away. Once it was made exclusive, it was gonna be a pack in.

Everyone except Microsoft, apparently, who seems to have cobbled this thing together at the absolute last moment.

Not coming packed with the Titanfall branded controller is absolutely ridiculous, even if they're trying to keep the price down.

Call of Duty:Ghost and Battlefield 4 were THE best selling games on Xbox One and PS4, and honestly, the biggest system sellers on PS4 and Xbox One. Those games we're on Xbox 360 and PS3, yet people flocked to them on Xbox One/PS4. It's going to be the same with Titanfall. People have the desire to play the newest games on the newest systems.

Titanfall is going to move a lot a units, I don't see why there's always such a need to "discredit" the game and it's ability to sell consoles.

It's an easy way to repackage existing stock.

While they were the best selling games on Xbox One and PS4, they still sold more copies on 360 and PS3.

That was my first thought. Don't they have to do a real price drop on the non-bundled consoles?

Nahh.. I don't think so. Just like MS isn't in trouble right now.

MS packing their Killer App game with the system at no additional cost (essentially makeing it a $60 price cut) would suggest that they do not share your optimistic appraisal of the situation.

I think they will see more sales on the 360/PC side. Alot of people will still be wary of shelling out 500 bucks just play one game if they have a 360 or PC already.

No offense, and I say this as someone who owns a gaming laptop, I think the number of people with a gaming PC compared to average joe console gamer, at least in NA, can be over exaggerated. This isn't Diablo or The Sims. This is a game heavily marketed and targeted at the console crowd.

Also, as far as people just playing it for the 360, people want new shiny things for their new shiny toys. There were a lot of people who bought Xbox One's and PS4's just for CoD: Ghosts, perhaps the least graphically impressive console launch game in recent memory. The 360 version is also delayed. The "day one" people who are going to buy Titanfall or are going to line up for it aren't going to wait.

Granted, I'll give you that if you own a PC already there's really no point in paying $500 just to play Titanfall, but I suspect the number of people that fall into that category is smaller than you think compared to the overall consumer market.

I wouldn't say people bought PS4s and Ones because COD and BF4 came out for them. They were games that came out when the new consoles came out. The consoles would have sold out regardless.

Not everyone can afford to spend $500 or $400. That's the biggest problem with the Xbox One and PS4 currently. The price is expensive and a huge barrier for most people.

Exactly. Which is why, at the end of the day, the general public will still see $500. It'll move systems, but it won't move as much as people think it will. They would have had better luck just doing an official $50 price drop.

To give you some perspective, right now, the XB1 version is #6 on the Amazon top 100 for video games. The 360 version isn't even on the list.

What happened to MS. My experience with them with the 360 was much different than this. Bought my console on day one RROD 18 months in and even though the warranty was over they replaced it free of charge then again 18 months after that. They seemed to want to take care of the hardcore.

Now they are going all bargain bin screwing their early adopters. I've decided my Xbone will only run limited exclusives. If ms is going to screw me I won't support their platform. I'll just buy everything I can on the ps4. Sony has never done me wrong in TVs or games.

It is a bit soon, admittedly, but I've also been enjoying my XB1 and my PS4 for months now. Had I waited for an XB1, I wouldn't have played it this whole time (and Killer Instinct is awesome).

Sooooooooooooo.....

People getting mad at this are funny and I snicker at them.
You really wouldn't be laughing if you were the one out of sixty dollars. Apple did the same thing with the iPhone in 2007 and gave everybody a $200 gift card to shut everybody up. I hope Microsoft will do the same thing in this case for sixty bucks.

I feel like this price cut might have made a difference but for the fact that, you know, the X1's competition is still markedly more powerful and $100 cheaper. Titanfall is fun enough, but it's just the first game in an eventual multiplat franchise, and in the meantime, a whole lot of gamers also have access to either a 360 or a PC.

Yeah that part is ridiculous, they usually do this for COD games right? I think the writing was on the wall when compared to ps4 sales, they need momentum to keep sales close. There has been a momentum shift to playstation from xbox. People I knew who would never buy a ps3 are all buying a ps4, kinda strange to see lool. MS needs to get those people back, badly.

I own both the PS4 and Xbox One, I had Battlefield 4 on XBOne, and was sorely disappointed at that shit show, and I'd heard rumbles of the bundle when it was 'leaked' a couple weeks ago.

But My point above still stands, Nintendo gave early adopters a 10% discount on digital download titles if you got the Deluxe sku, why does nothing similar exist for people who had enough forethought to get "Day One" editions, or otherwise? In reality the only benefit of that version is an achievement and an extra decal on your controller.

I'm bitter, sure, if this was more than 4 months post-launch, I'd be less upset, but it's just silly at how soon they 'ignore' those who 'helped' them not look even worse in the PS4's sales shadow.

Is this the first time you have ever bought a product at launch? I hate to break it to you,but almost everything you own can now be purchased for less, or with some other promotion.

Well put, If MS expects TF to for them what Sonic did for Sega, they are in for some hurt.

Might have got it if it were an actual LE console, but if TF is good then I'll just get it on the PC, probably for dirt cheap months later...

We've known and speculated that this was going to happen for a while now. TitanFall. It's the game everyone wants. Pack it in and sell an X1 instead of a 360 version of the game.

They're losing in sales and want to catch up a bit. What's the problem? How is this a loss for the consumer? Ha ha ha.. some of you are too much with every move they do is the wrong move. This is a good thing. It shows MS is still learning their lessons.

I have no idea how packing in a GREAT game like TitanFall is a bad thing now for the consumer. Oh poor me for buying an X1 on launch and paying more. Ha ha.. my fun isn't diminished at all by that. This is a great thing. They are still trying to win the consumers heart.

But of course hey.. packing in and incredible game like TitanFall is a bad thing now. That sucks! Getting a game with a console! Who cares if it looks like MS is hitting a "panic" button. This is good for all the consumers.

Your analysis is flawed. 60 dollars matters.

Just like the 100 dollar price difference between the consoles matters.

$400 vs $500 matters.

$400 vs $500 + free game is cloudy.

$400 vs $450 would probably do more for sales. Why? Because not everyone may want Titanfall, but they do want to save money.

My thoughts after absorbing this, having just bought my One 32 days ago and as an eleven-year LIVE member:

I think MS should now, without any doubt offer the One's digital download version of Titanfall at a substantially discounted price (say, $19.99) if not free to One owners. If they're giving it away for free to people buying One's now and I think some recognition for those who already bought a One in the launch window shouldn't be left hanging. Limit it to being available for the month of March or through April. Something like that.

When Apple dropped the price of the original iPhone 3 months after the iPhone's launch in the summer of 2007, they gave every early adopter a ~$100 Apple credit. When Nintendo dropped the price of the 3DS, early adopters were given free games to compensate.

You do have to do something here, Microsoft. It's poor form not to. Don't make your most dedicated salty towards you. If you want to boost PR and customer satisfaction, that's what you'll do.

It's not even the price of the game so much as it is the principle of the matter. I wipe my ass with $60 these days. See, many of us bought a One knowing the library was limited right now, but felt there was enough to tide us over until Titans were falling. You know, like how every early adopter does with almost every system. I think most expected some sort of good bundle or price cut around or after E3...certainly by Fall 2014...but E3 is 3 months from now and we would have understood. But moving on price cuts while still in the launch window...and including the one game everyone bought a One in anticipation of for free? Again, it's the principle of the matter. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and there aren't many things MS has done in my 11 years of LIVE membership and Xbox gaming to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

...

If not that, they should consider some sort of special program offering special discounts for that special core of gamers who bought a One before March, 2014. Something like the WiiU's Deluxe program.

So yea, something. Anything. But I need MS to respond with a bit of good will here for all early adopters.

11-year live member here too, and there is no way in hell that they will do this.

MS already paid a fuckload to EA to make Titanfall a Bone exclusive. EA is already going to miss out on some full price sales with this bundle. Do you really think they'd be on board with missing out on full price sales to damn near every other XBOne owner across the board?

Keep dreaming-visioning.

Microsoft has made it crystal clear for quite some time now that they have absolutely no problem shitting on their hardcore base.

110% agree with you here. Even if they don't give us the game for FREE (the early adopters), heavily discount that shit so I don't feel salty and rage sell your console.

Considering they already gave the EU a free pack-in back in November, I don't see current owners get pissed off by the bundle. People who want the "xbone" to fail may be bothered by this.

I hope it sells very very well!

I'm bothered by it. I could have waited 3 months and gotten Titanfall for free?

Unlike the UK, there's no price cut, and this is a special bundle so there will be limited supply for it, in other words it's not the normal SKU.

Everyone should have expected a titanfall bundle, so this fuss is unwarranted imo.

I'm bothered by it. I could have waited 3 months and gotten Titanfall for free?

Yep. It's not that they're including a game. It's that they're including this game.

The game that's supposed to hold down the first half of the year for One owners. The game with all the E3 awards hanging from banners in its developers offices.

If this was a Dead Rising 3 / Forza / KI / Lego Marvel / whateverthefuck game bundle, nobody would give a shit. But this game? It's the game we wanted, bros. I don't think anyone really anticipated a price drop *already* or its inclusion for free. IDK.

What was the last console that had a price drop 3 months after launch and its best GoTY contender packed in for free despite solid sales? Maybe there's precedent for this that should curve my frustration. Original Xbox, perhaps?

Maybe the sales figures are more grim than anyone realizes. IDK.

This hurts the early adopters but it's a good move overall. I'm amazed that Microsoft acted so quickly. I want one.

My thoughts after absorbing this, having just bought my One 32 days ago and as an eleven-year LIVE member:

I am also an eleven-year Xbox LIVE member. I got in on the very first day it was available for the Xbox. That's how I got my four-letter Xbox gamertag.

I'm sorry the timing of your purchase was so ... unfortunate. It's still early in the day, maybe Microsoft will announce some sort of deal for the early adaptors in the interest of keeping goodwill with their core customers.
